Welcome back

It is good to see everyone back for more this year! The camp was put-up in record time and we even managed to swim on the first day!

Spirits were running high during the campfire as the avalanche of jokes, riddles and songs kept popping-up. Volchata and Ptenchiki started their inter patrol competitions on an outrageously high note as they kept earning points for their patrols with every campfire presentation.

The day was a hot one but luckily (or unluckily) for us, the rest of the week should be cooler with a lot of rain. So we need to brace ourselves and dig trenches around the precious tents!

This year is also very special because we have ultimate comparison between scouts and guides in terms of their skills and scout lore. They are no longer separated into several patrols each and their best minds are all in the same place. Whatever the outcome of this years’ competitions - it will forever prove who is better!

Last night at camp fire, we had a speaker who prised Russian language and named severla very important historical figures. Pushkin was one of them, and our newspaper could not pass-up an opportunity to write an article in response.

Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin was a Russian author of the Romantic era who is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature. Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems and plays, creating a style of storytelling —

travel or publish at will, he wrote his most famous play, the drama Boris Godunov, but could not publish it until years later. His novel in verse, Eugene Onegin, was published serially from 1825 to 1832.

Pushkin and his wife Natalya Goncharova, whom he married in 1831, later became regulars of court society. In 1837, Pushkin has had a duel with a man named Georges d’Anthès over an incident at a ball, and was mortally wounded and died two days later at the age of 37.

What goes bump in the night.

Last night was the inaugural night patrol for this year started by our semi fearless swallows patrol. Well mabye a little afeared.

So a few may have cried for their teddy bears and requested a bigger torch, but thats nothing to worry about in the great scheme of things.

Pack of Wolves

problem, which leads to two possible conclusions, either Ptenchiki can hide their smarts or they don’t have them in the first place.

Judging from the level of quizes they ask during campfires, this newspaper advises readers to draw their own conclusions.

DUTY PATROL RETRIEVERCamp Wannawong needs an expert tracker to look for lost Duty Patrol members during their night patrol maneuvers. (Precedents involve two girls hiding behind a tree away from view) Pay is poor. Skills must include knowledge in how to use a torch and being able to smell fear from 20 metres away. SWIMMING SUPERVISORScout instructors like swimming too so they need a competent swimming supervisor while they are in the water themselves. Being able to swim is a must! Are Strawberries - berries?

Yep, strawberries are red, sweet and juicy. But, nope, technically, strawberries aren’t berries at all. They’re “aggregate fruits”: they form from a flower that has many ovaries.

To explain: the ovary is the part of a flower that ripens into a fruit. While some flowers have one ovary, other flowers, like the strawberry flower, have many.
