A Request for Help with Our Atrium
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Atrium work with cards and flyers with religious images. In this busy world, we appreciate
your time in collecting and donating these items. We have been very blessed with an abundance of materials, especially saint images, so we will not be collecting any additional saint cards. If you have images of the Holy Family, Mary, Joseph or Jesus we will continue to take these images for use in our Atrium. Our Atrium creation team will be working to develop materials for our new Atrium on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 1:00 pm. If you are interested in helping please contact Ms. Karen at [email protected] or call and leave your name and contact information at the Parish Office at 845-855-5488. If you cannot join us to help with the creation of materials, please keep our work in your prayers! The guidance of the Holy Spirit is so crucial to our work! You’ll be hearing more about our program soon, but in the meantime watch for other ways you can contribute to the development of our Atrium. This is such important work that will serve the young children of our parish and lead them closer to God.
God bless you for helping in whatever way you can!

Continued from last week...Lent is upon us soon enough, believe it or not! Ash Wednesday this year is February 26, one month away. During Lent, I’m happy to announce that we will be having a parish mission presented by Fr. Tom Sullivan, CPM. Fr. Sullivan is a Father of Mercy based out of Kentucky. From what I understand, he was here before in 2015. He is happy to return and off er a mission once again. The mission will begin the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 29 at 7 PM. It will continue until Thursday, April 2, preparing us for the great days of Palm Sunday, Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum. Fr. Sullivan clarifi ed to me that he does not do dual missions if a parish has two churches. Since St. John is the main worship site for our parish then the mission will have to take place at St. John only, as per his request. I asked him to consider going to St. Charles, but he insisted that it’s not a good way to do a mission since each night’s theme is connected to the previous night.
Speaking of Lent, those days lead us to the great Paschal Triduum which starts at the end Holy Week. I’m hoping more people consider attending these rich and sublime services. Last year I was a bit dumbfounded that so few were present at the Passion of the Lord on Good Friday afternoon. That should be a packed house. I can understand Holy Thursday night, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper which starts at 7:30 PM. But even here I hope the faithful attend this liturgy. This Mass is the remembrance when Jesus instituted two sacraments: The Priesthood and the Holy Eucharist. Pope St. John Paul II once said that without the Priesthood there would be no Eucharist and without the Eucharist there would be no Church. (I think he attributed this to the late Archbishop of New York, John Cardinal O’Connor+) May I be so bold enough to add that without the Church there would be no salvation throughout the ages. Jesus founded the Church for this purpose which continues the Lord’s work of salvation. Along with the Passion of the Lord on Friday (Good Friday), the Vigil in the Holy Night (Easter Vigil) are the most important days in the Church’s liturgical calendar if not in human history itself. What Jesus did for us should burn in our hearts with conviction and passion and, most of all, fi lial love. Please consider sacrifi cing one or two vacation days from work and give them to the Lord this year. God will bless you abundantly if you do. I try to encourage every Catholic to attend the Paschal Triduum at least once in their life. Pray about attending this year. I will storm heaven that your prayers are answered, and we have standing room only churches for these days!
That’s is all for now. Pray for me. Your pastor, Fr. JP
