CURRENT SERMON SERIES I am Foundry: Voices in Harmony

“Why We Sing”

What does it mean to say, “I am Foundry?” It is a claim of identity, connection, and contribution. “I” is singular, “Foundry” is plural. “Voices” is plural and “Harmony” blends the plural into a singular, unified sound. As we share life in community—offering our energies, skills, and resources, our unique voices join together to create the particular song that is “Foundry.” To say “I am Foundry” is affirmation that every gift, every offering, every person and every voice is used by God to create the extraordinary “harmony” that is this beloved community. Throughout this series, we will reflect on John Wesley’s “Directions for Singing” as we consider how our voices in harmony and all our contributions truly make Foundry…Foundry.

Organ Update

Our pipe organ is making its way back home! It has been away undergoing a second stage of repair that will allow it to play the beautiful music that we love even better and for longer periods of time. While the outer part of the organ may even be back in the sanctuary as soon as this Sunday, the instrument’s renovation is on-going. We expect the organ to be ready to play again in November, although there will be additional, temporary interruptions over the next several months that will be necessary to complete its refurbishment.

The organ renovation is a key part of Foundry’s Mission Possible Phase II capital campaign. Thanks to your generous gifts, we are on our way to enhancing the church’s music ministry and, in doing so, fulfilling our goal to expand radical hospitality in our church and our community.

Old cable from the organ console was recently removed to make way for the installation of new cable. Each cable hooks to a pipe of the pipe organ.

Discipleship and Formation OpportunitiesYou are invited to join a variety of new classes this fall. Additional information about the content, leaders and registration are available on the Foundry website.

2017-2018 Annual Theme

Remaster - to make a new copy of a mu-sical recording or film with the sound or image improved.

The master copy of a composition is the original version. Now, with the aid of technology, musical recordings and films can be remastered. Often the remastered versions reveal new depth, clarity and richness of color and tone. Remastering enliv-ens enjoyment of classics by those who have long cherished them and makes them available and accessible to new listeners and viewers.

This year at Foundry, we will play with the concept of remastering as we return to the classics of our faith tradition. We will examine the core teachings and tenets of Christian faith – stories from scripture, worship practices, theological concepts and dynamics of covenant re-lationship. Together, we will pick up these powerful stories and prac-tices, dust them off and consider them afresh as resources for our journey. The language of music and melody will weave throughout the year as we deepen and renew our living faith.
