A Pledge to Parish Life My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its community, if I invite and bring them.

It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a parish with a noble spirit, if I who make it what it is, am filled with these same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be.

Celebrating the Real Gift of Our Parish Mission Welcome To My World HOW DO YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE between a “fanatic” and a “mystic”? Between a person possessed by extreme zeal for a course of action by any means and a person who inspires a sense of mystery and wonder because they “know” something you have yet to discover. It’s a haunting, promising silence Peter, James, and John experience with Jesus. God asking them to reconsider the and purpose of their lives, “Listen to him.”

“Jesus revealed to us that ‘God is love’ and at the same time taught us that the new command of love

was the basic law of human perfection and hence of the world’s transformation ….

Undergoing death itself for all of us sinners, he taught us by example that we too must shoulder that cross

which the world and the flesh inflict upon those who search after peace and justice.”

Gaudium et Spes, Joy and Hope, 38

The October 18th, 1999 Sports Illustrated cover pictured Ram’s quarterback Kurt Warner with the two-inch headline question, “Who is this guy?” Most people didn’t see him coming and couldn’t imagine the outcome of his being here. Warner often commented, “People are looking for the secret to my success.” There must be something behind this, a way of figuring it out and keeping it alive. “I tell them its my faith in Jesus Christ, and they don’t want to hear that. So they ask me the same questions again and again, even though they’ve already gotten the answer. The Lord has something special in mind for this team, and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

I think we may have here a good transfiguration question for the disciples’ experience of Jesus as one who “mystically” could put their minds at ease, providing enlightenment and guidance for their daily lives. Yes, Kurt Warner worked hard at being a great quarterback, but clearly there was something more to his happiness and the Rams surprising success than hard work alone. I encourage you to explore the mystery of Jesus Christ in your life by participating in our Parish Mission this week. You will be surprised and deeply satisfied!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION MIGHT BE the time and place for you to discover and rest in the sureness of the love of God and the promise of God to be with you in the challenges of your everyday life.

At the end of this week we will decide whether or not to continue to have two days of adoration in our parish. We have fewer volunteers and more difficulty meeting the scheduling needs of a two day commitment. We need at least two people for each hour of adoration and have not achieved this goal - necessary for our volunteers’ sense of security and important for managing the schedule of volunteers.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers dedicated to this ministry of prayer - some for many years! If you know someone who has been a part of this ministry, ask them about the benefit it’s had in their life and the blessing they believe it’s been for our parish. Or if you have an interest or questions you can talk with Father Mike or with Linda Schneider (314-868-2374). Currently the hours of adoration begin after the 6:30am Mass on Tuesday and continue until 10:30pm on Wednesday night. Daily prayer is important. This just might be your chance to re-connect or strengthen your connection with God in your life.

The Second Sunday Of Lent February 24, 2013

Lead Me Lord “I want to experience your reconciling love!”

All are invited to join the parish communities of

Holy Name of Jesus and

Our Lady of the Rosary for a

Parish Mission Sunday, February 24th—Thursday, February 28th

A time to explore and celebrate together the sacramental love of Christ for us

and within us for many others.

The Season of Lent is a time of “reconciliation”. The root meaning of this word is both an invitation and a promise. Each syllable forms part of a sentence that reads “let’s walk together again”. This is our hope for Lent, and especially for our Parish Mission.

During Lent in a variety of ways across the Archdiocese we join our brothers and sisters in faith to pray that our own and many others hearts will be open to experience the healing and transforming love of Jesus Christ.

Traditionally Lent is a time to reflect upon the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ—the outpouring of God’s mercy and grace. This is the time to experience the supportive, sacramental love of God.

During our Mission the love of Jesus Christ will be proclaimed in and through the preaching of Father Pete Schavitz, a Redemptorist priest who has been giving parish missions for many years. Through his words and sacramental signs we will encounter Christ who calls us to be God’s people and a blessing in the lives of others. We will encounter Christ who forgives and heals, who reveals the Kingdom of God on Earth through our lifestyles, and who accepts the gift of our lives as the perfect offering in the Eucharist.

Our Parish Mission promises to be the richest experience of “reconciliation”

you may ever have had. Across the Archdiocese many will be coming to find reconciliation with God over the weekend of February 22nd & 23rd through the Sacrament of Penance which will also be celebrated as a part of our Mission.

Confirm your plans now to take part in this most special time in life of our parishes. Invite anyone—everyone—with whom you would like to share such a gift.

October 11th, 2012 - November 24th, 2013 A year of opportunities for Catholics to experience

conversion and a deeper call to discipleship. Come and rediscover a renewed relationship with

Jesus Christ and with the Church. Deepen your trust in God and your confidence about sharing your faith

with others by word and deed.

. SIGNS OF HEART ATTACK FOR WOMEN

Heart attacks and heart disease are more of-ten viewed as a man’s problem than a woman’s. However, More women die of heart disease each in the U.S. Unfortunately heart attack symptoms often go unnoticed in women, resulting in sometimes adverse consequences. Women are more likely to have symptoms that include heartburn or burning in the up-per abdomen, fatigue, difficulty breathing, even nausea. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who don’t have any symptoms before their first attack. Women tend to develop heart disease about 10 years later than men. When symptoms occur, women tend to ignore them and think that the discomfort is due to something else. It is important to know blood pressure, heart rate and cholesterol levels. If numbers are high, start working on l owering them and get them into a normal range by exercising and proper diet. It is important to know other risk factures to heart disease. These include age and family history. What all th1s means is, that if you are having symptoms do not ignore them. A visit to a Doctor could save your life. Peace and Hope, S. Rose, SSND, RN

The Second Sunday Of Lent February 24, 2013

Second Sunday of Lent

“I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession.” GENESIS 15:7

Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether our home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do we show our gratitude to God for the home He has given us? Do we make a sacrifice of any kind? Do we return any of our finances to God, investing equally in our eternal home just as we invest in our current abode?

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

By now, many may have failed in Lenten discipline to some measure or another: the daily doughnut is simply too alluring, or a furtive puff on a cigarette irresistible. There is meaning even in the failure, though, a kind of reminder that we cannot save ourselves. Part of the power of Lent is that we do it together, and although individuals decide on different ways to keep it, it is fundamentally the same journey. We fall, we get up, we keep moving. The desire to “give something up” for Lent is an age‑old impulse in the Christian heart. We get better at it over the years, and move more deeply into the meaning and message of acts of sacrifice; so there is no shame in stumbling, as long as we are not discouraged by the failure and give up. We are clearing space in our lives, after all, and some of the things we desire to give up are worth rooting out completely anyway. What do we do with the space we have cleared out by our sacrifice? The Lenten question of giving up is balanced by the Easter question of our response to Christ’s embrace of us in love: “What are you taking on for Easter?”
