Messages
I am greatly pleased to learn that the first issue of SDCHM
हलचल, quarterly e-Newsletter of our Hotel Management
college is being introduced. A newsletter serves as a medium
to showcase and express the academic and extra-curricular
activities of a college. We would like the parents of our
students and hospitality industry personnel to have a look on
the contents of this E-newsletter to see and appreciate the zeal,
interest and enthusiasm of the faculty and students who put
together their efforts in creating an atmosphere of sound
academic practices in the college so that rightly trained
hospitality professionals for future are produced.
My hearty congratulation to the team of editorial committee
and all teaching and non-teaching staff members of SDCHM.
Sunder Deep College of Hotel Management embarks on a
new journey with SDCHM हलचल – the delicious e-Newsletter
to spread goodwill and awareness of the various activities,
achievements and happenings in the college from the
beginning of this academic year of 2018-19.
As I am aware that Our Hotel Management college plans and
schedules a number of extracurricular and co-curricular
activities besides the academics for students throughout the
year. So, I am confident that the newly introduced e-
newsletter will have a widespread of information and pictures
of all these activities in the information and pictures of all
these activities in the current one and all forthcoming issues
of the E-newsletters.
I extend my best wishes to all the members of the SDCHM
family and call upon all to put in their best to make the college
progress by leaps and bound.

Director Speaks…..
A new academic year has ushered in and it brings
along new hopes, good findings and renewed
enthusiasm for us all.
In the new academic year and as a brand new thing
we, at SDCHM are happy to present before you the
first volume and the first issue of our SDCHM हलचल
– a delicious e-Newsletter.
This new initiative of our college aims to serve as a
chronicle of all happenings and achievements of our
students and faculty members periodically as we will
publish our e-Newsletter every quarter of the year.
A lot has happened in the college since the beginning
of the current academic year. We revamped the
college infrastructure wise and have added many
new labs and facilities for our students. We
succeeded in acquiring affiliation from NCHMCT
and introduced new degree and diploma courses
from this year. With appointment of many new
faculty members, we now have a bigger pool of
academic talent in the college from this year.
Thus, with an enhanced new look and with energy
and expertise of new members of the team, SDCHM
has already marched ahead strongly in 2018-19
academic session.
We thank all the stakeholders of the college - the
management, parents, students, faculty and the
industry for their unstinted support in making
SDCHM a quality learning center.

Congratulation to SDCHM University Rank Holders
AKTU BHMCT batch 2014-18
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam University published the list of University Rank
Holders for different courses for the year 2018-19 on 09th August2018. It
was a matter of pride for our college as the Top Ten Rank holders of
Bachelor's of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHMCT) course
comprised of three students from Sunder Deep College of Hotel
Management, Ghaziabad (College Code 326)
Carrying forward the tradition of excellent results of the college like
previous years, the three students of SDCHM who made it to the Toppers
List are Ms. Himanshi Bhaskar (Roll No. 1432674015) who secured 4th
Rank in the list and secured 80.10 % of total marks with 1st Division
Honours, Mr. Deepanshu Kumar (Roll No. 1432674011) who secured 6th
Rank in the list and secured 79.30 % of total marks with 1st Division
Honours. and Mr. Yash Dhall (Roll No. 1432674046) who secured 10th
Rank in the list while securing 77.40 % of total marks with 1st Division
Honours.
The college is proud of all these students and wishes them a sound and
successful career ahead.

B.Sc. & BHMCT Orientation @ SDCHM
ORIENTATION OF B. Sc. HHA, BHMCT & MCG / NCHMCT Diploma students was conducted from
25th July 2018 to 28th July 2018.
In the beginning of the function, Traditional Welcome as per the Hospitality Industry Practices was
given to all newly admitted students along with their accompanying parents and guardians.
Then, in Know Your College 1ST an Introduction to SDGI as a group with Top management people’s
and SDCHM as a college and its journey since inception through a PPT was presented. It was followed
by Know Your Teachers which introduced SDCHM Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Members to all
students.
SDCHM General Rules – Do’s & Don’ts by the Principal SDCHM was explained to students and
Mentors for them were introduced and the ways to approach the mentors was briefed.
Later on Course Introduction and Scheme of Studies along with Academic Calendar, Time-table &
Bags were handed over to all students.
Delicious lunch to all students and their parents/guardians were served.
Other events during the course of four days included-
Ice Breaking Sessions- (Students’ Self-Intro Sessions & Interaction with one another was coordinated
by Mr. Ranvir Singh
Your Introduction to the Hospitality & Tourism World including Career Aspects was explained to
all students.
Life of a Hotelier (Video on the employees working standard in the global Hospitality Industry were
shown to all.)
Know Your College 2 – (students were taken to Visit to all the areas, departments and sections)
I. Session on Hospitality Industry Grooming Standards by Prof. R L Sahu
II. Departmental Presentation 1 – FRONT OFFICE by Ms. Anupa Bora
III. Departmental Presentation 2 – HOUSE-KEEPING by Ms. Sukhpreet Singh
IV. Departmental Presentation 3 – FOOD PRODUCTION by Mr. Sandeep Kumar
V. Departmental Presentation 4 – F & B SERVICE by Mr. Harish Kumar.
VI. PDP Session on An ideal Student’s Dressing Sense, Basic Manners, Etiquettes, Gestures &
Postures in the college was conducted. Session on Hospitality Industry Grooming Standards by
Mr. Harish Kumar
VII. Guest Lecture 1 – by an Executive Chef from a 5 Star Hotel on Career Scope in the Hospitality
& Tourism was delivered by Chef Manoj Kumar from JayPee Siddharth, New Delhi.
VIII. Students Meeting and Interactions with Experts from the Hospitality Industry/SDCHM Pass-
out Students was conducted in which Mr. Sahil Goswami, an alumni of SDCHM and currently
General Manager of Hotel World Square, Ghaziabad
Common SDGI Valedictory Session in the Seminar Hall, Main Building was conducted on the last day on
28th July 2018.

House Formation @ SDCHM
Sunder Deep College of Hotel Management organized SDCHM Houses Formation
activity on Saturday 25th August 2018 in its college building. The college has formed
four different houses namely Taj House, Oberoi House, Hyatt House and Sheraton
House. All students of the college studying different courses are made members of these
houses. The senior students’ house membership was reconstituted and the newly joined
BHMCT and B. Sc HHA students were added to the four houses in a systematic way.
New Faculty Coordinators, new House Captains and House Vice- Captains of all houses
for the academic session 2018-19 were appointed. All new students of 1 st year (2018-
2019 session) participated in house formation activity. The new students were assigned
different houses out of four houses of the college. As per the division of the houses all
students of the concerned house will take part in various events to be organized by the
college during the current academic year. The House Formation event was conducted in
the presence of Director SDCHM Prof. R L Sahu, both HODs and all faculty members of
the college. Ms. Sukhpreet Singh, HOD AKTU Courses coordinated the event with
assistance from other faculty members.

Teacher’s Day @ SDCHM
Students of SDCHM celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th
Sep 2018 in honour of their faculty members. On this
occasion students of organized some cultural events like
speech, song and a cake cutting ceremony was held. The
event became memorable experience for all teachers.

The Management of SDGI recognized the efforts made by
faculty members during the academic year 2017-18 and
awarded them “Academic Excellence Awards”. The
“Academic Excellence Award” was given to:

Fresher’s Party @ SDCHM
“Fresher’s Party was organized by the senior students for welcoming
newcomers in college. The party organized in campus was a fun filled
affair. Various cultural activities like dance, song, ramp walk, poetry etc.
were performed by the students under the guidance of all faculty
members of department to make this event a grand success. Entire event
was based on Bollywood theme. Mr. Fresher, Ms. Fresher, Mr. Talent,
Ms. Talent were chosen in the contest held for the same.

Workshop on Bartending Skills @ SDCHM
It was another eventful day on 22nd September 2018 when the college organized a
Workshop on Bartending Skills for the students in College like previous years.
This workshop was organized for basically for BHMCT 3rd semester and 5th semester
students as they are studying about alcoholic beverages in their course now as per the
curriculum.
The main objective of this workshop was to make students familiar about what all trends
are going in the Bartending arena of the Hotel Industry. This Workshop started with a
speech by Director SDCHM, Prof. R. L. Sahu. Later, the professional bartender Mr.
Rajendra Kumar took the conversation forward with students. Students Learned about
the following things in the workshop: -
Mixology and Bartending Skills
Making of various Cocktails and Mocktails
Different Ingredients, Glassware, and Other Equipment used
The joyous workshop encouraged participants to acquire all necessary knowledge and
skills which can enable them to work in a bar. The resource person insisted on hands on
training and work with each individual personally during the practical Session.

World Tourism Day @ SDCHM
On September 27, 2018, Sunder deep College of Hotel Management organized many events on the
occasion of World Tourism Day 2018. The theme of various events was “Tourism & Culture
Protection”
The details of the events are as under:
Event 1: - Quiz Competition on Hospitality & Tourism
Event Coordinator’s – Mr.Ranvir Singh & Ms. Anupa Bora
The first event was an Interactive session between the students of different Houses in the College.
A quiz Competition was held between the Houses (Taj, Oberoi, Sheraton, Hyatt). The winner of
the Quiz Competition was Oberoi House.
Event 2: - Tourism -Themed Poster making Competition
Event Coordinator’s – Ms. Sukhpreet Singh & Ms. Anupa Bora
This event was an opportunity for students to showcase their Imagination and Creativity Skills.
Different posters were made by students on the theme given to them.
Winners for this Competition were:
4. 1st position- Ms. Bharti Sharma & Mr.Priyam Srivastav
5. 2nd Position – Ms. Yeshika & Ms.Muskan Kumari
6. 3rd Position –Mr. Sharan Datta & Ms.Manpreet Kaur.

Event 3: - Essay Writing Competition.

The event was organised and students of all the years were made to participate and the Topic was
“Tourism & Cultural Protection”.
Winners for this Competition were:

5. 2nd Position – Mr.Vishal Singh
6. 3rd Position –Mr. Abhinav Tomar.

Event 4: - Tourism - Incredible India State Culture Representation
Event Coordinator’s – Ms. Sukhpreet Singh & Ms. Anupa Bora
This event was held as a talent exhibition show and a test of general knowledge and cultural
awareness of participating students by representing their own states in their Traditional Way along
with presentation of some of the Famous Dishes of their states. The participants were asked many
questions by the judges in regards to their Culture, Traditions and Heritage. The participants
dressed up in their local costumes and spoke in own language.
Winners for this Competition were:
1. 1st position- Mr.Kamal Choudhary & Mr.Arun Bhati
2. 2nd Position – Mr.V.Akash & Mr.Sanket
3. 3rd Position –Ms.Aabriti Roy & Mr.Aabhash Roy
Event 5: -
Guest Lecture on “Tourism & Culture Protection” by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar from BCIHMCT,
New Delhi.
Event Coordinator’s – Prof. R.L Sahu
This event was a PPT lecture by the resource person clubbed with an interactive session between
the Guest Faculty and Students, in which students were informed about “Tourism & Culture
Protection”.
This event started with a speech by Director SDCHM Prof. R. L. Sahu. Later, Dr. Bhupesh
Kumar took the conversation forward with students on Tourism and Culture Protection. In this,
various aspect of Tourism were discussed by Guest Faculty with the students by presenting PPT.
After the Lecture, there was Question & Answer round in which student asked many questions to
the Guest Faculty and Director of SDCHM.
Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution.
At the end of the day Prize distribution for the winners of various events was conducted by the
Guest Faculty, Executive Director, SDGI Dr. Anju Saxena, Director SDCHM Prof. R L Sahu along
with directors and principals of different colleges of SDGI.
Vote of Thanks was proposed by Director, SDCHM - Prof. R L Sahu at the end to mark the
completion of the events and ceremony.
