Every year, almost 100,000 men are dying needlessly prematurely (before 75) each year

compared to about 66,000 women. That's more than the capacity of Wembley, nearly

as many men as in the British Army

Life expectancy is measured in years – dark colours show low life expectancy

Among males in Sunderland West the lowest life expectancy is experienced by communities in Pallion, St. Annes and Sandhill wards

In a nut shell….• Some very disadvantaged communities within

the Sunderland West area• Correlation between low education attainment

and unemployment• Poorer health, particularly in Sandhill, St

Annes and Pallion• High prevalence of smoking• Particularly low uptake of immunisations in

some wards

Sunderland Male life expectancy

• Life expectancy at birth is 75.9 years for males, this compares to 76.5 in the North East and 78.6 years for males across England.

GOOD NEWS average life expectancy for both males and females living in Sunderland is rising over time.

• Within Sunderland wards, a man living in Washington South could live nearly 17 years longer than a man living in Hendon.

BAD NEWS among males the gap in life expectancy between Sunderland and England has

widened
