July 22, 23 & 24 marks the 47th annual Manitoba Sunflower Festival in Altona. At our Festival, there’s something for everyone. Town Wide Flea Market - NEW!Head downtown on Friday and look for the big tent on Main Street. Shop for bargains, participate in the Family Feud game and support Altona’s Youth For Christ fundraising BBQ. Sponsored by the Al-tona & District Chamber of Commerce.

Friday Night Stage Show & Street Dance (Music by Mother Groove)Head over to the portable stage beside the park to take in the Opening ceremo-nies of the Festival including the crowning of Miss Congeniality and Miss People’s Choice. Following the Opening ceremonies it’s time to enjoy the sounds of Win-nipeg’s Mother Groove as they play their rhythm & blues flavoured rock music with a modern approach, located on 10th ave. in front of the park and Gallery in The Park entrance.

Energy for Generations For 60 years, we’ve generated clean, renewable electricity for Manitoba using the natural flow of rivers. It started with construction of the Pine Falls Generating Station on the Winnipeg River and continued with our first hydroelectric developments on the Nelson River. Gallery in the ParkWhile enjoying the flurry of activities that the festi-val offers, be sure to take some time to slow down and stroll into Southern Manitoba’s foremost art gallery, the Gallery in the Park. Walk around the extensive grounds and the 310 foot water channel that is connected by upper and lower ponds, and appreciate the numerous sculptures from artists across North America. Inside the Historic Schwartz House Gallery the second season featured artists Shirley Elias & Bette Woodland will have their pieces on display.

Quilt ShowIf you appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of a quilt, you’ll love the annual show put on by the local quilting guild - The Heirloom Quilters at the South Park MB Church. On Thursday and Festival Friday the Altona Bisons 55+ baseball club will host a tournament. Friday evening local men’s Fastball players will form teams and participate in

“friendly” games. Also beginning on Thursday and running into and throughout the weekend, Altona Minor Baseball hosts the Pee Wee AA Provincials. Sunday winds down with the local Co-Ed Slo-Pitch league hosting a fun Slo-Pitch tournament.

Saturday Morning ParadeA highlight to any festival is a parade. The parade at the Sunflower Festival is a major highlight. Bring a lawnchair and head downtown to enjoy the largest commercial and agriculture parade in Southern Manitoba. Kids ActivitiesFestivals are for families, so it’s no surprise that there is plenty to see and do for the younger ones. The Altona Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Town Wide Scavenger Hunt on Friday & Saturday. Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. is the ever popular “Needle in a Haystack” prize search outside at the Flea Market tent on Main Street. Inside the park loop throughout the weekend your children

Legends 33rd Annual Show in the ParkThe Legends Car Club proudly hosts their automobile show in the park on Sunday starting at noon. Enjoy the huge assort-ment of classic and antique cars, trucks, motorcycles and even some snowmobiles, all beautifully displayed throughout the finely manicured park grounds.
