The last time he was scheduled to speak on this topic, he didn’t make it past the introduction before the time ran out.The Ignite program is a comprehensive membership recruitment, retention and extension program being piloted in Zone 26.
The torch is the symbol of the Ignite program. From ancient times, the torchbearers have been the first on the paths of discovery, exploration and battle, illuminating the way for those who follow.
Rotarians in District 5500 have an opportunity to become torchbearers who will invite, unite, and ignite new members whos fire and energy when combined with our current membership will help overcome the darkness of poverty, illiteracy, hunger, and disease.
Jim Corrigan, a member of Tucson Sunrise Rotary since 2004 and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Dec. 19. A physician, he was the former chief of staff of the UA Medical Center, a respected mentor and instructor who specialized in pediatric cancer and blood disorders. He was 77.He began working as a tenured professor of pediatrics at the University of Arizona in 1971. He remained part of the UA faculty until 1990 when he left to serve as a professor of pediatrics and internal medicine at Tulane University. While at Tulane, he also held positions as vice dean, dean and vice president of the Tulane University Health Sciences Center before retiring in 2002. He returned to the UA as a clinical professor in 2009 and was
responsible for teaching and mentoring residents in the department of pediatrics.
The Tucson Sunrise Rotary Club Board of Directors approved a donation of $300 to the charity chosen by Jim’s wife, Carolyn: The University of Arizona Arthritis Center, designated for pediatric rheumatology. A memorial service will be held Jan. 19, 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N Valley View Dr., with a reception to follow.
