During her appointments she encountered many people who were also dealing with the impact of a cancer diagnosis and the challenges of treatment. “During this difficult time in my life, the care I received from the staff of the Odette Cancer Centre was first-class,” notes Shelley. “e team looking after me was very professional and always treated me with kindness and compassion.” “We are supporting the construction of the new Breast Cancer Centre because my wife was treated so well at Sunnybrook,” explains Steven. “We want to ensure top-notch care and support services are available to women who may experience breast cancer. Constructing a large multi- disciplinary space specifically for breast cancer patients will increase their comfort and lead to research that will save more lives.” “My husband and I understand that these are tough economic times but it’s so important that people become engaged and give back as much as they can,” notes Shelley. “Find a cause that you’re passionate about and invest your time and resources. Sunnybrook Foundation NewsThe McGirrs support the new Breast Cancer Centre

Five years ago, Shelley McGirr was diagnosed with breast cancer and treated

at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre. During her appointments she encountered many people who were also dealing with the impact of a cancer diagnosis and the challenges of treatment.

“During this diffi cult time in my life, the care I received from the staff of the Odette Cancer Centre was fi rst-class,” notes Shelley. “Th e team looking after me was very professional and always treated me with kindness and compassion.”

“We are supporting the construction of the new Breast Cancer Centre because my wife was treated so well at Sunnybrook,” explains Steven. “We want to ensure top-notch care and support services are available to

Amgen Canada, a biotechnology and human therapeutics company, and

longstanding supporter of innovation at Sunnybrook, is proud to expand its partnership with the Odette Cancer Centre.

Amgen has made a leadership gift of $1-million in support of oncology patient care programs and education at Sunnybrook.
