Did You Know!?

What is Digital Citizenship?? Technology Is All Around Us!!!!

Let’s face it…. Our students are living in a new era, with technology being a part of their every hour. From smart phones, to computers, social media to internet streaming, everywhere you turn there is a digital presence. At Sunset School K-8 we want to ensure that students are not only safe when using technology, but responsible and thoughtful in how they use it. Being a good digital citizen is many things….. safe use of the internet, knowing your way around the web, building a reputable “Digital Footprint” and connecting and collaborating in ways you didn't even know were possible!

We teach all students, grade level appropriate curriculum, to be good digital citizens. We aim to create a positive school culture that supports safe and responsible technology use. Did you know that employers and universities comb through an applicants digital footprint when looking at applica-tions? Teaching students to post and comment responsibly is one example of curriculum taught. As a family do you:

Ever want strategies on how to limit screen time? Argue with your student about what they are looking at or posting?

Wonder what video games are right for your student? Interested in knowing who is looking at your student’s digital footprint?

Then you should check out www.commonsense.org This site has some amazing resources for par-ents. These resources can be found on our school website as well! You can also print a copy of “the Family Media Agreement” that walks you through a discussion as a family about what your fam-ily believes to be appropriate technology use. Thank you for your partnership in creating AWESOME DIGITAL CITIZENS!

Dude Be Nice! October is Anti– Bullying Month! In addition to ongoing student education programs, culture building and expecta-tion setting, Sunset School counselor Ms. Agnes will be facilitating DUDE BE NICE WEEK October 21st through 25th! There will be many fun and educational activities for students to participate in. On Tuesday October 22nd we will be doing a special community service project in our garden if you would like to join us at lunch! If you have never had the opportunity to see a Dude Be Nice Pro-ject production check it out at www.dudebenice.com. #BeTheChange!

Sunset Color Run 2019 a Huge Success! Thank you to our amazing PTA and all of the volunteers who came out to support our Color Run Jog-a-thon this year. Keep those pledges coming in! Every $ goes towards student ser-vices like fieldtrips, assemblies, Art Trek, Accelerated Reader, and the tennis program. The students had a blast! One kindergartner asked “Can we do the color run again tomorrow!!??” See you next year at the annual Sunset Jog-A-Thon!
