Actual Scheme Of SAL
Integrated Center Laser Stepper Motor For Precise Operation
Each laser is mounted on the opposite sides of the timing belt.
This makes the motion of the lasers symmetrical.
Timing belt and Pulley
Arrangement
Single Stepper motorcoupled to timing belt drives both the lasers.
The center laser is mounted separately.
The center laser is fixed while the two lasers on either side are movable
The drive unit contains the moving lasers, linear motion arrangement. The drive unit is a standalone unit and communicates with the controller using a RS 485 interface.

Easy Interface For PLC/Relay Logic System.
Push Buttons For Fully Manual Operation.
Each BCD switch bank corresponds to a step.
The distance setting for the step is set on the BCD switches.
The controller has 3 optically isolated ports, which can be used to interface with the PLC/Relay logic system of the tyre building machine.
The controller also contains push buttons for selecting steps manually.
BCD Switch Banks consist of 3 sets of BCD switches.
For Example:
The controller is set for the following distances..
Step 1: 230Step 2: 190Step 3: 205Step 4: 181Step 5: 220
(All Distances are in mm)
The Controller contains the BCD switches for the distance setting of each step. On application of the step change signal , the controller sends a command to the drive unit to move the lasers. For manual operation the controller has 3 push buttons to increment, decrement and reset the step counter.

Seven Segment Displays For Easy Visibility
Display UnitSAL Series
The step number indicates the step being executed by the SAL system.
The distance setting for the step is also displayed alongside the step number
Four Display Segments For Step & Distance Data.
Independently Mounted Unit.
The display unit can also indicate error codes or any other diagnostic information
The Display unit is a standalone system that shows the step being executed and the distance setting for the step. The unit can be mounted independently at a prominent position. The unit can also indicate error codes or any other diagnostic information.

Tyre Building ApplicationSAL Series
The display unit can be mounted at a convenient position.
An RS 485 bus is used to connect the controller with the other units.
The Controller.
For manual operation the controller can be placed near the operator
PLC/Relay connections for step change signals.
Incremental pulses from the PLC are used to set a step.
Drive unit mounted on a crossbar above the tyre building drum.

The SAL system architecture for tyre building machines is shown below.
PLC
Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
PLC
The step change signal from the tyre building machine control panel is received by the controller. The controller sends a command to the drive unit to move the lasers to the set distance for the step.

Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
PLC
The display unit is updated with the new step after execution has been completed successfully.

Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
To increment the step counter, a 12/24 V DC pulse from the control panel is applied to the increment port of the SAL controller, similarly the step counter can be decremented or reset by applying a pulse to the decrement and reset ports respectively.
At the end of the tyre building cycle the lasers automatically return to the home position (zero position).

Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
For manual operation the step change signals are derived from 3 push buttons on the SAL controller. These push buttons may be used to increment, decrement and reset the step counter.

Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
The SAL devices use a three wire RS 485 bus for communicating with each other. The RS 485 bus interface allows the devices to be placed at long distances from each other.

Tyre Building OperationSAL Series
The laser line generators used by the SAL system are based on the popular fixed laser line generators. The laser line generators have variable focusing and intensity control features.
The line length of the center laser is long (2-3 meters) while the moving lasers are shorter ( 0.3 meters).
The above configuration can be changed as per the requirement of the customer.

Extruder Machine (Top View)
Extruded Rubber Ply Component.
SAL Automatic Laser placed above the extruder machine
Center laser line, aligned with the center line of the extruder machine
The SAL system can also be used in band building applications where extruded rubber component from the extruder machine needs to be adjusted in size.
The SAL system is correctly aligned with the center line of the extruder machine, the span of the moving lasers are set to the desired width of the rubber component.
Deviations in the width of the rubber component can now be visually observed by the operator. The size of the rubber component can then be adjusted to match the laser line positions.
The SAL system can be used in places where different sizes of rubber components are extruded from the same machine.
The SAL system architecture for extruder machine is shown below.

Extruder machine (Top View)
Extruded rubber component.
SAL drive unit placed above the extruder machine Deviation in size of rubber
component. The laser lines are now not aligned with the edge of the component.
This indicates that the size of the rubber component needs to be adjusted.
Laser lines correctly aligned with the rubber components, this indicates that the size of the rubber component being extruded is correct and no adjustment is required
ComparisonSAL Series

SAL Series Fixed Laser Line Generators
Uses only 3 Laser Line Generators to achieve 5,7,9 and 11 laser line positions.
11 laser line generators have to be used.
Uses comparatively less wiring. Large amount of wiring required.
User friendly recipe setup using BCD switches. Does not require the tyre building machine to be shutdown.
Recipe setup involves re-positioning the lasers manually using Allen keys. This can be time consuming and may require the tyre building machine to be shutdown.
Provision to display step information and distance setting for the step.
Does not have a display system.
In-built provision for manual operation. There is no provision for manual operation.
