Super Learning and Meditation

Super learning is related to the alpha state but more so the theta state. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Bulgarian psychiatrist Georgi Lozanov, used deep relaxation and synchronized rhythms in the brain causing students to produce alpha waves. Lozanov found that in this state, students learned over five times as much information with less study time and with increased long term retention. Some students learned as much as thirty times in this relaxed state.

Speech and Language pathologist Suzanne Evans Morris, PH.D., and neurotechnology and biofeedback researcher Thomas Budzynski found in case studies, that by being in the state of theta much more information was absorbed by the brain. They found that both hemispheres of the brain as well as the subcortical areas all working in harmony reflecting equal frequency and amplitude in the theta range caused the brain to uncritically accept “verbal material or almost any material it can process.” Budzynski goes on to state, “a lot of work gets done very quickly.” Both Morris and Budzynski found that with the use of brain wave entrainment, students were able to retain the theta state for much longer periods of time.

Power of the Brain

Scientists have found that our conscious mind, which is the analytical part of the mind, can hold 5 to 9 pieces of distinct information at any given time. On the other, the subconscious mind also known as the unconscious mind; is immeasurable or known to be limitless. Mathematician John Von Neumann calculated that brain could store up to 280,000,000,000,000,000 bits of information, with this number being conservative.

In the 1950’s an educator by the name of Vearl G Mcbride, figured out how to get students to speed read at over 100 000 words per minute. Later in the 1970’s Richard Welch who is now known as the father of mental photography got students from ages eight to eighty eight to photograph or ‘speed read’ words at over 2 million words per minute with a life long retention rate of 85% – 95%.

Why just over 2 million words you may ask? Well a machine called a tachistoscope maxed out 40 milliseconds, flashing over 2 million words per minute. And what about this lifelong retention rate? Scientist found and tested that by using this method of learning we don’t forget the information and retain the information for life.

So you have a general idea about the power of your brain. It isn’t difficult to tap into that power. Continue to meditate and check out all the videos on mental photography and learn how to use your subconscious mind.
