High School Construction Timeline

PHASE 1—COMPLETED

(futuristic new academic wing with

large classrooms, natural light ,

inspiring learning environments,

and expanded special education

spaces conducive to learning and

students’ special needs)

The first phase adds to the

comprehensiveness of our high

school programming so every

student can discover their own

passions and talents.

PHASE 2—2018 COMPLETION

(choir and band rooms, black box

theater, new athletic facilities,

large open commons and

cafeteria areas, new main office,

and expanded guidance services)

PHASE 3—2019 COMPLETION

(complete modernization and

renovation of the auditorium)

Construction Update

Construction continued in earnest throughout the summer. The Dunwiddie Elementary School addition is complete and the Dedication and Open House will take place on Wednesday, August 30th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend to celebrate the completion of the Dunwiddie Elementary School addition.

At the High School, the new three-story academic wing has been completed

with spacious and well-lit classrooms to accommodate our students well into

the future. New furniture has also arrived and been placed in the rooms.

Thank you to the staff members for your excitement in organizing your new

classroom spaces. Phase 1 of the construction project was completed on

time and on budget. The second phase started this summer with the

demolition of the oldest parts of the building. Once the area is cleared of

debris, construction will begin on the middle portion of the high school and is

scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.

Then, the third and final phase (total remodeling and upgrading of the

auditorium) will be completed for the 2019-20 school year. We have a

fantastic team of contractors, architects, Board members, and staff working

together to bring about the successful completion of our construction project.

We want to thank the Ozaukee Press for their ongoing coverage of this

historic event. The photographs in the press and the articles have helped

keep the community informed. Attached is a full-page ad the School Board

placed in the graduation section of the Ozaukee Press, thanking the

community for their support of our students well into the future with our

continued theme of “the future is bright.”

Finally, bricks from the 1931 building will be placed in front of the school

from August 21-25 for community members as a memento.

Mental Health Class Back by popular demand, we will again offer a three-credit graduate mental health class this fall. Individuals can take the class for advancement on the salary guide or reimbursement, DPI license recertification, and as a book study. Attached is the flyer about the class, including the dates and directions for registration.

Training Session (Who Heals the Healers) During last fall’s mental health class, several people asked, “What about us?” Since then, I have been reading several authors and reviewing research on who heals the healers. Consequently, I have developed a 60-minute training session entitled, How to Control Stress and Compassion Fatigue Using Four Critical Concepts. Thus far, it is scheduled to be presented at the Saukville Chamber meeting on Wednesday, September 27th at 12:00 noon, and as the fifth (optional) session for the fall mental health class on Wednesday, November 15th from 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Scheduling Meetings with Superintendent During this next school year, I will be meeting with individual and small groups of staff members in each building. Also, I would like to increase my visits to classrooms, and I always appreciate invitations to make certain that I do not interrupt your classes and instruction. If a department, a team, or individual would like to meet with me in your building, please contact Heidi or me. I am looking forward to spending more time with you this upcoming school year.

Thank you! Finally, the School Board members wanted me to thank all of you for your tremendous dedication and support of our students. We have a wonderful group of board members who are here to help and support our efforts. They are positive, upbeat, and enjoy being with one another. We would like to invite you to attend any of our board or committee meetings, especially in the beginning as we recognize student groups and staff member accomplishments.

We have a very special place here! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and having us all together on Monday, August 28th!

We educate all children to reach their greatest potential.

The Port Washington-Saukville School Board thanks our communities for supporting the education of our youth, now and into the future with a state-of-art High School Education Complex and adding much needed elementary classrooms to Dunwiddie Elementary School. The first High School phase is complete - futuristic new academic wing with large classrooms, natural light, inspiring learning environments, and expanded special education spaces conducive to learning and students’ special needs. The first phase adds to the comprehensiveness of our High School programming so every student can discover their own passions and talents.

The second phase is scheduled for completion in 2018 (modern choir and band rooms, black box theater, new athletic facilities, large open commons and cafeteria areas, new main office, and expanded guidance services).

The third and final phase will be completed in 2019 (complete modernization and renovation of the auditorium).
