Supplier Connect Newsletter

Leadership is a verb, not a noun.

During tough times our people can be under stress, as can our leaders. How do we see the warning signs and how do we act? The actions we take can leave a lasting impression on our people and their performance.

This edition follows R U OK week and a focus we had in Woodside in September on mental well-being. We encouraged our teams to reflect on how we can look after ourselves and each other. We also reached out to some of our key suppliers to hear how they lead their people through adversity.

Through these conversations we learned that, in tough times, how we empower and enable our people can create the culture of our companies, influence relationships with clients and suppliers, impact our reputation and importantly, change how our companies perform.

This edition of Supplier Connect highlights our recent focus on the supply chain “ecosystem” and on unleashing its full potential.

We also provide information to you about two technology platforms we are adopting to provide an easier and more transparent method of doing business with our supply chain. ISNET will improve the collection and assessment of supplier HSE information and Ariba will provide suppliers with a more collaborative platform to conduct business with us.

I’m particularly excited to showcase a supplier success story from Centurion who have collaborated successfully with Woodside to deliver value add-ing and ground-breaking improvements to our joint businesses. We invite suppliers who have suggestions for creating mutual competitive advantage to join us in the improvement journey.

Jeff Davie, Acting VP Logistics

Jeff is responsible for the delivery of air, land and sea logistics and materials management services across Woodside’s business.

Jackie Harris, Chief Procurement Officer

Jackie is responsible for the management and governance of all sourcing and contracting activities in Woodside.

ISNetworld to Improve Supplier Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Information Management Earlier this year Woodside established a business relationship with ISN® to improve the collection and assessment of supplier HSE information. ISN® will help Woodside and its suppliers in the region maintain up to date HSE information to promote transparency, clear communication and continuous improvement. ISN® collates self-reported HSE information in their ISNetworld database. The database will include HSE performance history and HSE management system evidence. Using the ISNetworld database will create further alignment across the oil and gas community peer group.

Supplier subscribers to ISNetworld will benefit from reduced and repetitive submission of HSE information to Woodside. They will also be able to obtain feedback on compliance with Woodside and regulatory requirements as well as receive help on identifying opportunities for improvement.

Suppliers already subscribed to ISNetworld will be invited to complete the Woodside client profile and a member of the ISN® team will be in contact to assist. A plan for on boarding suppliers that are not currently subscribed to ISNetworld will be executed in Q4 2016.

Woodside is looking forward to implementing this solution to help improve our HSE in contracting and to further strengthen relationships with our suppliers.

Need to know: Business to Business e-Commerce

In our last edition of Supplier Connect we introduced SAP Ariba, a world leading Business to Business network that we are currently implementing with planned go-live in early Q2 2017.

By now many of our suppliers have been contacted by both Woodside and SAP Ariba requesting they join the network. Over the coming weeks we hope to enable a number of suppliers to ensure the benefits of the network are fully realised, for both sellers and Woodside as a buyer.

We will also be requesting that suppliers support the creation of e-catalogues reflecting materials and services within our contractual arrangements. By doing so Woodside will be able to better direct our spend to contracted items (ensuring better control and compliance of spend), reduce reliance on obtaining requests for quotations, and embed a better ordering process with you.

If you have not yet been contacted by Woodside, but are interested in joining the network please contact us as [email protected].

Collaboration drives Mobility Project forward Perth Distribution CentreCenturion, Accenture and Woodside (IS&S and Logistics) worked as a collaborative team to deliver a mobile solution that interfaces with our SAP system. The solution covers warehouse picking, stock put away, and delivery movement within our supply chain network.

The team used Agile project methodology which breaks the solution into bite sized chunks, and adjusts the design according to user feedback in small incremental upgrades-like an application on your phone. This resulted in a solution that is easier to use than SAP, and allows our warehouse operators to complete transactions whilst performing physical tasks, rather than going back to their computer terminals.

This project has delivered more efficient and accurate logistics processes and also provides easier training for new team members through intuitive design. The next steps are to bring the solution to our Karratha based warehouses and extend the applications to include more of our standard warehousing and distribution transactions.

Stand Together for Safety in Subsea and PipelinesWoodside held its annual Stand Together for Safety week from 22 – 26 August 2016. This year’s theme was “Maintaining the Connection”. Woodside’s Subsea and Pipelines (SS&PL) team used this theme as an opportunity to recognise the importance of how the connections we make help strengthen our safety culture, including the vital role our suppliers play in safety performance.

As such, SS&PL’s key suppliers were invited to join Woodside employees in a discussion on the topics: “A Zero Incident Rate is Achievable”, “A Low Cost Environment Provides an Opportunity to Improve Safety Performance”, and “Prescriptive H&S Requirements Remove Personal Responsibility”. Morgan Harland, GM SS&PL, opened the event and Andy Fielding, Project Manager for Greater Western Flank (GWF)-2, was the emcee and adjudicator. The event generated deep conversations about HSE, how human behaviours impact safety performance and how perseverance and awareness are key. It also was an opportunity for Woodside to strengthen and ‘Maintain the Connection’ with its suppliers across our business.

Stand Together for Safety - Northwest Sea EagleThe combined hard work of the many, makes loading of LNG carriers look like an easy task, similar to filling up the family car at the fuel station. The truth is it takes significant amount of planning and collaboration from a large number of skilled conscientious people to ensure it happens seamlessly, looking out for each other by keeping ourselves and our colleagues out of the line of fire through enhanced awareness of the potential impact of our behaviours/ actions.

The Stand Together for Safety event held onboard the LNG tanker Northwest Seaeagle, provided a unique opportunity to bring all parties together to reflect on how we work together. People focus day-to-day on their own part of the service, and Stand Together for Safety provided an opportunity for people to step away from their jobs and have a structured discussion about what they do and how it may impact, or be impacted by others. This was the first time we have had the whole team together. Participants included, our towage services contractor, Riverwijs, North West Shelf Shipping Company (NWSSC), Shell Tanker Australia, Karratha terminal jetty and loading team, Woodside Port Operations team, Marine Pilots and Loadmasters, and Pilot boat operators.

Stand Together For Safety; supporting world class safety and efficiency in our operations.

CCI Winning Work in Tough TimesDerek Albert, Woodside’s Local Content Coordinator, provided information on the CIIC and other activities that Woodside are pursuing to deliver operational excellence through the increased adoption of technology and innovation at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Resources Conference. Derek reiterated the continuing need for further collaboration and innovation in the Oil and gas sector. More detail on the initiatives being undertaken are available on the Woodside Science and Technology webpage.

Derek also provided an update on Woodside’s current activities related to the North West Shelf subsea tieback program and the Greater Enfield project and how these and other major projects utilise the services of the Industry Connect Network of Western Australia (ICNWA) to advertise upcoming opportunities across the resource sector, and for the provision of advice on local capability and capacity.

Importantly, ICNWA are now utilising the ICN Gateway for project and supplier information, and suppliers are encouraged to make sure all of the information related to their business is current by updating their detail in the database. http://gateway.icn.org.au/

Indigenous Businesses introduced to the CIICIn August, Woodside invited 20 Indigenous businesses and development organisations to the CIIC. The visit to the CIIC provided an opportunity for the Indigenous businesses to learn about the CIIC, the role of Woodside, CISCO and Curtin University and what each party contributes. Since then, several of the businesses have brought their ideas forward and expressed an interest in using the space to collaborate and create new solutions.

The Cisco Internet of Everything Innovation Centre (CIIC)The CIIC is an industry and research collaboration centre at Curtin University, established by Cisco with foundation partners Curtin University and Woodside.

Cisco defines the Internet of Everything (IoE) as “bringing together people, process, data, and things to make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before, turning information into actions that create new capabilities, richer experiences, and unprecedented economic opportunity for businesses, individuals, and countries.” The CIIC’s mission, therefore, is to create a state-of-the-art connected community in Western Australia focused on leveraging cloud, analytics, cyber security and (IoE) network platforms.

The Centre provides collaboration and co-working space, a demonstration area and experimental lab facility, and is open to students, researchers, industry operators, suppliers and technology service providers. It’s a chance for you, our suppliers, to get involved in the innovation ecosystem.
