    What is the purpose o the directory?

    AIR has been committed to pursuingdevelopment activities in Haitis education

    sector since 2003. This directory wasdeveloped as a direct response to ormer U.S.President Bill Clintons call or increasedinormation on, and coordination o, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) workingin Haiti. The purpose o the directory isto identiy organizations that are currentlyactive in supporting primary and secondaryeducation and school-based health activitiesto 1) help promote and encourage privatesector support to the education sector; 2) link

    donors, the Haitian Diaspora, and the privatesector to local Haitian organizations workingto improve education; and 3) help to improvethe coordination o education supportactivities in Haiti.

    What are the criteria or organizationsto be listed, and is there the opportunityto add more?

    The directory identies international andHaitian NGOs, oundations, and associations

    that are currently active in supportingprimary and secondary education and school-based health activities, including educationor out-o-school children. The directoryocuses on organizations with medium- tolarge-scale impact. The directory does notinclude organizations conducting importantbut small-scale activities benetting less than100 children, excepting scholarship activities,which may oer great benet to perhapsewer children.

    AIR intends to update and expand thedirectory on an on-going basis, and welcomessuggestions or additional organizationsto be included. Currently, the directoryincludes international and Haitian NGOs,oundations, and associations workingnationwide and/or in the urban areas oPort-au-Prince, Gonaves, Cap-Hatien,St. Marc, Les Cayes, and Petit-Gove.

    How was data collected?AIR worked in partnership with a localHaitian rm to gather inormation rom theorganizations through in-person interviews,phone and email communications, andweb-based research.

AIR served as prime implementer o theUSAID-unded EQUIP1 program which initiated a large-scale scholarship program in an eort to help amiliesmitigate the economic barriers to their childrens education,and at the same time improve the quality o the countrysprivate schools. The program also added a specic ocus onbuilding the Ministry o National Education and VocationalTrainings (MENFP) capacity to regulate and oversee privatesector education, through the process o licensing privateschools.
