Did You Know?

There are estimated 2.5 million people in the UK with speech

and language communication

needs.

There are over half million learners in FE who have declared a

disability.

Between 6 and 8% of learners use

assistive technology

Almost 2 million people in the UK

are living with sight loss

More than one child per class 400,000

children is severely dyslexic.

Changes to courses and delivery may include:

Core teaching and learning resources are produced for all audiences and available in digital formats Consistent use of VLE Assistive technology is widely available Free software is accepted Move towards active learning/ proactive leaner centredTime to research and experiment with new teaching strategies and evaluate the benefits

Adjustment are expected and relevantBy being proactive and anticipating the generality of student needs by making sure that routine practice is as ready as possible for a diverse student population, including disabled students.Learning from the students we already have (receiving feedback) Thinking ahead to all teaching and learning contexts relevant to the course requirements (Work Placements, field trips etc.)

Partnership A range of learner's including disabled learners work with developers and teaching staff to discuss and develop good practice.

The Online Accessibility Self Evaluation Service (OASES) allows you to benchmark your organisation's accessibility practices to widely accepted 'reasonable adjustment' recommendations as well as the practice within other institutions.To access the surveys and videos
