To determine the surface area of prisms find the area of each side

To determine the volume of prisms use the formula

Volume of a Prism: V = B x hB = Area of base

h = height

Surface Area & Volume of Prisms

Example 1: Find the surface area of the

following prism.

Area of Top & Bottom

A = 2(l x w)

A = 2(3 x 4)

A = 24 cm2

Area of Sides

A = 2(l x w)

A = 2(4 x 12)

A = 96 cm2

Area of Front & Back

A = 2(l x w)

A = 2(3 x 12)A = 72 cm2

Surface Area & Volume of Prisms

Area of Rectangular Prism

Add up the areas of all the sides

A = 72 + 24 + 96

A = 192 cm2

A = 6 m2
