With the success of previous flatfoot courses,ACFAS will be offering this course again in 2009.Lectures with an emphasis on indications and tech-nical pearls will be enhanced with panel discussionsand video presentations.

Participants will reconstruct a flatfoot in a stepwisefashion over the length of the course. Various sur-

gical approaches will be experienced through your selection of procedures aswell as through assisting your lab partner with their choice of procedures. Adiverse faculty will provide technical guidance through differing approaches tocompleting various procedures. Each participant will have their own cadavericlimb and be encouraged to participate in fireside case presentations and thepanel discussions.

Many of the procedures may have been presented in other courses; it is our goalto focus their use in addressing the adult flatfoot. With this theme, it will allowthe surgeon to come away with a fresh approach to the surgical management ofthe flatfoot and provide an opportunity to see the various thought processesused by the faculty in addressing this condition.

There will be extended dissection time and more of a round-robin approachwith faculty rotating to different stations on a frequent basis to provide anunderstanding of the differing philosophical approaches to this group of patients.Approachable faculty, interactive, very directed learning experience. (One cadaverper registrant.)

OBJECTIVES:

Be knowledgeable of complicated topics and current treatment trends of theadult flatfoot deformity.

Be knowledgeable in contemporary techniques utilized to address problemsassociated with flatfoot deformities, beginning with staging and evaluation of the PTTD Flatfoot.

Be able to perform reconstructive procedures approach to stage 1 PTTD andaddress the dilemma of stage 2 PTTD.

Receive comprehensive experience with controversies surrounding calcanealosteotomies.

Refine a philosophy for procedure selection for treating flatfoot deformities with varying clinical characteristics.

Be familiar with more reconstruction vs. isolated fusion, which joint to fuse, what works and what doesn’t.
