Our vision

With roots dating back to 1782, Sworders has a long history.

Founded by George Edward Sworder in 1843, Sworders has become synonymous with high quality professional property advice. In 1879 George took his three sons into the partnership, and the business became known as G.E. Sworder & Sons.

On George’s death in March 1884, the Herts & Essex Observer described the firm as “a household name for all that was honest, upright and straightforward”. The team

In the late 1980s G.E. Sworder & Sons was divided into five separate parts and our current business was re-opened by Angus Hudson and Vernon Muskett who started trading on 1st December 1989. In 1997 the business moved from Bishop’s Stortford to Hadham Hall and since that time has grown in scale and diversity and now includes offices in Warwickshire and Norfolk.

STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT We are experts in providing strategic planning advice to landowners and have achieved allocations for tens of thousands of dwellings

across the country. This includes the direct promotion of sites through the Local Plan process, collaboration and consortium agreements, securing third party promoters and obtaining consent for residential and commercial development. PLANNING, ARCHITECTURAL AND BUILDING SERVICES Our planning team advise on residential, commercial and agricultural planning, diversification and development. This includes

policy advice, new development, change of use, permitted development, enforcement and appeals.

We have the knowledge, gained through private practice and from within Local Authorities, to provide realistic advice and create achievable solutions in challenging cases. Our extensive experience enables us to successfully navigate the complexity of the ever changing planning system.

Our architectural and design team provide the necessary in-house technical work to augment our planning applications and appeals together with advising on post-planning building processes.

SPECIALIST DISPOSALS AND ACQUISITIONSOur knowledge and experience of the property market and factors affecting the properties themselves enable us to provide a specialist service in the sale, purchase and leasing of property. We have established a reputation for selling and adding value to unique properties that are often difficult to present to the market in a way that will allow their sale at the most advantageous price. Whether a rural estate, farm, land of any type, development site, residential or commercial property, we are able to provide the specialist service required to achieve the best result.
