SURYADATTA COLLEGE OF HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT AND TRAVEL TOURISM, BAVDHAN, PUNEREPORT ON SPECIAL WINTER CAMP of NSS (National Service Scheme)

12th to 18th JANUARY 2018Village – Bhugaon, Tal – Mulshi, Dist – Pune

National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced by the Savitribai Phule Pune University in 1969. Since then ithas been playing a vital role in enriching the souls and minds of the students of the university. The overallobjective of this scheme is ‘Education and Service’ to the community and by the community. It is aprogramme for students to cater to the needs of the community, as and when required. The students joiningthis scheme develop many behavioral interactive skills. They visit the rural areas as NSS volunteers during thecamps organized by the concerned colleges or departments of the university. Thus the ultimate goal of thescheme is to strive to inculcate the bond of patriotism, national integration, brotherhood, communalharmony among these volunteers.

The NSS Wing of Suryadatta College of Hospitality Management and Travel Tourism (SCHMTT) Bavdhan, Puneconducted a seven days Special residential winter camp at Bhugaon Village. The Camp started on 12th January2018 and ended on 18th January 2018.

Team of 25 students from SCHMTT respectively was part of the camp. The faculty responsible was Prof.Ulhas Chaudhari and Prof. Chetan Mungantiwar.

The Camp was conducted as per guidelines given by the National Service Scheme department of SPPU, Pune.

The activities carried out were as per the program given by SPPU, Pune

On the first day in the afternoon the student’s clean Gram panchayat premises (top floor) and later makeposters on road safety. In the evening 4pm to 6pm students displayed the road safety posters on the highway which passes through the village and connect to Mulshi.

Second day in the morning NSS volunteers (students and faculty) clean all the road side plastic and createawareness of plastic free village.

The next day the NSS volunteers (faculty and students) went to the old temple on the hillside near the Lakeand cleaned the temple and lake side. They collected all the plastic and garbage and disposed it.

Other programs conducted during the Camp were- rally on “Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao” (Save the girl child-Educate the girl Child), “Save Water”, “Shivaji Maharaj Shiv Vandana awareness”, Coloring of stones as roadmarking on the main road. Cleaning Public places, “Plastic Mukt Gaon Abhiyan” (A plastic free villagecampaign), Cleaning of Maharashtra kesri Ground along with the village people and painting of plants in theSchool ground and in front of gram panchayat.

NSS volunteers take classes in government school creating awareness on how to use Internet for bettermentof their academic studies, awareness on nasha mukti, and communication skills.

During this seven day Camp the students and faculty stayed at Bhugaon Zilha Parishad building. The studentswoke up early each morning, exercised and learnt to be responsible for themselves and the Society.

It was a great experience for the student to attend the saptha at the main temple of the village everyevening.

The Gram panchayat appreciated the good work of the NSS volunteers and faculty.

This camp brought great happiness to the students as they had contributed willingly for the betterment ofthe society.
