Denver, CO (November 2st, 2010)The students at The University of Colorado Denver are gearing up for their semi-annual Sustainability Fair. The Sustainability Fair will be held on November 10th, 2010 on Auraria Campus grounds from 10am-4pm. This year’s slogan is “Educate and Motivate.” The main goal of the fair is to educate students and members of the community on the basics of sustainability. With over 40 exhibitors and 8 different workshops, the Sustainability Fair will capture the essence of “being green” and show you how to bring it into your everyday life.

Attendees Get A First Look At Sustainable LivingThe Sustainability Fair will house eight different workshops, each demonstrating ways to be sustainable. The workshops range from backyard beekeeping and creating your own cleaning products, to composting and learning how to spot green-washing. There are also over forty exhibitors, which will include solar oven baked cookies, green jobs, cell-phone and CD recycling, sustainable coffee blends, and much more. Accompanying these exhibits will be live music and break dancers throughout the day. Elementary students from various Denver schools will also be in attendance to learn the basics of sustainability.

As Co-Organizer Shirley Bednarski states:“New to our fair is the addition of having young children participate as part of school field trips. We believe that education of our younger generations is important to ensuring a sustainable future.” Fair Helps Out In More Ways Than OneThis year the Sustainability Fair is holding a joint canned food drive and raffle. Bring a canned food item with you to the fair and you will be entered into the sustainability raffle. The prize includes a sustainable gift basket from local businesses around Denver. The bigger prize however is the collected canned food, which will be donated to students in need on Auraria Campus.

About The Sustainability FairThe Auraria Campus Sustainability Fair is a student-run fair, in partnership with the UC-Denver Sustainability Program, the Colorado Public Interest Research Group (CoPIRG), the Sustainable Campus Program (SCP) and other Auraria campus groups. Our aim in having the fair is to create awareness, to educate, and to motivate students and visitors of the Auraria campus to sustainability issues locally to globally. We do this by inviting local groups and organizations who represent one or more of the three components of sustainability: social, economic, and environmental. Our participants have informational booths, petitions, demonstrations, and other materials that interest visitors and motivate them to think about local to global issues. To learn more visit: www.sustainucd.org or visit us on Facebook at Auraria Campus Sustainability Fair.
