SUPPLIER ASSESSMENT
At BVCPL we have championed Social and Environmental re-
sponsibility by developing strategies and policies aligning with
the Company’s sustainable vision. Including this in our supply
chain agenda, we have formulated procurement guidelines that
require us to audit new suppliers based on Environment, health ,
safety , Ethics parameters before bringing them on board.
We have developed one of the important policies to vouch for sustainable procurement -
“Sustainable Procurement Policy” .These policies highlight our expectations on critical sus-
tainability performance parameters such as health and safety, human rights, integrity, and envi-
ronmental sustainability to name a few. The policies have been created in accordance with in-
ternational benchmarks and best practices
Sustainable Procurement Policy:
To align with our sustainability commitment, we have developed a Sustainable Procurement
Policy ,which is an extension of our values; applicable to all our suppliers. We expect our sup-
pliers to operate in accordance with the principles as outlined in this Policy , while adhering to
all applicable laws and regulations.
In the policy, we go beyond legal compliance requirements by drawing upon internationally
recognised standards in order to identify and define best practices from across the globe. The
policy outlines our expectations with regards to ethics, business integrity, human rights, health
& safety, environment, the local community, quality of product & operations, human rights as-
pects like collective bargaining, child labour, forced labour and other parameters. We periodi-
cally review our procurement policy for improvement and to ensure that it continues to help us
move towards our vision.
Supplier Assessment Methodology:
We have been striving hard to bring about robust policies in place
to assess our suppliers based on sustainability criteria. In line
with the key policies, we have designed an extensive question-
naire with all our suppliers to help us assess their sustainability.
The questionnaire evaluates the supplier based on four different
parameters such as Degree of compliance to ethics and legal re-
quirements, Supplier’s management maturity, Supplier’s level of
Environment, Health and Safety Performance.
Key Results of the Supplier Survey:

isation providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, dis-
close, manage and share vital environmental information. Through CDP we
demonstrate BVCPL’s commitment to action relating to carbon emissions reduc-
tion, both in theory and in practice.
We aim to communicate our strategic direction, motivation, goals, development
and progress relating to sustainability with our stakeholders in a transparent way.
As part of our CDP Climate Change and water submission, we report annually on
greenhouse gas emissions, energy use and the risks and opportunities associated
with climate change. Since we began participating in CDP Climate Change in
2017, we have disclosed our greenhouse gas emissions and water criteria every
year, in addition to our reduction strategy and performance for both the investor
and supply chain surveys.
In 2019, we have scored a C for Climate Change Performance and B– for the Wa-
ter Criteria which is better performance compared to Industry Average and one lev-
el higher than what we have achieved in 2018 Assessment.

In the Chemical Industry, waste management is an extremely prudent aspect. At BVCPL,
we have developed a robust waste management framework to meet with the sustainabil-
ity challenges of the chemical industry. Waste Reduction is a key aspect of our climate
change mitigation agenda; all our material use and manufacturing processes are conduct-
ed in a conscious manner to yield minimal waste. Following the concepts of Reduce, Re-
use and Recycle, we go beyond compliance in ensuring effective waste management.
The waste generated from our facilities is well within the permissible limits required by
local, regional and national norms.
Our waste management strategy includes collection, segregation, management and dis-
posal. We have an in-house effluent treatment plant (ETP) to treat waste water generated
at our facilities. The biological and chemical sludge generated from the ETP disposed off
in Landfilling.
Identified and recognized the waste stream of the product which have good calorific val-
ue with less carbon emission. This grade of waste stream is disposed to cement industries
where it is utilized as fuel in cement kiln after co-processing at government authorized
co-processor
In 2019-20, a total of 1087.24 MT of waste was sent for co-processing considering both the
Facilities which was 207 % higher than last years value of 312.935 MT.
Likewise, a total of 253.2 MT of waste was sent for land filling Considering both the Fa-

SUCCESS STORIES - PROCESS WASTE RECYCLE
We continue to intensify our efforts to identify our waste -recycling opportuni-
ties. In two of our Fragrance Ingredients (Salicylic Acid Esters) called Amyl
Salicylate and Hexyl Salicylate reaction process , identified the water waste
stream line process which is recycled back to the process. Considering both the
product together , Around 421 KL/ Year of Waste water continuously recycled
back into the process.
Recognized the key composition in Aqueous waste from Melonal and separated
out the water and salt through distillation technique. Water is recycled back to
the process and salt is sold to Authorized end user. By this way 1071 KL/Year
water is distiiled out recovered and recycled back into the process.
In 2019-20 , Putting all the above implementation together, around 1492 KL/
Year waste water stream recycled back to the respective reaction

Effluent Management is an integral aspect of our sustainable waste management
strategy. Aligned with our vision to build a water positive enterprise, we work
relentlessly to minimise effluents and maximise recycling and reusing activities
within our facilities.
We continually monitor, review and manage our effluent performance to find
gaps in the system. To manage effluents generated from our facilities, we have
put in place an effluent treatment plant. Our effluent management strategy has
helped us reduce impact on water resources near our operational areas.
We have an in-house effluent treatment plant (ETP) to treat waste water generat-
ed at our facilities. The biological and chemical sludge generated from the ETP is
then disposed off in Landfilling.
Combine Capacity of ETP plant of both the Manufacturing Facility is 6300 KL/
Year which include 4500 KL / Y for Unit I and 1800 KL/Y for another Unit.
In 2019-20, we have treated 5246 KL of Effluent and discharged into common
Effluent Treatment Facility which was 9.6 % higher than the previous year treat-
ed effluent qty of 4786 KL.
In order to recycle the domestic water, we have installed STP (Sewage Treatment
Plant) at our manufacturing facility. It includes biological processes to remove pol-
lutants. Its aim is to produce an environmentally safe sewage water, called effluent,
and a solid waste, called sludge or biosolids, suitable for disposal or reuse
Water from the admin buildings, toilets, baths, showers, canteens, sinks and col-
lected first in Collection tank and treated well in STP plant.
Treated water from the STP Recycled back and reused in the toilets blocks and gar-
dening purpose. This led to the reduction in water consumption of 1736 KL in
2019-20.

EMISSIONS - Scope 1 & 2
At BVCPL , we recognise the importance of emission manage-ment in the chemical industry, making it a key material aspect to our business . We are the signatories to “Responsible Care” and thereby making our commitment public. We have also report-ed fully for the third time our carbon emissions via the Carbon Discloser Project.
Over the past five years, we have better understood the difficulty in achieving year on- year energy reductions and Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions savings. Our best opportunities for further improvements are through increased efficiency and fuel use changes, and we will focus on these areas in the coming years. We will also install new technology to identify potential savings and explore new technolo-gies to achieve our goals.
Our sustainability vision and our continual efforts have helped us reduce a con-siderable amount of emissions. To manage our carbon impact and achieve our emission reduction goals, we have strategized a plethora of measures including interventions such as replacing fossil fuel with biomass in boilers, utilisation of pitch in boilers to enable the reuse of organic waste as fuel and many more. In 2017, we started to report our CO2 emissions for both scope 1(direct energy) and Scope 2(Indirect energy) from purchased electricity), Additionally , during 2017 , we started a project to screen our significant Scope 3 emissions( broad scope of upstream and downstream emissions). During 2019, our CO2 emissions (Scope 1 & 2) in Tonnes per tonne of produc-tion reduced 0.09 % for Scope 1 and 7.61 % for Scope 2 from the prior year .

EMISSIONS– Scope 3
Understanding our Scope 3 Green House gas Emissions (GHGs) Scope 3 GHS emissions are much broader than Scope 1 and 2 and can include anything from employee travel to “upstream” emissions, embodied in the products we purchase and process, and : downstream” emissions, which are associated with trans-porting and disposing of the products we sell. Since 2017, we have initiated reporting Scope 3 emissions along-with Scope a and 2 under CDP. Assessment of Scope 3 emissions done based on the GHG Protocol and then disclosed in CDP plateform. To understand our critical Scope 3 emissions, we calculated annu-al emissions (from 1st April 2019 to 30th March 2020) from a range of upstream Scope 3 Activities, including:
• Downstream Transportation and distribution (Sold Product) • Upstream Transportation and distribution (Purchased Goods) • Business Travel • Employee Commuting The downstream Scope 3 activities such as waste generated within operations, were excluded from the assessment (for reason of practicality and resources) but may be included in future evalua-tions.
Our total Scope 3 emissions for the period FY19-20 were calculated at 25,28,766 tonnes of CO2, which is as usual greater than our Scope 1 and 2 emis-sions combined( for the same period) .Emissions from the Downstream Trans-portation and Distribution accounted for approximately 67.04 % of total Scope 3 Emissions whereas emissions from Upstream transportation contributing 32.95 %Contribution of the Emissions from the Business Travel and Employee Commut-ing is very minor which was 0.001 % and 0.002 respectively. A summary of the main Scope 3 emissions in shown below.

Intervention :- Earlier, we were using Water + Steam jet Ejector, where we were consuming 45 Kgs/hr/system of steam. We have introduced the Dry Vacuum Pump in-stead of conventional Vacuum system, which is run by Electric Power.
Impact :- There is steam saving 90Kgs/hr i.e 960 Kg/day Steam which makes Briquet saving of 12000 Kgs/month. It lead to the total reduction in carbon emission of 14,900 Kgs per month. Also there is no steam in process, so we do not have to withdraw water for generation of Steam and hence there lesser water drawing from Ground which makes water saving by 80 KL/Month. Another Environment Friendly installation we have made was Close loop vacuum system (InDirect Steam) instead of Direct steam Ejector, so conden-sate is recycled back into the system and recover the Energy of Condensate & also required to withdraw less ground water. This is having positive impact on the environment with the water saving of 12 KL/ month and 1700 Kgs less carbon emissions.

At BVCPL, we apply green chemistry principles to
all of our chemical transformations. The use of
Green Chemistry principles is an essential part of
our process-development activities. We have placed particular focus on princi-
ple of Green chemistry , covering catalysis . As a means of achieving lower en-
ergy requirements, reduced waste and other benefits, this principle is particu-
larly important because it touches on several other principles of green chemis-
try.
We continue to invest in areas such as catalytic chemistry organo—inorgano
and metalo or in combination to devise cleaner processes. To better manage
our overall environmental impacts, we have established couple of environ-
ment friendly , recyclable green catalyst for some of our salicylates group
products.
A tangible benefit achieved last year which allowed us to reduce the waste by
0.06 tonnes/ tonnes to 0.022 tonnes / tonnes of production of salicylates
which end up with the waste reduction of 63 % from this product stream.
SUCCESS STORIES - SUSTAINABLE PROCESS & SOURCING
Renewable Sourcing Green Chemistry
We use approximately 03 different sustainably-produced raw materials each
year to produce our renewable products at our manufacturing premises. Pro-
portions of individual raw materials in selected product portfolio vary from
year to year, depending on their availability, price, and specific market re-
quirements. These three renewable raw material consist of Iso Amyl Alcohol ,
C-6 Alcohol and Methyl THF.
The 2-methyl tetrahydrofuran made from renewable agricultural by-products
from corn cob waste by converting the available pentoses by acid hydrolysis
which makes 2-Methyl THF a renewable one. Iso Amyl alcohol we use orig-
inated from the Fossil Oil / Molasses and the source of Palm oil / Coconut
oil makes C-6 Alcohol a perfect renewable raw material.
In FY 2019-20, around 6.83% of the raw materials we purchased worldwide
were from renewable resources which includes 1186 tonnes of C-6 , 10.88
tonnes of Methyl THF and 186 tonnes of Iso Amyl Alcohol.
