SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Delivering Transformation. Together.

2 Writing a new commitment to the environment

Objectives of the groupSopra Steria, the European leader in digital transformation, has taken into account the environmental dimension in its approach to corporate responsibility, and over the past few years has set up a programme of actions to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and limit the environmental impact of its activities.Within this framework the group is working to reduce the energy consumption of its premises, information technology infrastructure and business travel. Moreover, Sopra Steria continues its commitment towards the preservation of and access to water by supporting partnerships with international organisations working in this field.

ApproachThe group has specifically chosen to limit its greenhouse gas emissions and to be carbon-neutral for its Data Centres and for its business travel. To implement its programme of actions, Sopra Steria has developed tools and has deepened its understanding of the environmental impact of its activities. With this experience and knowledge, the group is equipped to propose offers and services to its customers to assist them in their own environmental approach.

Digital transformation to serve energy efficiency Sopra Steria contributes to reducing the environmental footprint of its customers, in particular by proposing Smart Energy Management solutions. In the various projects that it has carried out, Sopra Steria has helped its customers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and better control their demand for energy. The group works in collaboration with energy operators to provide its customers with innovative solutions such as «Smart Home» and «Smart Building», which aim to equip new individual or collective buildings with the means to manage their energy consumption.

Sopra Steria and climate change

Sopra Steria is committed to a policy of proactive environmental responsibility in harmony with the economic demands of its operations.

3Writing a new commitment to the environment

Controlling energy consumption and supporting our customers in their environmental approach

Smart MeterFor various customers in the energy sector, Sopra Steria contributes to the development of intelligent solutions for controlling consumer energy demand. Sopra Steria supports the deployment of networked smart meters in the domestic market of electricity and gas operators in France. These meters allow the end consumers to control their energy consumption better and thereby moderate their demand on suppliers.

Smart HomeIn the context of its work on energy management in housing, Sopra Steria offers digital solutions to its real estate and energy customers that allow them to address energy efficiency challenges.

Smart BuildingFor commercial buildings, the group has developed a solution for improving energy performance in conjunction with user comfort (temperature, air quality).

Smart Grid - Smart CitySopra Steria is a member of a consortium aiming to develop a neighbourhood power grid that optimises energy consumption at the level of a district or a city. This has given birth to IssyGrid®, the first district smart grid in France, set up at Issy-les-Moulineaux. It heralds a new way of optimising energy management in the districts and cities of tomorrow.

Even though digital technology has already transformed the way in which we live, it continues to progress, supporting a more sustainable world. Sopra Steria offers solutions and services for an economy with a low carbon footprint.

Positive-energy offices controlled by the SI@GO® solutionGreen Office® Meudon is a positive-energy building. It produces 100% renewable energy (co-generation using biomass and solar panels).Sopra Steria, its occupant since July 2011, is one of the pioneers anticipating the RT 2020* heating regulations. All of the energy production and consumption in the building is controlled by the SI@GO® energy management solution developed by Sopra Steria. This building is certified HQE® Exploitation.

Recovery of excess heat and eco intelligent-coolingIn Sweden, Sopra Steria’s Stockholm office is located in a green building equipped with the latest technological innovations in energy efficiency: the Kungsbrohuset.Built in 2010, this building is heated by the body heat of the 250,000 passengers who pass through the nearby central station every day. And for cooling the building, an eco-intelligent system uses water from the Klara Sjö canal.

*RT 2020: Réglementation Thermique, 2020 Thermal Regulation

Applying environmental commitments to the selection of offices

For its offices, Sopra Steria’s policy is to favour buildings with a low energy consumption. Several of the group’s premises benefit from new environmental standards, whilst others innovate and anticipate future regulations.

CONTROLLING ENERGY AND RESOURCESSopra Steria optimises its property portfolio and favours buildings that comply with the BBC (Low Consumption Building) and HQE® (High Environmental Quality) standards.

‘‘In an extension of these initiatives, carbon offsetting allows us to strengthen our commitments and go further along the path to achieving carbon-neutrality. For this we base ourselves on the CarbonNeutral® protocol from Natural Capital Partners’’, stated Siva NIRANJAN, Sopra Steria’s Head of Environmental Sustainability.

Sopra Steria first to adopt PowerPlus™In 2015, Sopra Steria became the first company to implement PowerPlusTM, the reference solution in the clean energy market that enables it to become involved in the production of renewable energy, essential for the «decarbonisation» of the local power grid. Through this innovative system, Sopra Steria invests in renewable energy produced in India for its Data Centres in Chennai and Pune as part of its carbon offset programme for its Data Centres.

Data Centres certified CarbonNeutral®

CARBONNEUTRAL® DATA CENTRESIn 2014, 57% of the energy used by Sopra Steria’s data centres came from renewable sources. All of the Group’s Data Centres are certified CarbonNeutral®.

Sopra Steria achieved carbon-neutral certification for its Data Centres, over its entire scope

Pooling, modernisation, server virtualisation and the use of renewable energy are all initiatives that enable us to diminish the carbon impact of our data centres. In 2014, the Group reduced the carbon impact of its data centres by 8,221 tCO2e by doing these things.

6 Writing a new commitment to the environment

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from business travelSopra Steria has introduced the means to limit emissions from business travel and the incentives to do so:• introduction of video conferencing equipment at most

sites to displace business travel, especially by air;• incentives in favour of the least-polluting

forms of transport, especially for short trips or regular customer visits;

• awareness and support campaigns for the changes made that concern all employees;

• in Germany, Sopra Steria has completely rethought its transport policy. It has subscribed to a railway operator’s Green Energy programme that ensures that the energy consumed by its employees’ journeys comes from renewable sources. As a result, 92% of journeys made by employees of the group in Germany are carbon neutral.

Sustainable business travel

CARBON OFFSETTING FOR ALL OF THE GROUP’S BUSINESS TRAVELTo mitigate the impact of the carbon emissions of its business travel by offsetting them, Sopra Steria funds projects that preserve natural resources or develop the use of renewable energy.

Sopra Steria contributes to wind farm projects in the north and south of India and in the introduction of water turbines to generate electricity in northwest China.

Selective sorting and waste recovery during recyclingThe selective sorting of paper for recycling is already in place on most sites. In addition, printer cartridges and toner, plastic bottles, cans, glass and used batteries are separated for recycling on many sites. In 2014, 100% of the waste recovered from all of the sites that Sopra Steria manages in the UK was recycled. The success of the «Zero waste to landfill» programme is the result of four years of commitment, employees’ awareness, adoption of new recycling methods and development of equipment reuse. For computer equipment, several forms of recycling are possible: recycling of equipment, spare parts or materials. Sopra Steria sends redundant equipment - WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) - to specialist service providers that remove data securely from it before assessing its marketability. Marketable equipment is sold or made available to charities or community groups for re-use. Non-marketable equipment is broken up into its component parts or materials for recycling. In 2014, the group collected more than 38 tonnes of WEEE, of which over 64% was sold recycled and/or resold.

Sorting and recycling give a second life to our waste

CLOSED-LOOP PAPER RECYCLING, A FIRST STEP TOWARDS CIRCULAR ECONOMYIn the UK, all of the paper used at one of Sopra Steria’s sites is recycled and reused in a closed-loop process. The recycling process, which excludes all chemical products, is based on a solution that is certified to the COSHH standard (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

A responsible purchasing process based on best market practicesSopra Steria is particularly attentive to the issues of responsible purchasing. Its policy in this respect is based on:• a Charter of Responsible Purchasing, which sets out the

fundamental principles of fairness and transparency in its purchasing activity, and which is an annex to all contracts.

• assessment of its suppliers’ CSR by Ecovadis. As of 2015, this programme is being progressively deployed at group level.

Responsible purchasing engaging suppliers in climate change

MANAGING RISKSThanks to the Ecovadis programme, Sopra Steria is managing the risks that Climate Change poses to its supply chain. Sopra Steria expects its main suppliers to measure their carbon footprints and take steps to manage them.

Ocean and Climate Change: the Pax Arctica expeditionAt the end of 2014, Sopra Group Steria supported the Antarctic expedition of Luc Hardy, Vice-President of Green Cross France. The scientific objective of the expedition, in collaboration with the CNRS, was to study the long-term impact of climate change on the ocean. It deployed 11 remote-detection Argo* buoys, which measure currents, salinity and temperature. The data collected, forwarded via satellite, are made available to the scientific community and Green Cross’s «Water and Oceans» programme. The expedition, from Ushuaia to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, was an exceptional adventure of endurance, 100 years after the explorer Ernest Shackleton’s epic quest.

* Argo is an international ocean observation programme.

Supplying drinking water to 2,000 people with 1001fontainesSopra Steria financed the establishment of a water production plant in a region of Madagascar devoid of any water supply network. Under the approach proven by 1001fontaines, the running of the plant is assigned to a local operator who charges a very low price. The operator’s profits support the maintenance of the plant, thus ensuring the sustainability of the system. The plant that Sopra Steria has funded is expected to supply drinking water to about 2,000 people.

Water, a vital and irreplaceable resource

Sopra Steria is committed to a major humanitarian programme, the right to water. As part of this the Group supports major projects from Green Cross, 1001fontaines and Planet Water Foundation. In addition, the group has obtained the «Water Benefit Gold Standard» certification to finance a drinking water project in India.

’’By reaching this archipelago in Antarctica, extremely difficult to access, we have been able to observe and document hitherto little-known phenomena, thus allowing us to understand better the impact of climate change on the ocean and the need to act to counter its effects’’. LUC HARDY, EXPLORER, VICE-PRESIDENT OF GREEN CROSS IN FRANCE AND PRESIDENT OF PAX ARCTICA

Sopra Steria is supporting the NGO TCHAPE’s COP21 projectThe NGO TCHAPE works on the protection of the environment, access to drinking water and schooling for soldier children in Africa. Its COP 21 project highlights the environmental dimension of the survival of native nomad populations or refugees around Lake Chad, the level of which has dropped by 90% since 1998. The objective is to set up a farming and reforestation project in the Wadi Djeddi and El Khiezi areas where these people live. The project will provide them with water and help to improve their level of food self-sufficiency, while also raising their awareness of education for children, particularly young girls.

Providing access to clean water with Planet Water FoundationIn 2015 the group launched the Aqua Water Tower project at the Ganage Junior College in Pune (India), in partnership with Planet Water Foundation (PWF). Its objective is to provide drinking water to more than 4,000 children at the school supported by the group. The Aqua Tower system uses «ultrafiltration» water purification technology that requires very little maintenance. PWF has provided training in the use and maintenance of this system to certain members of school staff as well as to employees of the Sopra Steria group in India who are involved in this project.

Solar panels to promote digital inclusionThanks to a programme of solidarity leave in India, the group supports the deployment of solar panels for powering computer labs at schools that the group sponsors, in areas where the availability of electrical power and access to digital technology constitute real challenges for underprivileged youngsters. In this way, Sopra Steria employees, in particular those working in the Energy and Utilities sectors, make use of their skills within the framework of the volunteer leave program. Today, 9 schools are equipped with solar panels and others will join them soon.

Water, energy and education: acting for future generations

THE COMMITMENT TO WATER APPLIED TO EDUCATION Building on solidarity programmes already undertaken by the group for schools in India, Sopra Steria is working with Planet Water Foundation to provide access to drinking water for schoolchildren.
