Meet the Presenters: Jessica Bloom: Award winning landscape designer
Jessica Bloom, is a Certified Professional Horticul-
turalist and ISA Certified Arborist who strongly
emphasizes ecological systems, sustainability and
self-sufficiency in her work. She is passionate about
animals, permaculture and making functional gar-
dens beautiful! She is also best-selling author of
Free Range Chicken Gardens (Timber Press, 2012)
and co-author of The Wetland Handbook: A Community Guide to Growing
Native Plants (King Conservation District, 1998) and her brand new book
Practical Permaculture Design (Timber Press, Jan 2015) As the lead de-
signer and owner of Pacific Northwest based landscape design firm N.W.
Bloom – EcoLogical Landscapes, Jessica has built many popular display
gardens at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show, winning Gold Medals,
the People’s Choice award as well as media awards. Other significant
awards include the 2008 Governor’s Award from the WA State Department
of Ecology for sustainable practices and the Environmental Excellence
Award from WA St Nursery & Landscape Association and most recently a
Grand Award from WALP for community service!

“Designing our Future: Introduction to Sustainable Landscape
Principles, Practices, & Design for the Landscape Professional”
The fastest growing sector of the landscape industry
is providing “green” services that minimize
chemical use and water waste, and maximize plant
health and efficient resource use. Landscape
professionals are invited to attend this free workshop
and learn how you can offer services that meet a
growing interest in natural yard care.
Everett Chu: Besides being a garden designer for
“nature-inspired” gardens, Everett is also a landscape
design/build contractor with fulltime, year-round
crew, responsible for the creation of hundreds of
sustainable, low-maintenance landscapes throughout
Skagit County. He is the owner and operator of
Azusa Farm and Garden, and one of our resident
Master Gardener experts focusing on the promotion
of rain gardens, including the design and construction of a demonstration
rain garden in the 2014 SICBA Home and Garden Show and a wine garden
for WSNLA that was featured in the 2015 Northwest Flower and Garden
Show. He serves on the steering committee for the ecoPRO-certification
program, jointly administered by WSNLA and WALP. Everett is a local
Certified Professional Horticulturalist and a Certified ecoPRO-Sustainable
Landscape Professional.
Ian Horton: Local architect and consultant, Ian
Horton, is the owner of Working Landscapes, PLLC,
providing landscape architectural and irrigation design
services with an emphasis on sustainable technologies
and techniques. Ian specializes in providing full design
services for bioretention landscapes, rainwater harvest-
ing and irrigation systems, and enjoys working with
community groups to create beneficial landscapes,
including gardens, playgrounds, and trails. Ian is a Professional Landscape
Architect and EcoPRO Certified Landscape Professional.
