Sustainable Lifestyle Home - Design & Resource Center for

Unique Home Products

Sustainable Lifestyle Home is the brainchild of the CEO and owner of ICM/InterContinental

Marble Corporation. ICM is the largest importer of stone slabs that are cut into many different

sizes of fireplace surrounds for the fireplace industry. During the years of the recent housing

crisis, the idea for Sustainable Lifestyle Home (SLH) was born.

Sustainable Lifestyle Home is a new showroom in Marietta, Georgia which houses the largest

fireplace showroom in the United States. These 75 displays of fireplaces also incorporate

beautiful firepits, outdoor fireplaces and outdoor kitchens. This impressive showroom has also

the largest library of Natural Stone Thin Veneers which can be used for interior or exterior walls

and flooring, all from the United States in an effort to promote United States products. These

400 stones or more are all available in either dimensional stone or thin cut stone which requires

no foundational support, meaning they can be installed much faster then 3-5” dimensional

stone but giving the same exact effect using 3/4 - 1 1/2” stone thin cut stones.

This new showroom went a step further

with the concept of sustainable products

and showcases many Reclaimed Products

such as Hardwood Flooring from

Kentucky in Pine and Oak Wide Plank,

Reclaimed Dining Room Furniture made

by hand, Benchmade Beds and Bedroom

Furniture from California and then there

is a separate division for interior

products. Handmade rugs which may

take up to one full year to produce can

be found in both traditional and contemporary styles in rich fibers such as New Zealand Wool,

Cotton, Jute and other natural fibers. Then Luxury LInens from Europe in Organic Cottons and

Linen and Blend Fabrics are available as well as the largest selection of Custom Drapes and

Ready Made Drapes to be found in Atlanta. The drapes are in wonderful natural sustainable

fabrics in Organic Linen, Cotton, Silk, and Jute. Finally, handmade headboards are also available

in twelve different designs and a myriad of fabrics, custom made by a local seamstress. If you

are looking for monogrammed luxury towels by firms such as Peacock Alley and Matouk you

have come to the right place in addition to bath robes, bath sheets and a huge selection of bath

rugs which can also be monogrammed for that special personal touch. Then let’s not forget

luxury sheets meant to create an amazing sleep experience with only the best fabrics from

Europe.

The entire concept of Sustainable Lifestyle is to

choose sustainable products for the home

which will in fact last your lifetime and then

your children’s lifetime as heirloom products in

your home. The owner purchased a very old

cottage in the outskirts of Paris, France many

years ago, and was intrigued by the concept of

1,000 year old homes found in the village of

Gue de Longrois. These simple built stone

walled homes with natural earth roofs

sustained the harsh elements in France, the many wars and plundering of enemies with tall walls

around the home, and seemed even more beautiful then ever despite the age of the homes. In

the nearby town of Chartres can be found the most famous French cathedral with stunning

stained windows which were removed during the war and all were kept intact and preserved as

part of French History. Thus this concept of using only sustainable lifetime products to build a

home was born such as natural stone walls, solid hardwoods, fireplaces that produce heat in the

home for cold nights, gas logs that replace real wood but that are handpainted, linen drapes to

protect the handmade rugs which both insulate the home against cold and the heat, and then

luxury bedding which does not need replacing every few years but lasts a lifetime. And let’s not

forget benchmade furniture which is heirloom quality, not made on production machinery.

If you enjoy finding high quality handmade products, each one unique to use as the

cornerstones of your home, you have found the right place for a myriad of hard to find

products. We love the cedar 8’ long mantle shelf, which is a tree trunk cured in Elijay, Georgia

for many months, split in half and then stained and sealed ready to hang on your stone wall in

the keeping room. A 10’ handbuilt plank dining room table in a French Design with long

benches and stained in grey is another great find that makes your home feel comfortable and

inviting for your guests. Cotton rugs by Dash & Albert which are reversible and washable were

first found by the owner in Martha’s Vineyard. Now the entire line of over 200 rugs can be

found at Sustainable Lifestyle Home. Partnering with only the best firms allows SLH to bring to

market such unusual products that were not found before now in Atlanta.

The most amazing products in this new showroom would have to be the six foot long

contemporary linear fireplaces with a ribbon burner, by Montigo out of Vancouver Canada

which is handbuilt to your specifications. You have the choice for many types of media to

decorate the inside of the fireplace from crystals, to gems to diamond shaped glass, to rocks,

driftwood, or logs. All of the contemporary fireplaces shown at SLH are designed to create

radiating heat which can be thermastically controlled, which allows zone heating to reduce heat

costs in the home. Such zone heating in

each room means no waste of expensive

gas heat in 2 story rooms, allowing for the

fireplace to revolve backwards to the

central focal point of the house as it always

was in early days before central heat was

invented. This means the family actually

gathers together to enjoy the beauty of

the fire without being in front of laptops in

their bedroom sequestered away alone.

Our sustainable concept also brings back

memories of historical building blocks

using the reclaimed hardwoods which are basically 150-200 year old wood from historical

buildings cut from the large beams which were the old way of building commercial buildings

and homes. These beams are then cut into whatever size is desired in wide plank flooring and

can be nailed or pegged down to create a gorgeous warm floor with original nail holes evident

throughout the floors as well as handscraping on the wood and other aged features.

And let’s not forget the newest addition to fireplaces such as Ethanol which used denatured

alcohol for its source of fire or Electric Fireplaces by Modern Flame which are built up to 100” in

size with realistic flames and 6,000 BTUS of heat in case you do not have space for a chimney yet

still want the beauty of a fireplace in your home. Such new creative ideas give a very modern

feel to the home and are show stoppers since such unusual fireplaces are not often seen in

homes. Bring your ideas to Sustainable Lifestyle Home and the personable staff will help you

design amazing rooms with lifetime products which helps create a custom feel to every space,

much different from the cookie cutter concept of spec homes found on every corner in Atlanta.
