Sustainable textiles.Made by Camira.

Sustainability looms large in our thinking. It goes to the core of who we are, what we do and the legacy we leave behind. It’s reflected in the products we design, the materials we use and the time-honed skills which go into making yarn and fabric.

We have innovated a totally new category of materials using nature’s finest and cleverest renewables – natural “bast” fibres from the stems of harvested plants and pure new wool. So our sustainable textile expertise goes right from farm to fabric and we handle everything in between.

Made sustainably, responsibly, perfectly.

That’s our promise.

FlaxA symbol of purity, the magic of flax has been woven into human history as one of the oldest cultivated plants grown for both its textile fibres and its nutritional seeds. The Latin name for flax is “Linum Usitatissimum” which means “most useful” and gives us the common term which we use for flax–linen. It’s an annual plant sown from seed, with attractive pale blue flowers, and soft, silky, long and strong textile fibre.

Main Line Flax Wild flax contains strong, long and smooth fibres found inside the stem of the plant. The fibre is spun into a 70/30 wool flax blend, fibre dyed and spun into yarn, then woven into Main Line Flax.

HempHemp is grown from plants of the Cannabis genus, usually associated with recreational drugs and medicines, although the strain we cultivate is grown under licence and contains only minute amounts of the psychoactive THC substance. It is one of the fastest growing biomasses, with a rapid seed to harvest cycle, growing to around 10 feet in just 120 days. Hemp fibre in natural wool blends combines beautiful colouration with technical high performance.

Hemp A mix of nature’s renewables, hemp and wool have been blended together to create Hemp, a fabric with unique performance, appearance and environmental properties.

Hebden Hebden is an evolution of Hemp, in the same composition of 60% virgin wool and 40% harvested hemp with a diffused and large scale dappled plaid.

Nettle AztecIt is now over a decade ago that Camira innovated a new category of textile fibre from nettles grown commercially as agricultural crops on UK farms. The pioneering project involved research into nettle clones and cultivation; harvesting methods and fibre extraction; blending, spinning, weaving and dyeing; technical performance evaluation and lifecycle assessment. The culmination was the launch of Sting, an acronym for “Sustainable Technology in Nettle Growing”, which has now matured into Nettle Aztec.

Aztec Aztec is the plain solid version with the same appealing texture.

SilkSilk is a luxurious natural fibre produced by the larvae of silkworms and other insects to form protective cocoons. It has a shimmering appearance because it refracts incoming light at different angles, producing sparkling colours which add a touch of glitz and glamour. The silk we use is upcycled from “noils” which are the short fibre waste remnants from the combing process before yarn spinning. Valuable and visual, they form a key part of the textile fibre blend.

Silk Made from a blend of three natural fibres, silk, flax and wool, this product, Silk, has a fantastic eco-story, a luxuriously soft handle and is inherently flame retardant.

We have two accredited seminars which are great if you’d like to find out more on making informed choices for environmental specification: Sustainability and innovation in contract fabrics (RIBA accredited for the UK) – from fibre types to flammability, dyeing and eco-labelling, this seminar examines the environmental impacts of textile material choices to help you become a more sustainably aware textile specifier.

Specifying sustainable fabrics to enhance health and wellbeing (IDCEC accredited for North America) – how to identify more environmentally sustainable fabrics, whilst examining the importance of health and wellness in commercial interiors. Both seminars count towards continuing professional development (CPD) and education (CEU), so you can get credits while you lunch and learn.

Learn more about sustainability in textiles.

Photographic scans are not always colour accurate to the fabric; please request actual samples before ordering.

Landscape The Landscape Collection is inspired by the re-imagined plaids of the catwalks, bringing bold pattern to contemporary interiors.

Individuo Individuo is a wool-rich fabric with a distinctive tie dye effect available in a selection of four contemplative colourways.
