Overview about Mr. Sjahrir :

Sutan Sjahrir (Born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Indonesia March 5,

1909). Well known as “Bung Kecil” or “Mister Little”. Studies at Law Faculty of Leiden University, Holland. Doesn’t like any capitalism! Everything must be shared, except tooth paste.

He is also socialist. In 1920s, Mr. Sjahrir joins Perhimpunan Indonesia, leads by Moch. Hatta or

“Bung Hatta”, in Holland. In 1931, Mr. Sjahrir back to motherland to join PNI (Partai Nasional

Indonesia) and leads the party. During 1932 – 1940, Mr. Sjahrir and Bung Hatta was alienated to Boven

Digoel (Papua) and Banda Neira (Island of Maluku Province).

Kidnapping! As Prime Minister, Sutan Sjahrir was kidnapped in Surakarta (June 23, 1946)

by Persatuan Perjuangan that not happy with his diplomacy with european country actually.

This kidnapping actions was lead by Major General Sudarsono and 14 Civilians Leaders, Including Tan Malaka from Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI / Indonesian Communism Party).

President Soekarno was very angry with this situation and send many troops to solve this kidnapping.

This moment called “pemberontakan yang gagal” or “failed rebellion”.

Amir Syariffudin : Rivalry, Ideology and Replaces as Prime Minister After kidnapping in Surakarta, Mr. Sjahrir not exist as Prime Minister, He was replaced

by Amir Syariffudin (at offices July 3, 1947 – January 3, 1948)

Mr. Amir Syariffudin is Socialist as well as Mr. Sjahrir, and plus has a communism

ideology, they has different point of view to looks into socilism, Mr. Sjahrir likes to do

diplomacy a lot.

Mr. Sjahrir become Minister of Foreign Affairs in Mr. Amir Syariffudin Cabinets.

Mr. Amir Syariffudin was surrender in Madiun after PKI rebellion in 1948, and was

executed in Yogyakarta.

Mr. Amir Syariffudin and Mr. Sjahrir was waited train in Madiun, 1947.

Diplomacy of Sutan Sjahrir

Linggarjati deliberations (November 15. 1946). Mr. Sjahrir believes that Sukarno is a leaders of Indonesia that people want

it, Sukarno was unificated Indonesia, but Sukarno biggest power must be direct to the good way for the nations.

He changes the cabinet from presidential to parlement. Mr. Sjahrir always telling about humanity and anti-violations. He want to

show to the world that Indonesia Revolutions times is a factual and more humanity instead lot of country want to indenpendent from the colonilaism.

Go to Lake Success for United Nations meetings (with K.H. Ahmad Dahlan) to said about support from Egypt and India, because of Dutch War Agression in 1947 – 1949.

He bend Van Kleffens arguments so Indonesia can be totally independent from colonialism and be real country.

He is famous in the press community and called “The Smilling Diplomats”.

Relation with Soekarno and Moch. Hatta

Mr. Sjahrir and Bung Hatta had a long

lasting good relationships until the ends,

they met at Leiden in 1920s. But Mr. Sjahrir with Bung Karno had

fluctuative relationship and effected to

Mr. Sjahrir career as polticians. President Soekarno was not believed

anymore to Mr. Sjahrir at the end until

Mr. Sjahrir dies, and was lonely as

alienation person in Indonesia. They

actually has a mutual relationships,

because they needs each others with

their own abilities.

The End of “Bung Kecil”

Mr. Sjahrir lead Partai Sosialis Indonesia (PSI / Indonesian Socialist Party)

and failed to enter the parlement in 1955, also his relations with President

Sukarno getting worst all the time.

After rebellion of PSI and PRRI, Mr. Sjahrir was jailed without entering the

court until he get strokes, and government send him to Zurich, Swiss with

his family (Poppy Sjahrir and their Children)

Sutan Sjahrir was died in Zurich April 9. 1966.

“Each unification only seems tactical, temprary, and because of this is accidental. Many Efforts for unite by compulsion only makes any sons of faggots. Unification like that will very hurt, lost and broke the movement”.
