    Whats in This Release

StratWorks 5000.0.3.1 is an update release. It is a full installation that replacesStratWorks 5000.0.3.0. StratWorks 5000.0.3.0 was replaced because it had the criticaldefect listed below. This defect has been fixed in StratWorks 5000.0.3.1 along with seven

    other issues.

Critical Defect Fixed in StratWorks 5000.0.3.1:

Colorfill between two curves displayed spurious diagonal lines when the verticaldisplay distance between the two curves was very small in the 5000.0.3.0 release.

Other Issues Addressed in StratWorks 5000.0.3.1:

Graphically moving a symbol created using Free-Form Drawing crashed StratWorksapplications on Redhat 5.

MapView crashed creating a Well Projection onto a line of section that was created inPowerView or DecisionSpace Desktop software if one or more points in the sectionwere not snapped to a well.

The Filter Based On and Sort Based On lists in the Header / Trailer Editor Table ValueParameters were missing the second item in the list.

Performance reading faults was improved by a factor of 2. In 5000.0.3.0 it took 60seconds to read faults in a project that had 50,000 fault names. In 5000.0.3.1, this hasbeen reduced to 30 seconds. This performance enhancement affects StratWorksapplications when they need to generate or refresh a list of faults, which occurs:

    upon initialization

when a new fault name is added to the database

when edits to fault parameters are saved to the database

Selection Box widgets became unstable if there were more than 32,767 items in thelist causing the application to crash when re-entering the Selection Box (for instance,MapView Fault Mapping crashed the second time a fault was selected in a projectcontaining 50,000 fault names). Selection Box widgets now support up to 2 trillion

    items in the list.

Correlation crashed if the specified depth range was entirely below the total depth ofa selected well when in User Measured Depth mode. If in User mode, it gave aminiature display in the lower-left corner for this case.

Single Well Viewer did not honor the specified Minimum Depth in deviated wells whenthe Display Range was set to USER and the Depth Type was TVDSS.

Enhancements Made in the StratWorks 5000.0.3.0 Point Product Release:

Well data correlation workflows were enhanced by:

Providing the Single Well Multi-Section Correlation application allowing you todisplay multiple sections of a well side-by-side and correlate data between thesesections. It is designed for horizontal and highly deviated wells whose wellborepath changes direction up or down although any well in the project database canbe displayed.

Allowing you to directly select the color for surfaces and faults in Correlation andSingle Well Multi-Section Correlation instead of using the Strat Column Editor toset the color.

The limit was removed on the number of fault names that can be accessed in

StratWorks applications. An easy way was provided to set active/inactive status of faults in projects with a large

    number of faults.

Implemented save and restore of highlighted well lists and located well betweenMapView sessions.

Client-reported defects were fixed and listed in the Fixed Problemssection.

See the Enhancements and New Functionalitysection for details

StratWorks Software Version 5000.0.3.1 is a full installation. Previous versions ofStratWorks and StratUtil software need to be deleted (or moved to a different directoryname) before installing 5000.0.3.1. Pointset Builder and Fault Mover were not updated forthis release; therefore, they do not need to be reinstalled if the following versions arealready installed:

    Pointset Builder 5000.0.3.0

    Running StratWorks Software

    Post-Installation

The swlauncher.dat file was changed in 5000.0.3.0 to include the Single Well Multi-Section Correlation application. The swlauncher.dat file in users $HOME directories needto be deleted. When users launch StratWorks software from the OpenWorks launcher,it automatically copies over a new version of the swlauncher.dat file if this file is notalready in their $HOME directory.

If 5000.0.3.0 was installed and this action was already performed, it does not need to bedone after installing 5000.0.3.1.

    Displaying on Windows Operating Systems

You can display StratWorks software remotely on a system running Windows by usingHummingbirds Exceed software. For instructions, see the 5000.0.0 Release Notes. Touse the StratWorks 3D application with Exceed, use Exceed 3D.

    Environment Variables

Before running StratWorks software, you can set the following environment variables.

To clear an environment variable setting, enter the following command at an xtermprompt:

    unsetenv

    Environment Variable Description

STRATHOME Installed in $OWHOME/StratWorksby default. To change theinstallation directory, edit the .lgcloginfile.

STRATUTILHOME Installed in $OWHOME/StratUtilby default. To change theinstallation directory, edit the .lgcloginfile.

FONT_MAP Required for plotting text with filled fonts. You must include

setenvFONT_MAPin the .lgcloginfile so the variable is set

    before you startOpenWorks software.

LGC_Y2K_PIVOT_YEAR Defines the pivot year Wellbore Manager uses to determine if a

two-digit date is in the twentieth or twenty-first century. Dates on

or before the pivot year are considered to be in the twenty-first

century. If the variable is not defined, the default pivot year is 30.

(By default, two-digit years 00 through 30 are considered to be

    2000 through 2030.)

    Wellbore Manager uses the LGC_Y2K_PIVOT_YEARenviron-

mental variable defined in the $OWHOME/conf/lgcenv.cffile. If

you set this variable at an xterm prompt before you start Open-Works software, that value overrides the value in the lgcenv.cffile.

    Example: setenv LGC_Y2K_PIVOT_YEAR 40

SW_CGM_TMPDIR Specifies the destination directory for writing temporaryStrat-Works .cgmfiles. These are the .cgmfiles generated on-the-flyby sending a plot to the plotter directly, not the named .cgmfilesyou save in Save dialog boxes. If the variable is not defined,

$HOME/runis the default directory. You can also set this vari-able in the .lgcloginfile.Example: setenv SW_CGM_TMPDIR /tmp

    SW_TEMP_PARAMETER_FIL

    E_DIR

Specifies the destination directory for temporary instance param-

eter filesthe behind-the-scenes parameter files that enable you

to run multiple instances of an application without one instance

    changing another ones parameters.

If the variable is not defined, $HOME/runis the default direc-tory. You may want to set this variable if your $HOMEdirectoryhas very limited space.

    Example: setenv SW_TEMP_PARAMETER_FILE_DIR /

    pa/temp_files

SW_CNTR_DIR Specifies the destination for writing the contour.mfdfile, whichis used in mapping.

    SW_NO_SAVE_CONTOUR_MFD

Instructs the application to discard the contour.mfdfile when youend the session.

SW_TMPRM Controls the removal of StratWorks error files (stw_*.err), sqllogs (stw_*.log), contour MFDs (contour_*.*), temporary CGMs

(sw*.cgm), and parameter instance files (if they have not beenproperly deleted). These files are deleted when you close the

StratWorks Command Menu. You can also set this variable in

the .lgcloginfile. The settings are: ASK Ask for confirmation before deleting files (default setting).

NOASK Delete files without asking for confirmation.

NODELETE Do not delete files or ask for confirmation.

    Example: setenv SW_TMPRM NOASK

GeoNames: Controls the renaming of GeoNames (also known as Formation

Names). If you use a project backup file from StratWorks

R98.1.2 or R98.5 (but not R98.5.1), your project may contain

misnamed grids that are not compatible with R98.1, R2003.3.0,

    5000.0.0, or 5000.0.3.1.

If these variables are not set, the default option is to allow you to

modify only the GeoNames owned by the current interpreter. The

variables take effect the next time you start StratWorks soft-

    ware.

SW_NEVER_CHANGE_NAMES If set to YES, GeoNames are never changed regardless of the set-tings of the other two GeoName environmental variables.

SW_ASK_ON_NAME_CHANGE If set to YES, you are asked to verify name changes.

Example:The GeoNames for pointsets and grids named:

    Top1Top2 (1998.1.2 /1998.5 name) will be

    renamed to Top1 Top2 (1998.1/1998.5.1/2003)

    name

    Do you accept the change?

SW_MANAGER_CHANGE_ALL If set to YESand the current interpreter has Manager status, all

grids and pointsets are changed to the new name.

    TVT/TST:

STW_PRINTPICKSEnables display of TVT/TST interpolated picks in the Informa-tion window of the current application.

STW_PRINTTABLE Enables printing of the TVT/TST depth table in the Information

    window of the current application.

    Example: setenv STW_PRINTPICKS1

Restor ing the Tutor ial Project

The $STRATUTILHOME/dat/backupsdirectory contains the TUTORIAL_5000.bckproject, which you can restore in OpenWorks software release 5000.0.1.0 or higherversion. Use this project with the online StratWorks Tutorial.

To restore the TUTORIAL_5000.bckproject, follow these steps:

    1. Select Project > Project Administrationfrom the OpenWorks Command Menu. The Project Administration dialog box appears.

    2. In the Project Administration dialog box, select Project > Project Database >Restore.

STW_GENTOLER Determines how much the application generalizes (smooths) a

wellbore when calculating track locations for templates, if you

plot a well display in Deviated Normal mode. Specify a valuethat is greater than 0, but less than 1. The lower the value, the

smoother the wellbore is. The default value is 0.001 (very

smooth). This value does not represent a concrete widthit is

relative to the users plotter settings. If you generalize the well-

bore, the depth track does not appear on top of the wellbore.

    SW_SM_UPDATE_ LAST_OPENED

Activates/deactivates the automatic save operation for indepen-

dent application sessions you launch during a Session Manager

session. (Independent application sessions are sessions you

have saved and reopened in one of the managed applications, not

the application instances you save and reopen by using SessionManager itself. The applications currently managed in Session

Manager are: Preferences, Correlation, Cross Section, MapView,

Wellbore Manager, Header/Trailer Editor, and Single Well

    Viewer.)

If you launch an independent session during a Session Manager

session, by default Session Manager does not attempt to save it.

    If you set the SW_SM_UPDATE_LAST_OPENEDvariable,

launch an independent session, and exit from Session Manager,

the independent session is saved automatically. (No dialog box

appears.) The save operation succeeds only if the session is

    owned by the current interpreter.

    Enhancements and New Functionality

This section lists the enhancements specific to the 5000.0.3.0 release followed by theenhancements added during the 5000.0.2.0, 5000.0.1.0, 5000.0.0 and 2003.12.1

releases (therefore in 5000.0.3.0 as well) since some clients may not have installed theseversions.

    5000.0.3.0 Enhancements

    Single Well Multi-Section Correlation

Single Well Multi-Section Correlation allows you to correlate data between sections of thesame well. This functionality is useful for interpreting data in horizontal wells or highlydeviated wells where there is a decrease in true vertical depth with increasing measured

depth (recumbent wells). You can display up to 5 sections side-by-side and perform thefollowing tasks:

Analyze and correlate depth-related well data on a section-to-section basis usingvisual comparison of downhole data and curve dragging.

Interpret surface picks, fault picks, and well units.

The displayed sections are specified in measured depth but can be displayed inTVDSS, TVD, TST or TVT without overposting of data from other sections at the sameTVDSS, TVD, TST, or TVT depth ranges.

Set Surface and Fault Colors While Correlating

The color of the surface or fault can now be specified when creating picks for a newsurface or new fault using the Add Surface Pick or Create New Fault dialog boxes in

the Correlation and Single Well Multi-Section Correlation. In previous releases, theStrat Column Editor was used to specify the color after the surface was correlated.

The color for existing surfaces and faults can now be specified within the Correlationand Single Well Multi-Section Correlation applications by using the new Edit Surface /Fault Color dialog box. In previous releases, the Strat Column Editor was the onlyplace to change surface / fault colors within the StratWorks software.

Unlimited Number of Faults and Setting Fault Active/Inactive Status

With the ability to combine projects in R5000, it is not uncommon for projects to containover 20,000 fault names which was the limit in previous R5000 versions ofStratWorks software. This limit has been removed. There is no limit on the numberof fault names that can be used in StratWorks applications.

A performance enhancement was also implemented to speed the reading ofthousands of faults. In our tests of 60,000 fault names, we reduced the time from 3minutes to 1 minute. Note:Once the faults are read by an application, they are cachedand not re-read unless a new fault data is generated in the database, so the pause togenerate fault name lists will normally occur only the first time faults are listed or afternew fault data is saved to the database.

The Strat Column Editor was enhanced to include a new dialog box to easily change

matter what data source was associated with the core data. Now the user has theoption to limit the data posted by selecting from 1 to 10 data sources whose datawill be pulled for the display or to honor the current Interpreter / Source Prioritysetting.

Two additional Core Sample Description data fields can be posted: FluorescenceDescription and Original Data Source.

Core analysis/description data no longer overposts after shift.

    Paleo Track:

In previous releases, either all species types or one user selected species typecould be posted. Now the user can select multiple species types to be posted.

    Well Notes Track:

In previous releases, the user was limited to posting well notes by one user-selected interpreter. Now the user has the new options to post well notes by allinterpreters or from 1 to 10 user selected interpreters.

Core, DST&RFT, Engineering, Paleo, Production, Show, Strat Unit Attribute, WellInterval, and Well Test Tracks:

These tracks have been updated to handle remarks over 100 characters. The

length of the remarks field in the datamodel for many types of data displayed inthese tracks has been increased. StratWorks well template tracks were notupdated and demonstrated unpredictable behavior when remarks were longerthan 100 characters. The tracks have now been updated to correctly displayremarks up to the length specified by the datamodel (200 characters in mostcases; some are longer).

Note:This change does not affect template backwards compatibility.

Well Templates with Enhanced Tracks are Not Backwards Compatible

Templates created in 5000.0.2.0 containing any of the three enhanced tracks (Core,Paleo, Well Notes) are not backwards compatible with previous R5000 versions ofStratWorks software. Templates that do not contain enhanced tracks are compatiblewith previous R5000 versions.

If you inadvertently use an enhanced template in a previous StratWorks softwareversion, the incompatibility may be as mild as the enhanced track being empty since theolder version does not know about the new parameters and therefore does not have anyinstruction of how to display the data; or, it may be as severe as the application crashingbecause more information for that track is passed into memory which overruns thesmaller amount of memory allocated for the track in previous versions.

    5000.0.1.0 Enhancements

Cross Section Can Display Up to 200 Grids

The number of surface grids that can be displayed in Cross Section has beenincreased from 100 to 200.

Calculate Dips at Picks Results Window in Correlation

Interpret -> Calculate Dipswas added in the 5000.0.0.0 release. For the 5000.0.1.0release, this functionality has been enhanced as follows:

The calculated dips and azimuths are displayed in a table allowing the user toreview the results, accept or reject them all, or edit values at individual picks anddelete individual values before accepting the calculated dip / azimuth values.

The user has more control over which dip and azimuth values will be calculated, such as only calculate dips for picks belonging to the current interpreter vs. picksfrom source priority.

    Create Line of Sectionin Correlation

To make it easier to display the same wells in Cross Section as currently displayed inCorrelation, Correlation has a new option to create a Line of Section (LOS) from thecurrently displayed wells. This LOS can then be used in Cross Section or MapView.

seismic project data into the OpenWorks project framework. Integration is built intothe Data Model, not the application. Highlights include enhancements to theOpenWorks Data Model to enable the storage and management of seismic andassociated data, major enhancements to the Interpretation ID Model, the addition of

Meta-Data and Processing History Model, redesigned Data Managers, andOpenWorks and Engineer's Data Model (EDM) rationalization.

StratWorks functionality changed by the OpenWorks Project Optimizationregarding seismic- related changes:

Cross Section Seismic Backdrop and Seismic Trace Converter The codewas modified to incorporate the changes for the seismic data model. From theuser perspective, the major changes are:

Prompts for selecting the trace data have changed because trace data is now

retrieved from the OpenWorks project instead of a SeisWorks project. (Much ofSeisWorks data is now accessible via the OpenWorks project.)

Prompts concerning datumshave been removed because seismic data is nowautomatically datumed to sea level for depthdata and to the OpenWorks ProjectDatum fortimedata.

Note: The Project Datum and Reference Velocity must be properly set for theOpenWorks project in order for the automatically datuming to occur. UseProject Administration > Project Modifyto check or modify these values.

MapView Structure Mapping The code was modified to incorporate thechanges for the seismic data model. From the user perspective, the majorchanges are

Prompts for selecting seismic horizons have changed because in R5000 horizonsare stored in the database instead of a SeisWorks project.

You can select multiple surveys to read the seismic horizon over instead of justone survey.

Prompts for selecting SeisWorks fault segments have changed to use the 3 keysused to identify SeisWorks fault planes: Fault Name, Interpretation Version, andData Source

Prompts for SeisWorks datums have been removed because seismic data is nowautomatically datumed to sea level for depthdata and to the OpenWorks ProjectDatum fortimedata.

MapView File > SetupSet AOI has an additional option: Set AOI to currentproject. This allows the user easily to set the AOI to the same AOI used bySeisWorks.

StratWorks functionality changed by the OpenWorks Project Optimizationregarding Engineers Data Model rationalization related changes:

Well Volume Production Changes in Mapping & Well Template Track. TheR5000 data model no longer supports the Production Volume Record table. Itsdata is migrated during the project upgrade process to 5 tables: Monthly and DailyProduction, Monthly and Daily Injection and Cumulative tables. Isochore MappingWell Production and the Well Template Production track have been modified toaccommodate these changes.

Well Templatesfrom previous versions of StratWorks software that contain a

Production Track will be automatically upgraded when selected in a StratWorksapplication. The upgrade is only for the current display. The upgraded template isnot saved until the user enters Single Well Viewer Edit Mode, selects the WellTemplate, and saves the upgraded template. The upgrade looks at the previousproduction track display parameters and tries to map them as closely as possibleto the five R5000 production tables and the fields in these tables.

Well Headersfrom previous versions of StratWorks software that referenced thepre-R5000 production table (WELL_PDEN_VOL_RECORD) will be automaticallyupgraded. The upgrade is only for the current display. The upgraded template isnot saved until the user enters Header/Trailer Editor, selects the Header, and

saves the upgraded Header. Well Headers do not have as much information asWell Templates, so the upgrade cannot map to the five different tables. Theupgrade displays the production data in the R5000 cumulative table(PDM_PROD_CUMS).

Dip Calculation for Picks and Projected Slopes (Dip) Gridding

Correlation has been enhanced to calculate dip and azimuth for one or more picksfrom dipmeter data. This option is available for a single pick in a well using the EditPick option, or for selected picks over selected wells using Interpretation > CalculateDips.

MapView Structure Mapping has been enhanced to include the Project Slopesgridding algorithm. In the pointset, it includes slope data (dip and azimuth) from thepick or average dip and azimuth from dipmeter data if desired. (If a picks dip andazimuth are null, it computes the local slope of the surface at that pick.) Planarsurfaces having these slopes are projected from each data point into void areas. A gridnodes initial value is the average of the distance-weighted Z-values of these planesat that node. This gridding method tends to broaden highs and lows.

    2003.12.1.0 Enhancements

Enhancements to StratWorks Software Release 2003.12.1.0 are included in the5000.0.0 release. Since StratWorks Software Release 2003.12.1.0 was released after

the 5000.0.0 release, the enhancements are listed here.

Recumbent Well Support in Correlation and Single Well Viewer

You can avoid overposting of data in recumbent areas of well in all depth types (MD,TVD, TVDSS, TST, and TVT) by using new display options; Between 2 Picks MD,Explicit Bwtn 2 picks MD, and User Measured Depth.

Previous existing depth modes of display are enhanced in appearance when inrecumbent areas of wells such as headers more correctly placed and well data morecorrectly placed in template boundaries. In previous releases displays were very

corrupt in appearance in recumbent areas in Correlation and blank in Single WellViewer.

Option to post TST and TVT depth tracks in any depth mode of display

Correlation: Ability to create / edit picks in recumbent areas in all depth modes --previously only possible in MD depth mode.

Correlation: Pick list displays the picks MD depth (as before) and also depth value inthe current depth mode of display.

    Between Two Picks

    Between Two Picks:

    1. Determines the true vertical depth value of picksInflection A and Inflection B and sets this as thedepth range.

    2. Reads all data in the well (picks, log curves, etc.) with aTVDvalue that falls within that range. In this case, it reads data from all 3 legs of thewell because all 3 legs have some part that fallswithin the TVD range determined in step 1.

    3. Displays the data at the TVD values read fromthe database.

    Between Two Picks MD:

    1. Determines the measured depthvalue ofpicks Inflection A and Inflection B and setsthis as the depth range.

    2. Reads all data in the well (picks, logcurves, etc.) with aMDvalue that fallswithin that range. In this case, it reads datafrom only the second leg of the wellbecause it is the only part of the well thatfalls within the MD range determined instep 1.

    3. Converts each MD value of the read datainto TVD values.

    4. Displays the data at the TVD valuescalculated in step 3.

The user is now prompted to remove lock files as Session Manager initializes. The userno longer runs a separate script to remove lock files.

Well Projections in Cross Section and MapView

The well projection code used by Cross Section and MapView has improved logic whendeviated wells are projected across two or more segments. These changes resolve manyundesired display in specific cases dependent upon LOS alignment vs. deviated wellalignment. For example:

In pre-2003.12.1.0 releases, a deviated well could project along a segment of theLOS, then jump (non-contiguous X,Ys) to a different segment because that partof the well was closer to that other segment. The program now checks which

segment the majority of the position log points fall on; determines direction; thendisplays all the points in that direction across adjacent segments.

    Known Problems

This section describes known problems and possible workarounds for the StratWorkssoftware 5000.0.0 release. Some long-standing known issues are covered in the

documentation and are not listed here.

This section also describes some options that function properly, but may cause problemsif you are unfamiliar with their intended use.

If you do experience problems with the StratWorks application suite, the best practice isto check the related topics in the online documentation, available by clicking the Helpmenu and selecting an option from the drop-down list. In particular check the onlineRelease Notes. This approach often gives you the fastest solution and helps you increaseyour mastery of the product.

    Application Manager

Preventing Child Windows from Appearing Behind a Primary Window

Within various applications, child windows may sometimes become hidden behind themain application window.

Workaround: In the Style Manager window, click the Windowicon and toggle offtheAllow Primary Windows On Topoption.

    Problems with duplicate file names

StratWorks software release 5000.0.0 includes a copy of the hardwarefills.clmfileacolor ramp with pastel shades of color that produce better hardcopy displays than thedefault color settings. If the default color settings are used in printing, colors used inhardcopy (or saved in the target CGM/ZGF file) may not match the colors displayed inStratWorks software. This file is located in the. /StratUtil/dat directory. To be availablefor use in StratWorks software, it must also exist in the default color file location (.../OW_SYS_DATA/color_files). The file is automatically copied. However, if a file with thisname is already present in the default color file directory, you need to copy the filemanually (and either specify a new file name or overwrite the previous file).

Use the Hardcopy tab in the StratWorks Preferences dialog box to select thehardwarefills.clmfile.

    Correlation

    Pick Line Display Problem

Moving multiple pick occurrences at a common depth causes pick line display issues. Thepick line that is selected to move does not appear. The pick lines for all other picks appearas expected. This problem occurs only if you move multiple picks from the same depth. You retain depth control of the pick placement and the pick line reappears after you movethe picks. (166892)

    Requirements for the Stratigraphic Column

To use the Correlation Assistant utility, every unit in the associated stratigraphic column

must be defined by a unique top and base surface. If multiple units use a common surfaceas a boundary, Correlation Assistant is unable to recognize them as units.

In addition, boundary surface names that are assigned to a common surface must havethe same age (as seen in the Strat Column Editor). For example, suppose you have acolumn with Unit Aon top (defined by TopAand BaseAsurfaces) and Unit Bdirectlyunderneath (defined by TopBand BaseBsurfaces), where BaseAand TopBboth refer tothe junction of the two units. In this case, BaseAand TopBmust have the same age.

Make sure you create and specify a stratigraphic column that meets these requirementsfor Correlation Assistant to function properly.

    Limitations

Correlation Assistantonly works inAdd Surface Pickand Delete Surface Pick mode.It is not designed to be active in any other mode. For example, if you drag a pick,Correlation Assistant is not activated.

Correlation Assistant is designed to be active only if all the surfaces in the associatedstratigraphic column are active. If the stratigraphic column contains any inactive surfaces,Correlation Assistant will not operate properly.

    Dips

Using dip angles in the ranges of 89.99 to 89.999 degrees and 90.001 to 90.01 degreeswhen working with TVT or TST can consume large amounts of memory and bog down thesystem.

    Free Form Annotation

If you use Free Form Annotation files saved in StratWorks Software Version 2003.3.1 inlater versions of StratWorks software, the text may appear in a different location. This

display issue is specific to Free Form Annotation files from the 2003.3.1 release.

Workaround: If you have a Free Form Annotation file from the 2003.3.1 release that postsin the wrong location, open a text editor and find the following line:

    FREE_FORM_ANNOTATI ON

Edit the file to include the following line, then save the file:

Lithology Code Names Not Displayed in Color Control Dialog

On a Linux system, if you define lithology codes in the Lithology Curve Generator utility, the code names do not appear in the Color Control dialog box. (137250)

Workaround: Estimate the code positions based on the code position numbers and on theconfiguration option you chose (either With Equal Spacing of User Codes Across Scaleor With Proportional Spacing of User Codes Across Scale).

    Lithology

Problems with Zooming After Filtering Stringers

If you filter out stringers (for instance, if you filter out the stringers that are more than 10

feet thick), they are removed from the Lithology display but reappear if the filtered area ismagnified by using a zoom function. Zooming negates the previous stringer filter. (305572and 34490)

    Workaround: Save Lithology before zooming.

    Cannot View Lithology Report

If you disable theAppl ication Information Windowssetting in the Session tab ofStratWorks Preferences dialog box, lithology reports do not appear. (159430)

    MapView

Surface Colors Not Relayed from Surface Fault Data Manager

If you change colors in OpenWorks Surface Fault Data Manager for surfaces that arealready displayed in MapView, the colors are not updated when you click the RedrawFrom Database icon. (171171).

    Workaround: Exit and restart MapView.

Creating Lines of Section in Pick Mode When Multiple Instances of a Pick Exist

The first time you create a Line of Section by snapping to a pick when multiple instances

of the pick exist in a well, you are asked to select which instance to use for each well. Atthe end of LOS creation a default Well Projection is created. You are then asked toprioritize the picks for the well projection creation. Once the prioritized list is set, LOScreation uses this list instead of asking which instance to use in each well. Therefore, ifyou repeat the creation process using the same pick, you are not asked which pickinstance to use.

Workaround: To restore the option to specify which pick instance to use for each well, perform one of these actions:

    Close and restart MapView, or

Create a Line of Section with a different pick, then return to the first pick.

    Session Manager

Saving Session During Exit Prevents Deletion of Temporary Files

StratWorks software now allows you to save the Session Manager session when youexit from the OpenWorks or StratWorks Command Menu. In this situation, the SessionManager saves an active named session or prompts you to save the current Untitled

session. If you choose to save the session, the console window that enables you to deletetemporary files from the$HOME/rundirectory does not appear.

Single Interpreter Running Sessions Multiple Times in Concurrent OpenWorksSessions

Session Manager saves session data based on the current interpreter. If you run multiple

OpenWorks sessions concurrently and open a session file in multiple OpenWorkssessions, writeoperation errors can occur when you save the sessions in SessionManager.

Workaround: Use separate interpreters for each OpenWorks session or make copies ofany sessions you want to use in multiple OpenWorks sessions, so the files are notshared.

    PUBLIC or Shared Interpreter

Session Manager saves session data to files based on interpreter. If multiple users usethe PUBLIC or Shared interpreter designation and try to use a single session file at thesame time, writeoperation errors can occur when the users save the sessions. Problemsseen during testing under these conditions include

the Session Manager hangs on initial use session control files become corrupt

Workaround: Do not use the PUBLIC or Shared interpreter designation when you useSession Manager. If your team uses Session Manager, make sure each user has a uniqueinterpreter designation.

Inabili ty to Delete Instance from Current Session

In Session Manager, you cannot delete an application instance that is part of the currentsession, although you can now toggle instances off. To delete an application instance, itmust be part of a saved, closed session. (142059)

    Displaying Online Help

For the current release, no Helpbutton appears in the Session Manager window. Onlinehelp is not directly accessible from Session Manager.

Workaround: See the section Using the Session Manager Utility in Introduction toStratWorks Software. You can display this document by selecting Help > OnlineManual > Introduction to StratWorksfrom the StratWorks Command Menu.

    Saving Independent Sessions

Independent sessions are not saved when you exit from Session Manager. You areprompted to save changes, but the independent session is not saved as part of the

Session Manager session. (Independent application sessions are sessions you havesaved and reopened directly from the File menu in one of the managed applications orutilitiesCorrelation, Cross Section, MapView, Wellbore Manager, Header/Trailer Editor,or Single Well Viewer.)

Workaround: To instruct Session Manager to save independent sessions, set theSW_SM_UPDATE_LAST_OPENEDvariable. The independent session must be owned bythe current interpreter. If you set the SW_SM_UPDATE_LAST_OPENEDvariable, SessionManager attempts the save operation automatically during exit without prompting you.

If you open an independent read-only session and want to save it in Session Manager,

you must first remove the sessions read-only status by saving the session under thecurrent interpreters designation in the native application.

Problems from Changing Interpreter in Mid-Session

If you switch to a new interpreter designation in the OpenWorks Project Status windowafter starting a StratWorks application sessions, the application instances that arealready running continue to use the interpreter specified at their initialization. In general,StratWorks software operates this way by design, so you can run multiple instances ofapplications that each have a different interpreter. In the case of the Session Manager

utility, it is important to run the utility under the current interpreter. If you run SessionManager with an obsolete interpreter setting, you can no longer save changes to themaster session file or create new master session files.

Workaround: If you switch interpreters while Session Manager is open, exit from SessionManager and restart it.

    Single Well Viewer

Min Depth Not Honored When Min Depth Greater Than Max Depth

Single Well Viewer and Wellbore Manager either give a blank display or do not start at thespecified minimum depth when the Depth Rangeis set to Userand the specifiedMinimum Depthis deeper than the specified Maximum Depth. To work around theproblem, input a Minimum Depththat is shallower than the Maximum Depth. (875056)

Summation Sets May Not Display the Correct Fills

A summation set created in a curve track may not display the correct fills. If the StartDisplay Fromfield in the Summation Set Parameters dialog box is set to a specified curve,

and the Leftand Right Valueparameters are set (for instance, if they are set to 0and 1),the display may not be filled correctly as if the summation began at the specified curve.(169655)

    Saving ***WELL SPECIFIC*** Template

In Single Well Viewer, if you set up the program (in View Well mode) to use a well-specifictemplate for displaying a well, then you save edits to the template (in Edit Templatemode). By default, the program saves the template under the name ***WELLSPECIFIC***. This causes problems if you work with well-specific templates for multiple

    wells. (170056)

Workaround: If the template name ***WELL SPECIFIC*** appears in the status area ofthe Single Well Viewer window (running in Edit mode), use the File > Templates > Save Asoption to save any changes to the template. Enter a unique name for saving the template, such as the original template name or a variation of it.

    Wellbore Manager

    Cursor Position Accuracy

If you move the cursor into the Wellbore Manager window display area, the status line atthe bottom of the window reports the approximate location of the cursor, not the exactlocation.

If you use cursor tracking between Cross Section and Wellbore Manager, the reportedcursor position is relative to the vertical plane of the LOS in Cross Section. If you set upthe Cross Section scaling parameters so that the wellbore appears in Deviated Normalmode, the cursor slows down or stops in Wellbore Manager whenever it moveshorizontally in the Cross Section window.

Workaround: Use one of the better tools that are available for determining the exactlocation of objects in the display area. For example, to determine the exact depth of acasing, select Tools > Query, then click the casing. The Query window appears andreports the exact location of the casing. You can also find this information by selectingTools > Interactive Equipment Editor, then clicking the casing.

Cursor tracking is more accurate in the Wellbore Manager window if the cursor is on theright side of the well template.

    Cursor Tracking in Deviated Wells

If you use cursor tracking between Cross Section and Wellbore Manager, the reportedcursor position is relative to the vertical plane of the LOS. If you set up the Cross Sectionscaling parameters so that the wellbore appears in Deviated Normal mode, then move thecursor in the Cross Section window, the status line in Wellbore Manager reports aninaccurate position unless the cursor is located on top of the wellbore.

Workaround: To check the position of an object in the display area, use one of the optionsdescribed in the previous problem workaround.

    Display Problems for Deviated Wells

If you display deviated wells in the Wellbore Manager window, the well data occasionallyappears highly compressed or distorted. This is especially true if the well bends towardthe left and is displayed at a small size. This symptom indicates that the well has too muchdata to fit in the space allowed by the scale of the display. The problem is more commonwith wells that bend toward the left because Wellbore Manager always displays the

wellbore to the right of other template tracks, no matter how tracks are arranged in thetemplate. (145545)

Workaround: If the tracks for deviated wells is unreadable or appears distorted, change

the scale so the image is larger. Once the allotted space is large enough to hold the welldata, the problem disappears.

    Well Templates

Using Two-Way Time in the Well Depth Track

In the Well Template Editor, perform the following steps if you plan to use TWT (two-waytime) as the depth type in a well template depth track, as preparation for using TWT as

the depth type in Single Well Viewer. The existing documentation that describes thisprocess is incomplete and contains misleading statements. (147352)

T-D Curve Defin ition Make sure the target well has a T-D table (time-depth table)that defines the time-depth curve you want to use. To view the data for the time-depthcurve definitions stored for a well, display the Well Data Manager window inOpenWorks software in Time Depth Data mode. (To do this, first display the WellData Manager window, select the target well, then select the Time Depth Dataradiobutton.) If no data appears in the Well Data Manager window at this point, no time-depth curve data has been saved for the selected well.

To define a new time-depth curve under the current interpreters designation, displaythe Well Data Manager window in Time Depth Data mode, select the target well, position the cursor somewhere in one of the two right window panes, click MB3, andselect Newfrom the context-sensitive menu that appears. (See the OpenWorks DataManagementmanual.)

Interpreter Source Priority Status If the current interpreter has an explicitlydefined Interpreter/Source Priority list, make sure the interpreter list includes theinterpreter who created the time-depth curve you want to use. If no Interpreter/SourcePriority list exists for the current interpreter, make sure one of the project teammembers has created an appropriate time-depth curve for the well. (See the Setting

Session Preferences topic in the Introduction to StratWorks Softwareguide.)
