S OLID WORKS 12 DECK SPLIT LINE SKATEBOARD P AGE 15-1 Skateboard Deck Split Line A. Sketch Geometry. Step 1. Open your DECK file. Step 2. Click Top Plane in the Feature Manager and click Sketch from the Content toolbar, Fig. 1. Step 3. Click Right on the Standard Views toolbar. (Ctrl-4) Step 4. Rotate view 90º. To rotate view 90º, hold down Shift key and use up arrow on keyboard to rotate Deck to see bottom view, Fig. 2. Step 5. Click Centerline (S) in the Line flyout on the Sketch toolbar. Step 6. Starting from the Origin , draw across the deck, Fig. 2. Step 7. Click Line (L) on the Sketch toolbar. Step 8. Draw line from the right endpoint of centerline line up at a angle and extend line out above the deck as shown in Fig. 3. Step 9. Click Smart Dimension (S) on the Sketch toolbar. Step 10. Skateboard

Deck Split Line A. Sketch Geometry.Step 1. Open your DECK file.

Step 2. Click Top Plane in the Feature Manager

and click Sketch from the Content toolbar, Fig. 1.

Step 3. Click Right on the Standard Views toolbar. (Ctrl-4)

Step 4. Rotate view 90º. To rotate view 90º, hold down Shift key and use up arrow on keyboard to rotate Deck to see bottom view, Fig. 2.

Step 5. Click Centerline (S) in the Line flyout on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 6. Starting from the Origin

, draw across the deck, Fig. 2.

Step 7. Click Line (L) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 8. Draw line from the right endpoint of centerline line up at a angle and extend line out above the deck as shown in Fig. 3.

Step 9. Click Smart Dimension

(S) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 10. Dimension the angle 45º, Fig. 3.

B. Offset Entities.

Step 1. Click Offset Entities on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 2. In the Offset Entities Property Manager set:

Distance 1.1 Fig. 4 click line in sketch, Fig. 5

The yellow offset should be left of original green line, Fig. 5. If it is not, click Reverse. Click OK

when done.

C. Linear Pattern.Step 1. Ctrl click both lines to select both lines, Fig. 6.

Step 2. Click Linear Sketch Pattern on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 3. In the Linear Sketch Property Manager set: under x-axis, Fig. 7

Spacing 3.5 check Dimension X spacing

Number of Instances 9

Angle 270º press ENTER, Fig. 8 click OK .

Step 4. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

D. Offset Entities.Step 1. Click Convert Entities

on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 2. In the Convert Entities Property Manager: for the Entities to Convert click the 3 edges of deck on the top, Fig. 10 click OK when done.

Step 3. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

E. Trim.

Step 1. Click Trim Entities on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 2. In the Trim Property Manger select Power

Trim , Fig. 11. Trim away lines outside Deck, Fig. 12. Drag across the lines to trim. Results shown in Fig. 13. Trim away lines below centerline, Fig. 13. Drag across the lines to trim. Re-sults shown in Fig. 14.

Trim away offset entities of wide space between lines, Fig. 14. Drag across the lines to trim. Results shown in Fig. 15. Click OK when done.

Step 3. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

F. Mirror Geometry.Step 1. Drag selection around the

sketch to select all entities, Fig. 16. To drag selection, click above and to left of sketch and drag down and to right to drag around all.

Step 2. Click Mirror Entities on the

Sketch toolbar.

Step 3. Click Exit Sketch on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 4. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

G. Split Line1.Step 1. Click Insert Menu > Curve > Split Line.

Step 2. In the Split Line Property Manager: under Type of Split, Fig. 18 select Projection

under Selections if the Sketch is not selected click the Sketch in drawing, Fig. 19

in the Faces to Split box click bottom face of Deckclick OK , Fig. 20.

Step 3. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

H. Sketch Text Construction Rectangle.Step 1. Click Top Plane in the Feature Manager and click Sketch

from the Content toolbar, Fig. 21.

Step 2. Click Centerline (S) in the Line flyout on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 3. Starting from the Origin , draw a centerline across the Deck, Fig. 22.

Step 4. Click 3 Point Corner Rectangle (S) in the Rectangle flyout

on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 5. Draw a rectangle at an angle above deck as shown in Fig. 23. Before you move the cursor away from the rectangle, right click a line and click Construction Ge-

ometry on the Content menu, Fig. 23. To draw a 3 point corner rectangle, click Point 1 and Point 2, then bring cursor down and click Point 3.

Step 6. Right click top line of rectangle and click Select Midpoint from Content menu, Fig. 34. Ctrl click horizontal centerline,Fig. 35. Release Ctrl key and click Make Coincident

on the Content menu.

Step 7. Click Smart Dimension

(S) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 8. Dimension as shown in Fig. 26.

I. Text.

Step 1. Click Text Tool on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 2. In the Sketch Text Property Manager set: under Curves, Fig. 27 click bottom line of rectangle in sketch, Fig. 28 under Text click in the box and lock the Caps Lock on keyboard and key-in CUDACOUNTRY, Fig. 27

Flip Vertical

Flip Horizontal uncheck Use document font checkbox click Font button.

Step 3. In the Choose Font dialog box, Fig. 20 select: under Font: select a Font, we use Neuropol under Font Style: Bold Oblique under Height: select Units Size 1.4 click OK button click OK .

Step 4. Click Exit Sketch on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 5. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

J. Split Line Text.Step 1. Click Insert Menu > Curve > Split Line.

Step 2. In the Split Line Property Manager: under Type of Split, Fig. 31 select Projection

under Selections if the Sketch is not selected click the Sketch in drawing, Fig. 32

in the Faces to Split box click all faces “under” textclick OK , Fig. 33.

K. Appearance.Step 1. Click Render Tools on the

Command Manager toolbar.

Step 2. Click Edit Appearance on the Render Tools toolbar.

Step 3. In the Appearances Task pane, expand Metal, click Chrome and in the lower pane select chro-mium plate, Fig. 34.

Step 4. In the Appearances Property Manager, Fig. 35 under Color: set RGB values to: R 55 G 137 B 255

Click Keep Visible and OK , Fig. 35. The Push Pin on allows selection of another appearance.

Step 5. In the Appearances Property Manager, under Selected Geometry under Selected Geometry

click Select Faces , Fig. 37 click each face of the Split Line 1, Fig. 38 under Color: click red swatch, Fig. 37.

Click OK , Fig. 37. The Push Pin on al-lows selection of another appearance.

Step 6. In the Appearances Property Manager,

click Select Faces , Fig. 39

click each face of the Split Line 2 (text), Fig. 40 under Color: leave default color, Fig. 39 click OK and click Cancel .

Step 7. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

L. Edit Appearance.Step 1. If necessary, here's how to change an appearance or slections. Click

Display Manager tab in the Manager Pane, Fig. 42.

Step 2. Click View Appearances in the Display Manager, Fig. 42.

Step 3. Right click an Appearance and click Edit Appearance.
