Books about Town for Schools

• To increase teacher skills and knowledge around teaching whole texts in Key Stages 2 and 3• To increase teacher and pupil knowledge of children’s and young adult literature• To improve attainment in reading at Key Stage 2 and 3• To increase enjoyment of reading amongst pupils

We will be working with 100 primary and secondary schools in London, with the aim:

Books about Town for Schools

For a contribution of £350, a school receives:• One day training for one Key Stage 2 or 3 teacher on teaching whole texts and motivating children to read for pleasure• Resources for classroom delivery, top-up training and whole school embedding• A BookBench for pupils to decorate and display as part of the project• Contact with authors around teaching their particular texts and tips on visualizing these on the benches• Additional project support and networking through a ‘Books about Town’ page on our online Network• 30% discount on books to enable whole class study of the same book

• 11 schools attended a training session in June

• 2 schools took part in a mini-book trail with Cressida Cowell
