DEFINITION OF TERMS:

Hand Massage – the manipulation of the hands to relax the client and ease the discomfort prior to enameling.

Effleurage – derived from french verb “effleurer” meaning to “brush against” or “touch lightly”.

Petrissage – derived from french verb “petrir” meaning to “to knead”.

Frictions – derived from Latin word “frictio” which means to “rub”.

Vibrations – group of technique that consist of rhythmic manipulations of the soft tissue.

How do you do Hand Massage?

STEP 1: Effleurage the hand and forearm.EFFLEURAGE ( Stroking )This is done by applying the palm of the hand to the

skin of the client or patron.Benefits of this manipulation :• Helps in relaxation.• Prevent form muscle fatigue.

STEP 2: Knead thumb back of the hand and the forearm. PETRISSAGE ( Kneading )This is done by compressing and

twisting the tissue using your one or both hands.

After compressing and twisting , stretch the hands of the client or patron.

Benefits :• Relieve muscle fatigue• Helps the muscle strengthen.

STEP 3: Finger circulations, supporting the joint.FRICTION ( Rubbing )This manipulation are applied

in a circular manner with your thumb or fingers.

Stretch the hands of the patron.

Benefits of this manipulation:• Can loosen stiffness• Generates heat• Relieve the pain

STEP 4: Apply beat or rhythm to the handTAPOTEMENT ( Percussion )To execute this manipulation,

CUPPING and SLAPPING is applied.

Cupping – performing with cupped hands

Slapping – performed with an open palm.

Benefits :• Strengthen the muscles• Prevent muscle stiffness
