Story versions

The original version of the tale, The String of Pearls, is set in

London in 1785 and concerns the strange disappearance of a

sailor named Lieutenant Thornhill, last seen entering the

parlor of Mr. Sweeney Todd.

Todd then poisons Mrs. Lovett before being apprehended

and hanged.

MusicalSweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a 1979 musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and libretto by Hugh Wheeler. The musical is based on the 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond.Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre on March 1, 1979 and ran for 557 performances. It was directed by Harold Prince with musical staging by Larry Fuller. It starred Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. The musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years' transportation on false charges. When he learns from his former landlady Mrs. Lovett that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by the judge who wrongly transported him (Judge Turpin by name), he vows revenge.

John Crook

John Crook is a cutler. His job consist in sell and repair all kinds of cutting

instruments, from kitchen knives to swords, but mostly he specialise in

razors.

He has a shop in Holborn, London called Pistol and C.

Elmer Plummer

Elmer Plummer is a barber at Newgate Prison, he is a prisoner for self.

He was serving a four-year sentence for theft at the time of Sweeney

Todd’s arrival. He made a good living in the prision, thanks to the

large number of rich prisioner.

Elmer taught his friend Sweeny how to be a barber and how to steal.

Thomas Pecket Prest

Thomas is a witter on Fleet Street. He’s interested in Sweeney after his

arrival on Fleet Street, and he writted a book about him.

Frank Raymond

Frank was the reporter for the Daily Courant during the trial of

Sweeney Todd.

In his entire career as a reporter, he never saw such excitement for

a criminal trial.

Margery Lovett

She’s his first husband died under mysterious circumstances. She had a Bakery on Fleet Street and she became very popular because she used the human meat of Sweeney for made the pies. She poisoned himself when she was arrested with Sweeney by the police.

Sweeney Todd ISweeney Todd was an orphan because his parents dead in a cold winter and he went to the shop of John Crook for became in to apprentice. Sweeney was arrested because probably he stole in the shop of John Crook.Sweeney pass five years in Newgate Prison, there he met Elmer Plummer. He was a Barber of the prison and he taught his profession to Sweeney.Sweeney left the prison at the age of 19 but he became more angry and violent with the society. He start working as a travelling barber .He committed his first murder when he killed a drunken men called Hyde Park Corner.

Sweeney Todd IILater, Sweeney earn enough money to buy a shop in Fleet Street. The shop was small and dark with a single barber’s chair in the middle of the floor. He committed many murders and he invent a mechanism for facilitate his crimes.The mechanism consisted in with a special button the chair thought the victims in a hole under the shop.Mrs Lovett use the human meat of the victims of Sweeney to made pies. But one day the police met the hole with the victims and arrested Sweeney and Mrs Lovett.Later Mrs Lovett poisoned himself and Sweneey went to the tribunal and he was hanged in front of the crowd.
