More than 1200 acres and three generations of the Bishop family comprise Sweet Grass Farms, located south of the eastern Upper Peninsula town of Pickford. Horses, cattle, and hay have been staples on Sweet Grass Farms since the 1970s.

Today the Bishops have a new focus: lambs finished with non-GMO grains. The next generation of Bishops, JD and Erika, have grown the flock to almost 400 ewes, including the latest spring lambs. Reaching their goal of increasing it to 1000 plus ewes within the next three years will make Sweet Grass Farms the largest pastured lamb farm in Michigan, and one that relies on sustainable practices. Instead of corn as a finishing grain, the Bishops have sourced Upper Peninsula-grown GMO free barley and oats.

Their commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there. The Bishops have been working toward the Michigan Agricultural and Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) certification – an innovative program that helps farms minimize agricultural pollution risks and protect Michigan water systems. Safeguarding all components the Upper Peninsula watershed shows the value of the MAEAP certification and the Bishop’s commitment to protecting the land and water they rely on.

Cherry Capital Foods is proud to be partnering with Sweet Grass Farms and RRR Meat Processing in Buckley to bring their lamb to restaurants, stores and consumers throughout Michigan.

• GMO-free feed • MAEAP certified • Raised on pasture
