INTRODUCTION (1) Swimmer crab included in to important export
comodity after shrimp and fish. the raw material for crab meat processing plant in
getting the swimmer crab catches of fishermen at the sea.
Indonesian ministry regulation no.1 on year 2015 regarding prohibition of catching lobster, swimmer crab and mud crab.
The solution is to do aquaculture in the pond. So far, mostly people think that swimmer crab
culture in the pond is impossible. MCBA Jepara has culture swimmer crab in the
pond since 2002 till 2006.

INTRODUCTION (2) Problems :1. Swimmer crab’s SR is still low2. Dependence on fresh feed, although there is
change to give artificial feed.
Based on Ministry’s Regulation No. 01 in 2015, MCBA Jepara started again to culture swimmer crab in the pond in both ponds belongs to MCBA and the farmers.
In 2015, we have culture swimmer crab in MCBA’s pond and gave baby swimmer crab’s aid to farmers group in 3 districts, ie. Pangandaran, Pati and Demak to culture swimmer crab in both ponds and mangrove’s area.

crab’s aid to farmers group, technical input and do final monitoring of activity.
Operational fund and operational activity was done by farmer’s group, Theirself.

Sept 28, 2015 : 1. No sea water show
off get in to the pond, hot themperature and high salinity (40 ppt).
2. Milkfish and swimmer crab died.
3. Size : swimmer crab harvested as much 12 kgs, with size 35 pcs/kgs (28,5 – 30 g/pcs) and milkfish as much 18 kgs, with size 12 pcs/kgs (83,3 g/pcs).
4. SR of swimmer crab = 2,8 % (420 pcs).

• They didn’t do harvesting due to the place is in mangrove’s (conservation) area so they let Them for continuity.
1. Swimmer crab has been harvested (they took the male only) with size 3 - 4 pcs/kgs. ± 100 – 150 kgs.
2. They let the female mature ovaries so they can get many baby swimmer crab in mangrove’s area.

CONCLUSION Swimmer crab cultivation able to be
done in the pond. Swimmer crab cultivation as
conservation of mangrove area could be done using pen culture with hapa net.
SUGGESTION Swimmer crab culture in ponds must be
considered with growing season, stocking densities , feeding strategy and cannibalism rate reduction by providing shelter.
To increase the productivity of ponds , we recommend that polyculture system can be used during swimmer crab culture (seaweed / milkfish/ tiger shrimp).
We need to do a study of feed formulations which is made to raise the swimmer crab.
