T E S T I M O N I A L SSt James Secondary College is a school with heart. We chose to send our son to ‘Jimmies’ because the school community follow inclusive practices in everything they do. Including all students regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs or country of origin met the values of our family and community. Our son is valued by his friends, staff and school community. As a consequence of this, he has strengthened his social skills, academic ability and sense of self. He is very proud of his school and feels that he belongs. This means everything to our son and family.

Our son has made the leap from special education to mainstream and is a valued member of his school community. The curriculum is adapted to suit his needs and while the teachers are not specifically special education trained, they are dedicated, creative and flexible and embrace diversity. From our experience, the attitude of the school is the key to successful inclusive education.

It was important for me to find a school where my daughter would fit in. Our admission interview concluded with the statement, “Different is our normal”. My daughter said ”Mum, I think we’ve found my school!”. She is part of an extraordinary tapestry of cultures, which has helped her to become a compassionate, thoughtful and kind young woman. This can only happen with the help of the committed, compassionate staff of St James.

Our family have been associated with St James College for many years as we have 7 children who have all, or are currently attending the school.

We recognise that all 7 children are very different and are grateful that they have all been able to feel a sense of belonging within the school environment.

The teachers and staff are always extremely helpful and understanding. We have been heavily involved with the sporting program, in particular the Basketball program led by Kirron Byrne which has seen our children excel both on and off the court, winning state championships and representing the Queensland Secondary Schools at a National level.

Recently our daughter was able to secure a full scholarship to a Junior College in the United States after completing her Year 12 certificate at St James. We acknowledge the assistance of the College staff in her receiving such an opportunity.

St James offers a very unique environment that allows any student to excel if they have the desire. We are extremely excited to continue on our journey with all of the staff and community at the College.

Our daughter has been a thoroughly involved member in the Jimmies community since she commenced in year 7 two years ago. Jimmies has provided her with a rich learning environment, further developing her capacity as a high academic achiever, nurturing her creative talents and supporting her sporting success. The small class sizes, skilled staff and continuous opportunities give our (previously shy) daughter the encouragement that she needs to be courageous.

Despite being a small school, St James packs in great co-curricular activities with sports programs and fabulous cultural events. Our son has embraced St James’ multicultural and co-educational make up and it has helped prepare him for living in a global society. We feel fortunate to have found St James and recommend it unreservedly to anyone.

We like St James College because it is a small school environment with a mix of different nationalities. The College offers a broad curriculum and high academic standards. Our daughter is able to develop her skills and talents with the wonderful support of a well-qualified team of teachers.

I just want to thank you and the staff of St James College for making our son so contented and enabling him to strive for his dream of one day entering the world of medical professionals. Thank you for everything you have done and are doing for our son. He is a very happy, relaxed and studious young man since experiencing the St James brand of education.

I am beyond impressed with the staff's knowledge and understanding of my daughter's needs. Words cannot describe how happy we are. The learning environment at your school is amazing and full credit to you and your staff for being aware of her particular strengths and special needs. The change in my daughter's attitude to school has been a complete turnaround since leaving primary school and I thank God every day that we found St James!

Our son was chosen to receive a Student with Potential Award from QUT. He was extremely pleased to have been recognised by the school and QUT and we in turn were pleased for him. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for recognising him and encouraging him in this way.
