The Story ...

... of Grünbeck WasseraufbereitungGmbH began in 1949 when Loni andJosef Grünbeck founded the company“Wasserchemie und Apparatebau”.Within a short period of time, addition-al sales offices were set up, at first inSouthern Germany. After 1967,Grünbeck shifted focus from reseller tomanufacturer. Grünbeck has enjoyed a fast-paced development ever since.Sales and headcount have grown dra-matically. New storage, production and administration facilities have beencontinuously adapted to the requiredcapacities and have ensured sustain-able, successful growth.

The opening of our new R & D centre"Technikum" in 1991 marked anothermilestone in Grünbeck’s history. In 1995

the company’s premises were expandedconsiderably, and in 1997 a new logis-tics centre as well as the production

facility of one of Grünbeck’s subsidiarieswere opened up. In 2006, we added twonew, modern assembly lines to makeGrünbeck even more productive. We will continue this success story to keepour edge as a leading solution providerin the field of water treatment.

The employees always occupied centrestage in the business philosophy of Loniand Josef Grünbeck. As early as 1968,they introduced Grünbeck’s participa-tion model of a ”Social Partnership“which has been continuously improvedover the years. Today, employees canacquire shares in the company. Our water works provide excellent drink-ing water which may be enjoyed with-out any additional treatment. Our drink-ing water contains substances that areare beneficial to our health such asmagnesium, calcium, iron and minerals.However, only 2 - 5 % of the water con-sumed in a household is actually usedfor drinking or cooking. Bathing andshowering, flushing the toilet, doing thelaundry, etc. account for a far greaterportion of the water we consume. Here,these substances are rather undesired.

In recent years, the energy issue hastaken centre stage. Irrespective of thetechnology used to generate energy,water is a central element in the pro-cess, in particular as cooling or boilerfeed water. The water used originatesfrom inland water, privately ownedwells or public water supplies. Prior to its application, however, it has to be treated according to the respectivetechnical specifications since it con-tains too many substances that mightinterfere with the processes and causedamage to the system – even if it is of drinking water quality. Dependingon the water quality and the application,the appropriate treatment processesmust be carefully chosen and tuned.
