Scholarship eligibility/selection criteria To be eligible for a Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship, you must:

• be a Year 12 student and commencing a Swinburne degree in the year after leaving school

• achieve a minimum ATAR of 95.00

• meet the prerequisites of your chosen degree.

NOTE:

• Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships are not deferrable.

• International students are eligible for consideration.

• SEAS or Bonus Subjects points are not applicable for this scholarship.

How to applyThere is no need to apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship†. As long as you preference a Swinburne degree and achieve an ATAR of 95 or higher you will automatically be offered a Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship and entry into the High Achievers Program. All eligible students will be contacted once Year 12 results are released in December (Victorian Year 12) and January (other states and IB)..

Accommodation application deadline † While there is no need to apply for the scholarship, students

Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships

The Swinburne Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship is a prestigious award to study any Swinburne on-campus degree.

The Scholarship is worth $5000 per annum for the normal duration of your chosen degree* and includes membership into the High Achievers Program, plus a one-off payment of $2000 towards an international study experience.

* Scholarship payments will be suspended for the duration of Industry Placement, this is because students already receive payment as part of the placement.

High Achievers ProgramAt Swinburne we understand that high-performing students need opportunities to develop and excel in their field of interest. This is why we’ve created the High Achievers Program for all Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship recipients.

Being part of this program means you’ll have access to:

• an academic mentor to assist in tailoring your Swinburne study experience to your goals

• leadership workshops

• a guaranteed place in a degree-related study tour

• research or industry projects

• academic or industry mentoring

• networking opportunities to share insights with like-minded peers.

International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA) ScholarshipThe International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA) is a non-profit association with members in 38 countries, representing 257 major companies and aviation authorities. IAWA is dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in the aviation and aerospace industries.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $6,500 per year for 1 year.

Eligibility/selection criteriaTo be eligible, applicants must:

• be an International student, an Australian citizen, a New Zealand Citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa

• be a female student studying full time in an aviation undergraduate or post graduate course

• submit a personal statement of no more than 500 words outlining your interest and passion for aviation and financial need for the scholarship

• submit a referee report outlining leadership quality and community participation.

Sir Reginald Ansett Scholarship – AviationThe Sir Reginald Ansett Scholarship for Aviation is offered to assist a student with costs associated with aviation studies, enabling them to realise their passion for an aviation career and full academic potential by reducing the need to work outside of study.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for a period of three years. The total value of the scholarship is $30,000.


• be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa

• be a commencing student studying full-time in a single or double Aviation or Aviation (Management) undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2018

• have completed Year 12 in 2018 (or in 2017, and taken a gap year in 2017)

• achieve a minimum ATAR of 85.00

• provide evidence of financial hardship (documents such as a bank statement, salary slips, centrelink statement and/or personal statement)

• demonstrate a passion for an aviation career in a personal statement of 500 words or less.

• provide two referee reports (written in the last 2 years) to support your application: – an academic reference – from a person competent to comment on

your capacity to undertake/continue tertiary studies e.g. a subject coordinator and/or a school principal.

Apollo Fund – First in Family ScholarshipThe First in Family Scholarship is awarded to commencing first business students who will be the first in their family to attend university and who has experienced disadvantage.

Rural and regional students are encourage to apply.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $7500 per year, for a period of three years. The total value of the scholarship is $22,500.

carsales Foundation ScholarshipThe carsales Foundation Scholarship is focused on encouraging women to undertake a career in the technology industry. This scholarship provides $7,500 to support a female student with demonstrated academic ability and desire to undertake undergraduate studies in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $7,500 a year for up to 4 years.

Digitary is a web based solution company that enables institutions to securely issue academic awards and other official documents online.

ValueTwo scholarships are available, valued at $7000 each.

The Malcolm Styles Local Government Scholarship aims to support a regional or rural-based (preferably) engineering student studying in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Professional) with an interest in local government.

Value$4,000 per year for 1 year


• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent resident with Humanitarian visa.

• be a commencing student studying full-time in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Professional) degree at Swinburne in Semester 1 in the year the scholarship is awarded.

Liberty OneSteel ScholarshipOneSteel is Australia’s premier manufacturer of long steel products and is a leading metals distribution company in Australia and New Zealand. The Liberty OneSteel Scholarship Program was established in 2016 to support Process/Metallurgy oriented students undertaking science or engineering related studies, and electrical and mechanical engineers.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $3,000 per year for the standard duration of the course, for a maximum period of up to three years.


• be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or holders of an Australian permanent Humanitarian visa

• be enrolled full-time in their second year of study in either a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science with Majors encompassing: – Materials or Process/Metallurgy – Mechanical – Electrical

• have obtained 100 credit points at this University (exemptions not included), and attained a credit average in their first year of study

Violet Louise Bonner Postgraduate Scholarship for WomenThis scholarship was established by Swinburne alumna Kate Brown in memory of her late mother Violet Louise Bonner, this Scholarship aims to support female postgraduate students to complete their studies in the sciences, particularly where their research aims to translate into innovative products or processes to assist the community.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $3000 for one year


• be a female Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident or a holder of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa.

• have commenced a full time science, engineering or technology postgraduate on campus degree in the year the scholarship is awarded.

• provide undergraduate results and/or any postgraduate results.

• provide an academic reference from a person qualified to comment on academic studies, preferably a subject or course coordinator.

• provide evidence of financial hardship and/or personal hardship (documents such as a bank statement, salary slip, centerlink statement, and/or personal statement).

George Alexander Foundation ScholarshipsThese scholarships have been made available by The George Alexander Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1972 by George Alexander AM to provide grants for public charitable purposes in Australia. Reflecting the founder’s special interests, the scholarships offer talented students access and opportunity to fulfil their potential. The scholarships are an important investment in the future of individual young Australians and their ongoing contribution to the broader community.

Students offered a George Alexander Foundation Scholarship may undertake any on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne.

ValueSeven scholarships are available. Each scholarship is valued at $8000 per year, for a period of three years. The total value of the scholarship is $24,000.


• be an Australian citizen or a Australian permanent resident.

• be a commencing student studying full-time in an on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, in the year the scholarship is awarded.

• have completed Year 12 in 2018 (or 2017, and taken a gap year in 2018)

• have achieved a minimum ATAR of 80.00

• demonstrate need to reside away from home in order to undertake study

• provide a Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)

• provide a personal statement (750–1000 words) addressing the following criteria: – your academic standing – the measure of leadership and leadership potential demonstrated

in your academic and personal life – the level and quality of community participation undertaken by

you (including volunteering, work history, sporting and other community activities undertaken in/outside of school)

– the reasons for selecting the particular program of study in which you are enrolled and your long term goals as a result of this study

– the degree to which the scholarship would enable you to best meet your educational and employment goals (what would it mean for you to receive a GAF scholarship?)

Goldsmith Family Indigenous Success ScholarshipThe Goldsmith Family Indigenous Success Scholarship has been established to encourage Indigenous students to undertake any undergraduate studies at Swinburne University.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $7,500 per year for the normal duration of the course, for a maximum period of up to five years.


• be an Australian citizen and recognised as an indigenous Australian

• be a commencing student studying full-time at Swinburne in an undergraduate degree in the year the scholarship is awarded.

• have achieved a minimum ATAR of 60.00, or equivalent

• provide a written statement of 500 words outlining career aspirations

• for Film and Television courses, the following alternative entry requirements apply: – portfolio of creative work – academic transcript of previous studies

Kath Watson Scholarship for WomenThe Kath Watson Foundation was established to support female students from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake and/or continue tertiary education and to achieve their full academic potential by reducing the need to work outside of study.

Students offered a Kath Watson Scholarship may undertake one of the following courses:

• a full-time vocation education course: Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma

• a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $2000 per year for the normal duration of the degree up to a maximum period of five years.



• be a female over 25 years of age or older by 1 January in the year the scholarship commences.

• commencing or current student studying full-time in a course at Certificate IV level and above at Swinburne in Semester 1 in the year the scholarship is awarded.

• demonstrate and provide evidence of financial need and educational disadvantage. Disadvantage may include: – financial difficulty or low income – disability or medical condition – delay or interruption to career or studies because of family



• demonstrate a commitment to study and career aspirations (provide a personal statement not more than 500 words)

• have had an interrupted education, i.e. at least two years away from full-time study.

Rosemary Simpson ScholarshipThe Rosemary Simpson Scholarship has been established by the Jolimont Foundation to assist Swinburne students from rural and regional areas to undertake and complete a university education and enable them to achieve their full potential by reducing the need to work outside of study.

ValueThe scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year for the normal duration of the degree for up to a maximum of five years.


• be an Australian citizen

• be a commencing student studying full-time in an on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, in the year the scholarship is awarded, with preference given to Year 12 school leavers

• have relocated from a rural and regional area* in order to study at Swinburne

• provide evidence of financial hardship and/or personal hardship (documents such as a bank statement, salary slips, Centrelink statement, and/or personal statement)

• submit a personal statement of 500 word or less to demonstrate leadership qualities and/or community participation.

• provide two referee reports outlining the applicants suitability for the scholarship: – Character reference – from a current or past employer or a person

Swinburne Welcome ScholarshipsSwinburne Welcome Scholarships provide opportunities for holders of Bridging Visa ‘E’ (BVE’s) (subclass V050), Temporary Protection Visas (TPV) (subclass V785) and Safe Haven Enterprise Visas (SHEV) (subclass V790) to access Undergraduate, Certificate, Foundation/Unilink and Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses at Swinburne University.

Before submitting a scholarship application, you must first apply for a course at Swinburne. Your course application will be assessed to ensure you meet the course entry requirements.

If you have applied for a course through VTAC, please let us know by including your VTAC ID in your personal statement.

ValueAll Welcome Scholarships comprise a full fee waiver.

If the course is longer than 12 months and you hold a Temporary Protection Visa (TPV) or a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) and lose your Special Benefit as a direct result of this enrolment at Swinburne, you may be eligible for $7,500 per annum for the normal duration of your course. Part time students would receive this sum on a pro-rata basis.


• be a holder of either a Bridging Visa 'E' (V050), a Temporary Protection Visa (V785) or a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (V790)

• have submitted a course application through VTAC or directly to Swinburne

• have submitted a scholarship application

• be a commencing full time student in the year the scholarship is awarded. Part time enrolment will be considered under special circumstances

Australian Federation of Air Pilots and Australian Air Pilots Mutual Benefit Fund Scholarship The Australian Federation of Air Pilots and the Australian Air Pilots Mutual Benefit Fund (AFAP and MBF) have a proud history of supporting aviation education through a university scholarship program in cooperation with a number of academic aviation institutions in Australia. Together, AFAP and MBF have extended this program to Swinburne by offering two scholarships of $3000 each to assist aviation students in their pursuit of becoming a professional pilot.

Piers Fowler Aviation Tour ScholarshipThe Piers Fowler Aviation Tour Scholarship is awarded to students undertaking the Aviation Study Tour (AVA20012) to support their airfares on this tour. The study tour is offered every two years and requires students to participate in a 15-30 day industry tour which provides students with a fascinating insight into the aviation industry. It gives them an opportunity to engage with the industry by visiting a number of major international organisations in key areas of the aviation industry.


Each scholarship recipient will be given the opportunity of an industry mentor.

These grants and scholarships have been made possible through funding provided by the Commonwealth Department of Education – Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program (HEPPP).

Due to Commonwealth funding requirements pathways and vocational education, postgraduate and international students are ineligible to apply for these benefits.
