St. Moritz is not simply a holiday resort. St. Moritz was the birthplaceof Alpine winter holidays (1864) and the venue for two Winter Olympic Games.

And yet: St. Moritz originally owed its fame to its therapeutic springs, which have been known for over 3,000 years and which helped establish

the town as a spa destination.

The breathtaking landscape, some of the world‘s most famous hotels,world-class events, haute cuisine and an outstanding range of leisure

and shopping opportunities. Visitors from all over the world lovethe modern Alpine lifestyle of St. Moritz.

In summer, boats trim their sails to the wind out on the lakeand golfers try to use the thin air for long hits on the two 18-hole

golf courses, one of them is more than 120 years old.Up on the peak of the Corviglia, hikers tackle routes with stunning views

that take them up to 3,000 metres in altitude. Meantime, bikers follow their own trails, those around St. Moritz are among the world‘s most attractive.

When it comes to winter, St. Moritz has always been a trendsetter. After all, this is where winter tourism was born and modern winter sports invented.

In February 2017, the Corviglia slopes will play host to the Alpine World Ski Championships for the fifth time.

The St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic bob run is the world’slast remaining natural ice run.

ALLEGRA AND WELCOME TO THE OLDEST GOLF CLUB OF SWITZERLAND

To play golf at 1700 m above sea level in a breathtaking alpine setting and in one of the most beautiful valleys anywhere - to play golf on a

Past Swiss Hickory Open Champions

Roger Furrer from SWITZERLAND

It was his hickory debut and a neck to neck battle against PGA Professional Perry Somers from Australia, the ac-tual Hickory World Champion of 2011. At the end the Canadian-Tour-Player Roger Furrer won the silver trophy with a winning 76 and so became the first Swiss Hickory Open Champion.

Martin Rominger from SWITZERLAND

The local born Golf Professional and member of the Asian and Challen-ge Tours, Martin Rominger, happily raised the silver trophy on his home course. In glorious summer weather he shot a 4 over par 76, to become the 2012 Swiss Hickory Open Champion.

Claus Mühlfeit from GERMANY

The German born Claus Mühlfeit , who plays nearly of scratch was able to prevail by a par round of 72 against reputable hickory competitors. This is not surprising, since his hickory coach is none other than Paolo Quirici. Claus became the first non-Swiss winner of the Swiss Hickory Championship.

The Hickory World Champion

How did you discover the game of hickory golf?

P.Q : "I have discovered Hickory by chance when meeting Enrico Degiacomi

at Lugano Golf Club. He let me try to hit one 3 wood on the 18TH hole. I had

such a good feel that I played the Swiss Hickory Championship 2012 that

same year with a rental set and from there I got my personal hickory set".

What is the main difference between modern and hickory golf?

P.Q : "Hickory golf is the game the way it was played 100 years ago.

I believe that a lot of the old golf courses are better and most pleasent

to play with Hickories as the modern equipment make some of the courses

obsolete. Bunkers and other hazards are in the wrong places as the ball

travels a lot further these days. The one aspect that facinates me most

is the fact that you play with clubs that have a history behind and that

you can recall some times".

Will there be a hickory golf boom?

P.Q : "I don't think so as the old clubs are rare and difficult to find.

Nevertheless modern hickories are available. It would be great to have

some of the old golf clubs with shorter courses to be allocated as favorite

hickory courses. That would make a certain growth to the hickory golf".

Paolo QuiriciDuring the summer of 2012 Paolo has discovered his love for hickory golf. Since then his Hickory Palmares with two US Pro Hickory Open titles in 2013 and 2014 as well as the title of the World Hickory Open Champion in 2013 made him the leading hickory player at the moment.

Hickory and History

Hickory Golf is the traditional variation of golf played with clubs whose shafts are made of Hickory wood. The small wooden club heads are crafted

by a woodworker whilst the iron ones are hand-forged. Instead of being numbered, hickory golf clubs are defined by fine-sounding names such

as «Spoon» (3 wood), «Brassie» (2 wood), «Mashie» (iron 5/6) or «Niblick» (pitching wedge). The club grips are made from leather.

Golf clubs with Hickory shafts used to be standard until 1932.Over the last years Hickory Golf has become a synonym for

"old style of play". More and more players are taking up this kind of golf worldwide. There are more reasons behind this choice.

It is considered a new challenge by a growing number of devotees. It is relaxing – a small shoulder bag is enough to carry six or seven clubs.

The goal it sets is not the score itself, but rather the pleasure of walking freely in the middle of nature in the company of some good friends.

Hickory Golf players wear the traditional apparel : gentlemen are dressed in breeches, a shirt and a tie,

ladies with a skirt or breeches and a blouse.

Playing with original hickory golf clubs that are more than 80 years old is a fascinating experience. A pleasure that makes you feel the

Spirit of the Old Game!

Association of Hickory Golfers

web www.ahg-golfers.com · mail [email protected]

The Association of Hickory Golfers - AHG was founded in summer 2012 with the purpose of working as a platform for vintage golf lovers and Hickory

golf players. The association offers its members a rich array of events which invigorate the spirit of every Hickory golf enthusiast throughout the year.

The activities organised by AHG are subdivided into four groups:

On Course Included in this group are the Swiss Hickory Championship Days

in St. Moritz and others.

Cocktail entre AmisOn a regular basis, AHG entertains its members with off-course events

that take place in different and specially selected locations. Appealing and varying framework programms supplement such events.

Play and Pleasure Play nine hole hickory golf in a fun way to attract the non hickory golfers to this cruising golf style and to show them how relaxing and great fun it is.

Delicious Golf Days All AHG members can take part in exclusive Hickory Golf outings.

The programme also includes delightful and scenic short trips - on such occasions gastronomy is at least as important as golf and certainly

more important than the score – as well as the participation in international Hickory Championships and Tournaments.

The membership fees for a one-time joining fee and annual subscription are on a very moderate basis. For more informations visit our homepage.
