SWOT Analysis Worksheet Student Success: Recruitment, Admissions, Enrollment, Advising & Retention

Leading Strength: Faculty • Can help with recruitment • Can share Alumni success stories with

current students

Leading Opportunity: Business Relationships • Open college events to everyone • Find recent alumni grads have them talk

to current students

Other topic discussions: The group agreed that “inconsistent messages and lack of standardization” is a key weakness; however, none of our strengths really help in this situation. This weakness:

a. Hurts enrollment because people get frustrated from being shuffled around b. Students get “lost” along the way c. Although we may be using same procedures at South and Deerwood, other

campuses aren’t following the same requirements. Many students get frustrated with the inconsistency collegewide.

Threat(s): Online education, Declining budgets and Underprepared students:

a. Need to find a method to guide people through the process from start to completion.

Schedule building Strengths:

• Wide modality • Deans are accessible and we “know” them • Faculty are agreeable • Schedule is built around the timing of students

Opportunities in Schedule building: • Collegial team, attempt to come together

• Because of our size we provide students with a lot of options • Toni Southerland would like to see a mock schedule for first semester

freshman. Both day and night class schedules to assist students in picking classes.

Weakness in Schedule building: • Haven’t come together collegewide to complete schedules

The group members agreed they would like to have an honors club at STH/DWC • Could have several groups, based on careers/programs of study • Ideas on what to name the club are welcome

There were no further items up for discussion and the meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm.
