Accessibility and opennessusually everybody is able and allowed to read and add content

Edit function and log of edits (versioning)content can be changed and new information can be added; in additionall actions are traced in a log file/document

Content is constantly changingas everybody can change the content, information can change as well

Editors need to be more intuitiveoften editors are not used to this technology, so wikis are not asdynamic as they could be

Difficulties to trust content; not professionally editedas there is no professional editor, users often do not really trustthe information of wikis

Difficulties to gain support of the management for implementation as wikis break systematically with existing control mechanisms, need ofstrong management sponsors is required

Opportunities:

Creates knowledge and communitiesall the information of your company in one source, the editors and users can see who is a specialist of a topic which again allows community building

Wisdom of crowdsthe collective knowledge of a group is more comprehensive than the knowledge of a single person; the more information from different users you bring in a wiki, the more knowledge you receive

Fast knowledge transferthere is no usual editing process; what is typed in, can be seen by every user

Connection to other applicationsa wiki can be used as a basis for enterprise communications, it can link or integrate applications like microblogs

Flexible and expandable knowledge resource as more and more people load up information into a wiki, a collaborative knowledge base is created

Threats:

Users can erase contentthis might happen by failure or by vandalism

Sensitive company data in open wikisnot every information in a company should be open to every employee

Copyright issues not all information brought into a wiki is necessarily shareable. There might be a copyright on some information
