SEXTING by Bethan Gwanas This is the result of three years of work which has included initial performances in schools, practical workshops, a lot of input by young people and a great deal of discussion.

The drama is in response to publicity about young people who get hurt or abused by the incorrect use of digital social networking sites and the media. The production is full of information which can be used as a starting point for discussions in the classroom. In this booklet we provide photographs and excerpts from the script to remind you of the characters in the show, together with questions which will help to promote discussion. We trust that the performances will be of interest and also of use to you and your pupils. We would be pleased to receive any comments you wish to make.

Points to remember Thank you for welcoming us to your school again. This is the third time that this production will tour. In order to make our make our work easier, we would ask you to kindly remember the following points. We respect and appreciate your opinion and comments on our work; we always look forward to receiving these after our visit. It is essential that a teacher be present during the performances in your school or when your school visits another school or other venues. When the performance is held in your school it will be necessary to have the space empty and the floor needs to be clean; we would be grateful if you could move any items of furniture or equipment out of the way before we arrive. If you are not sure of the arrangements, please phone Arad Goch. Members of the company should be able to assist you with minor problems, but if there are any major questions please phone Arad Goch. If you need to make a complaint please contact the Office in Arad Goch - do not discuss with the actors who are visiting your school. We have made detailed arrangements with every school that expressed a wish to be a part of this project. National Eisteddfod in August 2012.

Perhaps these comments and questions will be of use to you when you discuss the drama and its theme with the young people. It is possible to use these questions side by side with the excerpts of the script in the next section.

ATHRO: Is there anybody you could talk to? It’s important to talk about whatever’s bothering

you, Lowri. You know that. And whatever it is, it’s affecting your work, and you can’t afford that, not with the GCSEs so close.

LOWRI: I know sir.

ATHRO: Lowri, you have a bright future ahead of you. I don’t want to see you missing out

because ... you can’t share your problems, whatever they may be.

DISCUSSING THE DRAMA AS A PIECE OF ART When taking productions to schools, Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch main aim is to enable pupils to see

contemporary Theatre of the highest level and which is relevant in its appeal to young people.

As well as enabling young people to discuss important topics, we are keen to assist the discussion of art. We

hope that you, the teachers, will encourage the pupils to do this: these following questions and observations

offer guidelines to start the discussion.

Was it a good story?

How did the drama and the performance pull you in to the story?

Whilst watching the drama – what were you thinking about?

Whilst watching the drama, did you notice that you were smiling at something?

Or did you feel anger towards one of the characters? Why?

Did the drama remind you about someone you know or of something that’s happened to someone you know?

How credible were the characters? Why?

What type of language was used: natural / formal / classical / poetic / descriptive / hard/ light?

Was the dialogue in long sentences or short phrases? How did this affect the rhythm of the drama? Did this

help to hold your interest?

The drama shows pieces of the story: how did the script and the directing manage to hold all the pieces

together?

Did the story flow well? Did the story make sense as a whole? Why/why not?

Did the stage images and movement help when telling the story? How? /Why? / Why not?

How did the set / lights / sound add to the performance?

How did the set/costumes/lighting/sound add to the theatrical experience?
