Dear Sir/Madam:

Greetings of Peace!

Disaster, devastation and economic dislocationthese three ills are realities that plague the Philippine environment. For instance, we now experience global warming and climate change. This extreme weather event escalates as destructive human activities like the operation of the dirtiest source of energy coal plants continue.

In Bataan, an alarming proliferation of operational and soon-to-be operated and constructed coal-fired power plants poses risks of grave ecological destruction, threat to peoples health and livelihood alongside dubious economic gains programs and policies.

Presently, there are two coal plants in operation: the 600MW coal-fired power plant located in Brgy. Alas-asin, Mariveles operated and managed by GN Power Corporation and the 4 x 30 MW power plants located inside the former Bataan Refinery Corporation. Another 600MW coal plant owned by San Miguel Corporation is soon to be constructed in Limay town.

Coal energy may be cheap in the short term, but its dirty operation is far more expensive in the long-term. It is high time for policymakers and other persons of influence to change that Business-as-usual mindset. STEP-Gen Struggle for Environmental Protection and Regeneration and Youth for Nationalism and Democracy (YND) finds it imperative to create awareness and engage the youth in saving the environment. A 4-day Summer Youth Camp with Basic Theater Production in the theme: Kabataan! Sumangkot, Kumilos para sa Karapatan sa Kinabukasan at Kalikasan will be held on April 19-22, 2012 at the Dominican Hills, Brgy. Gabon, Abucay, Bataan. We aim to; gather around eighty (80) young people from different universities, communities, and religious denominations, to be able to create awareness and equip them as young leaders an understanding of the environments state of affairs, energy policies and alternative sources of energy.

To effectively equip them, we invited experts and experienced resource persons.

STEPGen and YND invite you or your organization to join us in this meaningful activity. Registration fee is Php 1, 500.00 this will cover food, accommodation and fare. Please bring tents, flashlight, personal medicines and other camping tools.

For queries and confirmation, contact the secretariat at mobile numbers 09273070466 // 09355479367 and look for Precy or Rosanna.

Let us join hands in this life-saving endeavour. Thank you and more power!

Respectfully Yours,

Elmer Yuri Arisgado
