    MEET DR DANIEL FRIMPONGArticle by Chris KeaneThere were congratulations all round when DrDaniel Frimpong, a member of CPA Australia andthe Institute of Chartered Accountants, was recentlypromoted to become a senior lecturer atCQUniversity Sydney.

    Like other academics who teach in the accounting

    and marketing streams, Daniel brought with him astore of industry knowledge and experience whenhe began lecturing in 1998. He accumulated hisbreadth of industry knowledge by pursuing asuccessful management career in the banking, telecommunications and informationtechnology sectors.

    In the 1990s, Daniel rubbed shoulders with the big business league. He worked for severalmajor corporations including Westpac, Nortel and Fujitsu, in both Australia and Japan. Hisformer banking role saw him employed as Manager of Management Reporting in Westpac'shead office in Martin Place, Sydney. He was responsible for planning, analysis and reportingon a $10 billion asset portfolio held by Westpac's Asset Management Group.

    Deep Hemantkumar Ghelani, an Indian

    national studying a Bachelor of IT atCQUniversity Sydney passed awaytragically on 13th June 2010. He wasenjoying an afternoon at Kiama with friendswhen he went missing off the rocks near theKiama Blow Hole.

    The 22nd year old was described by friendsas a loving person who was dedicated tohis studies and career. His body wasrepatriated to his home of Gujarat, India.

    Anyone effected by this tragedy andneeding support are encouraged to speak

    the Student Services staff on Level 1.

    Leading organisations and businesses were invited toCQUniversity Sydney to attend the inaugural WorkingTogether With Business event organised by the Training,Employment & Career Coaching (TECC) Unit on Thursday

    17th June.

    It was a great opportunity to welcome these organisations toour campus, make them aware of our students employabilityskills, and foster ongoing business relationships, says TECCCoordinator, Rodney Yeomans.

    The networking function was organised to develop businessrelationships with key industry organisations, promote theemployability of CQUniversity Sydney students, and to work towards securing future part time,internship, work experience, and volunteer placements for our students.

    Shakir graduated from CQUniversity Australia in 2006with a Bachelor of Information Systems and in 2008 with aMasters on Information Systems. As a graduate, he feelshe has both a prospect and a commitment to commencepositive change through an increased understanding ofour business environment and the responsible use oftechnology. It is his dream to be leading the way for theadvancement of new technologies in the field of

    Information Technology.

    Shakir is currently working as Technology Support & Domain Coordinatorat SAI Global-Espreon Ltdin Sydney. He says that CQUniversity Australia has given me all (the) skills todeal with such a renowned and large company. My role is challenging, I have learned how topush my limits and grow in confidence.

    As a young IT activist, I feel that I have both prospects and responsibility to commenceconstructive revolutionisation through our technology environment and the responsible use oftechnology. In this sense, I strongly consider that I can use my qualifications and acquaintancefor the benefit of our corporate world and society entirely. Actually, with express advances intechnology encompassing every phase of our daily lives, the information systems career path isone of the best outstanding assurances of a job for life. I am personally more than happy with

    my study career and very professional career.

    To tie in with the weeks theme ofAccess All Areas,CQUniversity Sydney students were invited to write apoem, essay or short story about libraries or access.While the standard of all entries was high, Ashish Rai(pictured right) won first prize with his moving story,

    Wireless Made it Possible. Commendations went toGinni Uppal for her poem, Library, and to RomuShrestha for her essay,Access to information: right or aprivilege?

    After 12 weeks of tutorials, lectures and assessments,staff and students were given a chance to wind downand socialise together at the End of Term party held onFriday 28th May.

    With great music courtesy of a live band and deliciousfood including vegetarian curry, butter chicken plus themouth water lamingtons, all who attended had a

    pleasurable time.

    STUDENT ASSOCIATIONOn the first weekend in July approximately 30

    CQUniversity students and staff hit the slopesof the Australian Snowy Mountains.

    We hear they all had an exciting time on thesnow fields and look forward to hearing of theiradventures and seeing the photos.
