    SYLLABUS: Sections 1.11.8, 2.12.5, 3.13.4, 4.14.7, 5.15.5, 6.16.7.Students will be expected to present solutions to problems and

    homework exercises on the blackboard. An integral part of the learningprocess for mathematics is solving mathematics problems. You will bechallenged to solve problems and prove theorems that you have not seen;my purpose is to develop analytical problem solving techniques that can beapplied to a broad range of problems. The techniques of mathematics are

    retained much more firmly if students can discover their own solutions toproblems. Students will be expected to critique other student presentationsfor understanding and correctness; this is to be done respectably. Studentsare expected to work independently on all the problems from the notes.

    Grade CalculationThe standard 10 point scale will be used:

    90 to 100 =A; 80 to

    ACCADEMIC HONESTY: Plagiarism (work presented as your own thatis not your own) and giving or receiving aid on exams in whatever formwill result in action by the University Honesty Committee. Refer to theTiger Cub for more specific details.

    ABSENCE FROM EXAMS: Refer to the Tiger Cub for a list of

    acceptable reasons for being absent from an exam, quiz or class. Anyabsence from the final exam must be cleared with your Dean's office.The final exam date cannot be changed.

    Accommodations for Disabilities: Students who require suchconsiderations should make an appointment with me during the firstweek of classes. Please bring your memo from the Program forStudents with Disabilities (PSD). If you do not have a memo, it isrecommended that you make an appointment with a member of theprofessional staff in the PSD office, 1244 Haley Center (844-2096).

    Exams and Tests Tentative Schedule:

    Test 1: Friday, January 27th. Test 2: Friday, February 17th. Mid Exam : February 28th. Test 3: Friday March 9th. Test 4: Friday March 30th.. Test 5: Friday April 13th. Final Exam: As scheduled by the University.

    Note: Cell phones and pagers (or any other instant messagingsystems) are not to be used in this class. The use of cell phones
