General introduction and difference between human growth and development and its significance in sports sceiences, methods odf studying growth longitudinal, cross-sectional and semi longitudinal growth studies related to sportsmen and women with special reference to India. General growth patterns in various body systems. Major milestones in child development.

Define adolescence. Discuss juvenile growth spurt and adolescent spurt. Sex differences in the duration and intensity of these curves. Morphological growth at adolescence, growth gradients, organization and disorganization in growth, canalization, brief introduction to senescence.
