Minutes of the Meeting To deliberate on the outline of teaching content, assignment formats and In-semester and End-semester theory paper structure, a meeting of faculty members teaching second year BTM from all colleges was held on 27th December 2016 at Dr. B. N. College of Architecture, Karve Nagar, Pune. The syllabus content was discussed unit wise in tandem with Second Year Term I syllabus and the decisions taken in Second Year Term I syllabus meeting. Following units were discussed in detail-

Unit 1 1. Ready mix concrete: Teaching: Classroom Discussion on Ready mix concrete along with market studies to be done by the students to identify the working procedures, testing and logistics. Students to be introduced to various kinds of admixtures used in RMC. Assignment: Notes on the topic. Plant visit and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description to be done in journal or in form of report. 2. Light weight concrete: Teaching: Classroom Discussion on Light weight concrete along with market studies to be done by the students to identify the manufacturing process for different market forms of LWC, the testing methods, their strength and properties and their applications in construction. Assignment: Notes on the topic. Market study, field study and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description, to be done in journal.

Unit 2

1. RCC floor slabs: one-way, two way slabs, cantilever slabs, column- beam- slab

junctions, toilet slabs, balcony slabs, canopies. Teaching: This topic to be taught in relation with TOS syllabus. Mainly the super-structure as a whole to be covered, which includes columns, beams, along with the types of slabs mentioned

above. All types of junctions between each element to be covered. Student shall refer the structural drawing for any project in order to understand, ‘How to read the structural drawing’. Site visits to be conducted to enable students to be well versed with the practical conditions on site and understand the detail for all the check points done during execution. This study shall also include the detail understanding of form-works done for various RCC elements. Assignment: Hand drawn scaled drawings for all the RCC elements, their junctions, and sections showing detail reinforcement. A reference key plan can be given for same. Detailed site visit report to be done. 2. Construction of various types of pre-cast and in-situ RCC stairs Teaching: Classroom Discussion on various precast elements and their manufacturing process to be done. Different products structural and non-structural elements to be introduced. In-situ RCC staircase construction to be taught in detail. Assignment: Hand drawn scaled drawings on different In-situ staircases shall be covered with reference to the structural members. Pre-cast stairs to be included in journal in form of sketches, text and graphical information. 3. Introduction to ferro-cement as a material and technique of construction Teaching: Students to be introduced the technic and methodology of construction in ferro-cement technology. Introduction to different products also to be covered. Application of this technic in building construction shall be introduced. Assignment: Notes and sketches with construction process detail on the topic in journal.

Unit 3 1. Types of elevators and escalators- installation process and detail Teaching: Introduction to different types of Lifts and escalators along with the related terminology, installation methods, operation from small to large scale applications. The configuration in terms of planning and design in the building considering the structural coordination for same to be done. Introduction to the GAD (General Arrangement Diagram) as given by the manufacturers to be included in the references. Assignment: The detailed information with respect to manufacturers along with different sizes, use and guidelines to be covered in journal. 2. Construction of lift shafts and machine rooms Teaching: Students to be made aware of the construction methods, provisions and guidelines done in the building. The study shall include the Lift shafts, Machine rooms, Pits, structural members and provisions in coordination with GAD provided by the manufacturers. Assignment: Scaled drawings for Vertical cross section for Lifts & Escalators. Small sketches of their Configurations with respect to the planning & norms to be done in sheet.

Unit 4 1. Windows in non- timber materials Teaching: Detail study of MS, Alluminium, PVC, UPVC windows to be covered. Standard sections with their application for all windows, with joinery and junction details to be introduced. Detailing and provisions made for same to be explained. ** As discussed in the previous syllabus meeting Bay Window shall be covered in detail. The construction detail using different materials for same can be taken in this unit. Assignment: Key elevations, plans to be given for drafting detailed drawings for various junctions, joineries and sections used in construction and installation for all types of windows shall be covered in sheet. Assignment for Bay window scaled drawing to be done in sheet and structural provisions can be covered in RCC drawings. 2. Water- proofing materials used in basement construction Teaching: Basic understanding of retaining structures to be covered, to enable students understand the need of water proofing treatments necessary for underground construction. The applications of different methods and materials used for water proofing on external & internal surfaces of these retaining structures to be focused upon. Assignment: Notes and sketches with construction process detail on the topic. Market study and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description in journal.

Examination Structure • In Semester Exam: 30 marks: After 6 Weeks of commencement of term • End Semester Exam: 70 marks: After the term end • Viva Voce: 100 Marks In-semester Examination (on unit 1, 2) (30 marks): Single section • Question 1. ( 10 marks): will consist of two sub-questions • Q.1.a) Expected answer is text description along with sketches (5 marks) (Internal options for Q.1.a may be given) • Q.1.b) Multiple choice questions/ Fill in the blanks/ Match the following (5 marks)

• Question 2. (20 marks): • Will consist of short notes on 4 topics carrying 5 marks each. • 6 topics may be given out of which students will answer any four.

End-Semester examination (on all 4 units) (70 marks): Two sections Section-1 • Question1. (20 marks): based on unit - 2. • Expected answer would include drafted scaled drawings. Internal options may be given • Question2. (15 marks): Based on unit 2, 3 & 4. • Expected answer would include short text but focus on sketches. Five topics will be given out of which candidates would answer any three for 5 marks each. Section-2 • Question 3. (20 marks): based on unit - 3, 4. • Expected answer would include sketches and description. Four topics will be given out of which candidates would answer any two for 10 marks each. • Question-4. (15 marks): Based on unit 1-6. • Expected answer would include text description with supporting sketch if required. Five topics will be given out of which candidates would answer any three for 5 marks each. Viva-voce: • Candidates will present the port-folio containing drafted drawing sheets along with journal of compiled notes on the topics and field/market observation report. Minutes: 1. Paper Setting:- a) While setting the question paper there should be clarity in all questions. b) The questions in paper should be related to information, knowledge & application. c) The paper setter & chairman should write statement about exact questions evaluation at the CAP center.

2. Answer sheet checking:- a) All examiners & chairman will meet on the first day of answer sheet checking at CAP center. b) Model answer paper along with evaluation sheet will be given at CAP center. c) The ratio for examiner is 1:40 students from each college must be there at CAP center. d) The answer sheet will start checking from the third day of the exam finished. e) All moderators should also check 1-2 sets of answer sheets before starting with moderation to get exact idea in what manner students answered & evaluate the sheets.

3. Studio Manual:- a) The Studio manual will be to maintain the standard of the subject, to understand how the subject is grading. b) The manual will be given to all colleges & must be followed by everyone. c) The studio manual will be completed before 31st May & circulated in 1st week of June to all the colleges. d) The studio manual must be on A4 size journal. e) The studio manual will contains :-

Standard requirements & details of particular topic hand drawn drawings as per Indian standards.

The syllabus content was discussed unit wise in tandem with first year syllabus and the decisions taken in first year syllabus meeting.

Unit 1

1. Sheet roof coverings

Teaching: Classroom Discussion on sheet roof covering along with market studies to be done by the students to identify the various materials available in their market, their strength and span limitations. Assignment: Notes on the topic. Market study and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description.

2. Different types of flooring and paving materials and finishes and preformed and in-situ techniques for the same.

Teaching: Classroom Discussion on flooring and paving materials along with market studies to be done by the students to identify the various natural and manufactured materials available in their market, their application. In situ flooring techniques to be discussed in reference with traditional in situ-techniques and other techniques such as IPS flooring, marble mosaic, stamped concrete, specialized timber flooring etc. Assignment: Notes on the topic. Market study, field study and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description.

3. Cement Concrete- ingredients, admixtures and additives, manufacturing/ mixing properties, placing, curing, and testing.

Teaching: Classroom Discussion on ingredients of cement concrete, grades of cement, grades of concrete and their application in RCC construction. A discussion on Placing, curing and testing of concrete can be done along with unit 6

Assignment: Notes on the topic. Market study, field study and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description.

4. Steel for reinforcement of concrete.

Teaching: Classroom Discussion on reinforcing steel, grades of steel and its application in RCC construction.

Teaching: Classroom Discussion on tools used in RCC construction can be done along with unit 6

Unit 4

Various types of sliding and folding doors Doors in non- timber materials Bay window Teaching: Classroom Discussion on Various types of sliding, folding and sliding +folding doors in timber with the technology, method of installation and hardware used. Doors in non- timber materials including steel doors (swing, collapsible and rolling shutters), aluminum doors, PVC and UPVC doors etc. to be discussed in classroom and complimented with field study. Bay window can be discussed in semester IV along with Unit 4.

Assignment: Hand drawn scaled drawings on various types of sliding, folding and sliding +folding doors in timber. Notes and sketches on doors in non- timber materials based on market survey, site visits and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description.

Unit 5

Fencing and Gates- types, materials and techniques Teaching: Classroom Discussion on Fencing in various materials and Gates (types including swing, sliding and revolving) along with compound walls. Composite roof truss to be discussed in classroom teaching Assignment: Hand drawn scaled drawings on various types of on Fencing in various materials and Gates (types including swing, sliding and revolving) along with compound walls. Notes and sketches on the topic based on site visits and report on the same including observations in form of photographs and text description.

Unit 6

Principles of RCC Reinforced concrete construction process with mixing of concrete, transportation, form-work, laying of reinforcement, casting, deshuttering and curing. RCC frame structure for smaller spans Teaching: Classroom Discussion on RCC framed construction including load transfer, construction process, mixing of concrete, transportation, form-work, laying of reinforcement, casting, deshuttering and curing, testing of concrete etc. Assignment: Hand drawn scaled drawings on RCC framed structure for smaller span up to plinth level. RCC framed structure can be studied for a small scale G+ 2 residential structure. The same structure can be studied further for construction of frame for superstructure in the semester IV.

Minutes Of Meeting for Climatology subject

Day and Date: 4th June, 2016, Saturday Time: 10:30 am

Venue: Dr DY Patil School of Architecture, Lohegaon, Pune.

At: Faculty room ground floor.

Meeting Agenda: Review of the subject for 2015-16 and Approach towards the subject.

The meeting was summoned by Board of Studies, SPPU.

The following main points were discussed in the meeting:

A. Review of the subject which includes (Teaching and student output) for academic

year 2015-2016

B. Types of Projects/Assignments/Site visit.

C. Suggestion for Improvement.

D. New Experiment/Approach towards the subject.

E. Integrating Climatology in Design.

A. Review of the subject which includes (Teaching and student output) for

academic year 2015-2016-

1. Prof. Dhwani Iyar from Allana College discussed about the difficulties faced by her

students in completion the syllabus.

• Students faced difficulties to analysing the building according to the climatic zone.

• Students didn’t understand the context of this subject in absence of Architectural

Design.

• Student enthusiasm wean down at the end of the term.

2. Ar. Mahesh Bangad from BNCA discussed about the gap in understanding by the

students between Building Design and Climatic strategies in his college.

• It was found that 50% students understood the Climatic Strategies and the remaining

could not comprehend much and at the end students lost interest in this subject.

3. Prof. Abhijit De from Trinity College disagreed to the above.

• He felt that there is a Gap between Design and Climatology.

• He suggested not to give journal work to students.

• He added that even Renowned Architects worldwide have failed to implement

Climate Implementation in Design and so expecting this from first year students its bit

too much.

• Students should not be allowed to imitate renowned Architects design.

• Analysis of a particular climatically designed building should be made and must be

implemented in one of the modern buildings in order to understand this subject.

4. Discussion was made on the availability of books and suggestion of new book in market.

For that purpose formation of a common group on social media for this subject was

suggested.

• It was found that there are less reference books for this subject and the books

available are found to be difficult for the first year students to understanding.

• Some Teachers were of the opinion that weightage of the subject is a misguiding

factor.

B. Types of Projects/Assignments/Site visits-

1. Prof Shubhada Chapekar from DYPSOA, Lohegaon suggested that the journal and

assignments together should form the total sessional work, so that the theory covered in

journal will become a database for students in the higher classes.

2. Prof. Dhwani Iyar

• Study of Dwelling of tribes was been made.

• Contemporary Architecture and its Analysis was been made.

• Study of Specific climatic zone (Hot & Dry most prominent) was made and Analysed.

Example. For Jaisalmer, analysis of Sun path was done.

• Use of Mahoney Tables were suggested to help student a lot from student understand

Bioclimatic Chart.

• Local Site visit – PCNDTA buildings.

3. Prof. Mahesh Bangad from BNCA discussed

Bhuj Case study was made for Microclimate Analysis for the structure documented.

• Asked students to take cuttings of newspaper weather report.

• It was helpful to integrate Climatology with ITA subject from first year.

• Local Site visit – Amanora Park.

4. Prof. Aprajita Kaushik from DYPSOA, Lohegaon

Basic climatic strategies were made to study first so that its implementation in design

is easier.

Journal and assignments like fenestration and chajja projection were taken. But the

difficulty was faced in understanding level of the students.

5. Ar. Madhura Merukar from Indira College discussed

80 different regions were given to students to study.

• Study of light and Ventilation in their own house was been made.

6. Ar. Ketaki Joshi from NDMVP, Nashik and Ar. Neha Bhatia, DYPCOA discussed

Design strategies as per 6 climatic zones.

Integration of Climatology into Architectural Design as well.

7. Ar. Mrunalini Anekar from PVP College discussed

Integration of ADG and climatology was done successfully, the house design done in

ADG was used as an example to understand climate responsive design. Solution by

students included negative and positive design keeping climate in view.

It was discussed that the output of the assignment namely numbers/ size of sheets,

should be the domain of the individual college and their respected teachers.

C. Suggestion for Improvement.-

• Bioclimatic Chart together with Mahoney Table would help student a lot from student

point of view.

• 3D model application of sun path be shown to students for better understand.

• Small exercises in the form of assignment can also be used as data base for them in

the senior year. Suggestion like single window design (size, projection etc) on single

isolated wall.

• Then According to the Syllabus, the concept of heat exchange must only be introduced

to students rather than going in depth. It may be collaborated with Building Services-

third year.

• Only Awareness be made for Green Building Rating systems.

D. New Experiment/Approach towards the subject-

• Examples and site visited should be from actual/ local projects, to reduce the practice

of reprography submission of book case study by students.

• Guidelines for Building design be made according to Climate.

• Calculations be solved in class with students.

• Teacher could decide on the weightage for Assignments.

• Topic like “Heat exchange in building” could be collaborated with Building Services in

third year.

E. Integrating Climatology in Design-

• Prof. Shubhada Chapekar suggested that the first year climatology study should be a

data base for the next year Architectural Design.

• The first year Climatology teacher should update the second year design teacher about

the data base.

• Freedom of expression to be given as per individual college and their design term.

As Directed by Board of Studies in Architecture, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Subject Co-

ordination meeting for URBAN STUDIES (2015 Pattern) was organized at Marathwada Mitr

mandal's College of Architecture, Deccan, Pune (MMCA) on Monday 26th Feb. 2018 at 12:00

noon. Faculty members from various colleges affiliated to SPPU were present and participated

in the meeting. The meeting hosted by Subject Chairperson Dr. Parag g. Narkhede (BKPS), BoS

Member Dr. Abhijeet Natu (BKPS), and Dr. Supriya Nene (Principal, MMCA).

Sessions was started at 12:10 pm, all dignitaries and attendees welcomed by Dr. Supriya Nene

(Principal, MMCA). Introduction and purpose of the meeting addressed by Dr. Abhijeet Natu

(BKPS), including title of the subject, topic to be implemented and overall framework of the

subject. Meeting agenda were discussed by Subject Chairperson Dr. Parag g. Narkhede (BKPS)

including the course objective, course outline, teaching plan, conduction of the studio.

Following are the important aspects were discussed in meeting and proposed for the

implementation from the academic year 2018-19.

URBAN STUDIES I

1. For Sessional Work (Journal)

Hand written journal should be encouraged.

Class notes shall be included in journal

2. Assignments (Portfolio)

Subdivision of land (4 Hectares Approx) (20 marks)

Study of housing Typology : Group work – Case Study (20 Marks)

Tutorials (10 Marks)

3. Dr. Abhijeet Natu (BKPS) made clear about certain things like, Sessional work designed as

per the application of Town Planning principals, and subjects which have a master’s degree

those papers were removed.

4. Handbook of urban studies, by Ronan Paddison shall be made available in library.

6. Assignments should included designing of a road junction, essay writhing on urban topics,

holistic development strategies, smart city development strategies suggested by Ar. Akash

Mahale (APCOA)

7. For subdivision of land assignments the more focused should be on the study of effect of

subdivision of land and the surrounding land use, because live site gives context,

hypothetical site should be avoided, suggested by Dr. Parag g. Narkhede (BKPS).

8. There should be parity between practice and theory such as formulation of Development

plan should be taught, Housing assignments should be amalgamate with Fourth Year Design

Subject, there should be more credit to this subject, suggested by Prof. Sandhya Nivsarkar

(Minerva COA).

9. Students need to be introduced with History of Town Planning and various acts associated

with Town Planning, Do not encouraged copied work, suggested by Ar. Arpita Bhat

(NDMVP)

10. Students to be introduced with development plan, urban design guidelines and

development control rules and regulations, housing schemes with sustainable strategies,

suggested by Dr. Shubhda kamlapurkar (BNCA).

11. Question bank should be prepared for tutorials, Suggested by Ar. Madhuri Zite (BNCA)

12. In the Introduction of theories of Town Planning social and economic aspects to be

introduced, only basic models/process should be explained.

13. Discussion held on Assignment no. 2 i.e. Housing, the following are the standards was set up

for the same.

Group of students not more than 5

The typology included Low rise, High rise, SRA, industrial, disaster policy

Each institute focuses on a particular type of housing; Fourth Yr. design Subject may

be co-related.

Conducting the assignments is open ended.

Depending upon the nature of the assignments, submission work should be

expected.

URBAN STUDIES II

14. Assignment no. 1 Reading of Urban fabric: Study of existing town and town planning

proposals for municipal council level town-(group work) (20 marks)

Class may be dividing into groups to study the different aspects of land / area. OR

Class may divide to study all aspects of a particular ward/ area/ section.

These above options may decide by colleges.

Following are the assumptions like -

Area / size / population of town

Census town, capillary towns / A,B,C Class municipal Town

Assignments should be in the form of Portfolio/Report/ Data/ Maps /Drawings.

Policy level guidelines could be expected from students, to summarize the set of

guidelines.

15. Assignment no. 2 Identification of urban issues related to various aspects such as

environment, society, traffic and transportation, hills and hill slopes, riverfront

development, urban heritage conservation through primary surveys( group work in a group

of 5 students) (20 marks)

16. Tutorials may be in the form of Notes/MCQ because there will be no question paper for the

particular subject. It shouldn’t in the form of assignments, to avoid the repetitions. Tutorials

in form of IN SEM examinations shall be encouraged.

17. Details of urban economics / finance not required social formulation; community habits

reflected into building design, social economy and family system shall be elaborated.
