SYLLABUS GRADE 7 MID-TERM Session 2019-20 Subject names Syllabus ENGLISH Session: 2019-2020 1. Listening skills: To be able to listen to any verbal communication with a reasonable degree of understanding. 2. Speaking Skills: Students will be tested on their ability to speak clearly, using grammatically complete and correct sentences. Following will be emphasized: Extempore Speech 3. Reading Skills: Students should be able to read unfamiliar texts with understanding the meaning of lexical items and answer questions based on it. The marks obtained from Reading, Listening and Speaking assessment will be added with internal assessment. 4. Writing Skills: The students should be able to express themselves by writing a continuous piece of creative writing. The following will be emphasized: Narrative writing Descriptive writing Article News report Summary 5. Grammar: Students will be expected to identify or change the given words/sentences and rewrite them after correcting. Following will be emphasized: Language Development, which involves grammar and extensive vocabulary learning: The following will be emphasized: determiners, prepositions, auxiliary verbs, modals, linking verbs, the complement, adverbs and adverbials, conjunctions. Punctuation: To be able to punctuate unpunctuated lines by putting appropriate punctuation marks capitalization, full stop, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, colon, semicolon, quotation marks and apostrophes. Figurative Language: Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Idioms, Hyperbole, Understatement, Alliteration, Irony. Spellings: Students will be expected to write the correct spellings of the frequently used and misspelt words.
