Classes are conducted, to the extent possible without sacrificing direction and focus, in a participatory and interactive manner. Discussion points and guide questions are provided that highlight of important substantive parts of the topics. Students are expected to come to class prepared to recite and discuss them. Lectures are provided only as supplement and to introduce materials not covered by readings and to synthesize and process them. Methodology used in this course is descriptive and critical evaluative approaches. Course Objectives: A. General: To provide the students citizenship education through the study of Philippine politics, government and constitution; To study the dynamics of the Philippines as a democratic and republican government To help students to understand and appreciate the 1987 Constitution as the fundamental charter of the land; and To enable the students formulate their own perspectives and responses to the pressing issues of the times. B. Specific Objectives: Cognitive: a. Describe the key concepts, issues, theory and methodology of Political Science. b. Ascertain the vital concepts of the Philippine Constitution.

Course Description:The course is an introduction to the key political and governmental institutions of the

Course Objectives:A. General:

To enable the students formulate their own perspectives and responses to the pressing issues of the times.

B. Specific Objectives:

Cognitive:a. Describe the key concepts, issues, theory and methodology of Political Science.b. Ascertain the vital concepts of the Philippine Constitution.

Affective:a. Appropriately and analytically employ these concepts in explaining and understanding political developments, events and issues.b. Apprise the constitutional rights of every Filipino and the responsibilities it entails.

Psychomotor:a. Develop critical thinking via understanding the key methodologies of Political Science.b. Demonstrate the values of critical and active citizenship in a democratic system.

Course Requirements:I. Major Exams (50%)

A total of four (4) major exams shall be taken during the semester;

The coverage of the exams shall be announced in due time; PECIT “Blue Book” shall be used for the exams;

II. Graded Recitation (20%) Each student shall be called at least twice for the duration of the term; Graded recitations are generally held every regular meeting; The student may refer to the assigned readings when reciting; This will evaluate student’s comprehension and ability to articulate ideas;

III. Quizzes (20%) There shall be four to six quizzes with topics and schedule pre-announced; During quizzes, students are not allowed to consult notes; Yellow Pads are generally used for quizzes;

IV. Classroom Attendance and Values (10%) Classroom attendance is taken when the instructor arrives in the classroom; Values Formation and Character points is discretionary of the instructor;

Classroom Rules and Regulations Students are only allowed to have: six (6) absences for MWF – 1.0 hour class and

four (4) absences for TTH 1.5 hour class; Students are marked tardy or late when they arrived the classroom after the

attendance-checking is made; Arrival of students during the attendance-checking is not yet considered tardy or

late; Thus, if students incur more than of what is allowed in absences and tardiness will

be dropped from the list; There are no make-up quizzes missed either due to absence or tardiness; A Special Exam will only be given if a student is hospitalized, and be required to

furnish a medical certificate and a doctor’s prescription attached to a formal letter of excuse;

Mobile phones and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited during exams; Students are expected to know and comply with these classroom rules and

regulations;

Textbook Used: Textbook on the Philippine Constitution by Hector S. De Leon, 2008 edition. The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines.
