A lot of hard work, a spoonful of widsom, a pinch of enthusiasm and there you have it - SymFiesta’15!

With great vigour and vitality, the students of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA worked towards the success of an initiative in 2014. That initiative, the brain-child of our director, Dr. C J Rawandale, has grown a year older and how!

India comprises of a wide array of cultures and traditions, and an even wid-er group of people following them. Influenced by the diverse colours of our nation, SymFiesta’15 set out on a voyage to witness the melange. With the theme of Panoramic India, the fun and amusement was doubled.

In the very second year of its inception, SymFiesta’15 promised to be bigger and better. With around 50 colleges participating in over 34 events, the prom-ise was proudly fulfilled.

The events ranged from literary and cultural to legal and fine arts. Flagship events of this celebration were CONFERO - The Parliamentary Debate, Sym-Vogue - Glitz ‘n’ Glamour (The Fashion Show), KTS Tulsi Mock Trial, ANUKRITI (Group Dance), Colossal Gaming and ARMAGEDDON - Battle of the Bands.

Along with the fascinating and thought provoking events, the three nights of SymFiesta’15 were full of surprises for the spectators. The merriment began with performers like Kraken, The Uncertainty Principle and Project Shivam Nswar. On the second day, DJ Mash and Progressive Brothers kept the audi-ence asking for more. Sonu Kakkar and DJ NYK marked the end of this carnival.

A comprehensive report of each of the events will take you on a virtual tour to SymFiesta’15.

EVENT REPORTS The event took place on the first day of SymFiesta’15, i.e. February 20, 2015. With an untiring support from all the sponsors, the event was successful and a memorable one.

One of the significant functions of a lawyer is to advise the people who seek assistance in knowing the legal im-plications of their actions. The lawyer is looked upon to facilitate decision making in certain critical legal matters. This function of the lawyer, of influencing and facilitating decisions, is called counseling. Client counseling, thus, is a session of a client with his or her counsel wherein the client goes to the counsel with a problem that he is facing. The counsel is required to advise the client in the simplest of forms without getting much into the technicalities of the law such that it earns relief to client as soon as pos-sible.

The first important task was of getting problems. SymFies-ta is grateful to the senior advocates of Delhi High Court who drafted the problems, keeping the task confidential. There were a total of 9 problems ready to be bifurcated in 3 rounds in which the event was to be conducted.

Registrations! Slowly and steadily registrations also start-ed to come. Initially there was a cap of 16 which got filled quickly. Thereafter, a waiting list of applications was also made. Owing to this the cap had to be increased to 24 teams. Getting registrations for this event was like selling hot cakes. There were teams registering from all over the

country! GNLU, CNLU, ILS Pune, NUALS Kochi, UPES, CLC, VIPS, JGLS, Amity, Punjab University and many more!

After days of hard work put in, finally the moment arrived. Everything was set. Judges, Clients, Counsels, Courtrooms were all ready. Soon the prelims started. There were some amazing sessions in the court rooms, with the students of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA posing as cruel clients!

The trademark of this competition was the way the clients made the counsels cry! The judges gave an amazing feed-back to the counsels and advice which would be valued in their entire professional career.

It was as if by the wink of eye that we were watching the final rounds. It was Amity Law School, Delhi (IP) and ILS Pune who made into the Finals. We are grateful to our dear seniors Ms. Eva Bishwal, Ms. Harimohana N. and Mr. Aakash Gakhar who were the three musketeers of the fi-nals, representing a firm in losses who seek the advice of the counsels in royalty issues. The fight among the clients was a cherry on the cake which was a challenge for the two teams.

It was Amity Law School, Delhi in the finals which took the cup. ILS Pune was declared Runners up. The teams’

feedback was amazing. Everyone seemed to be satisfied with the results and gave compliments as to how well the event was organized.

The event was a great success and in the end every par-ticipant had something or the other to carry with him for life, worthy learning, valuable experience, memories and relations being the most precious!

EVENT/

JUDGEMENT WRITING

The fest began rather resumed from right where it stopped last year. The challenges for the organizers were the same in nature but only tougher in kind. The challenge was to race against themselves from one year ago; the challenge was to evaluate themselves to find out whether they have

actually evolved in a year, whether they can be more than what they had been. The answer to this question was for them to speculate on and for the participants from all over the country to know.

13

A Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA Presentation©

12

A Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA Presentation©

Judgement writing is an event which tests a contestant at so many levels. Spontaneity, swift researching skills, com-mand over language, ability to rise above all the tenets of personal beliefs and to put on the thinking cap or rather the wig of a judge, absolute concentration and impregnable focus. What the work of a judge calls for is humungous; Judge-ment writing is a two and a half hour simulator ride of that. SymFiesta’14 Judgement Writing event saw a huge success when more than forty students, including students from SLS NOIDA, occupied the library for a two and half hour of silent battle of intellect and perseverance. This time the challenge was to keep up that legacy.

Registrations started off slow but quickly gained pace. The event saw 35 registrations and finally, 28 participations, from colleges including the likes of CNLU, GNLU, UPES, JGLS, ILS, AMITY, PU, ITM etc.

The participants were made to apply their minds to the best of their ability. Miss Ranu Purohit, a student of ILS Pune, emerged as the deserved winner while Mr. Dhruv Chawla from Amity Law School Delhi made the road for Miss Ranu as tough as possible before he finally settled for the second place.

This was the second edition of K.T.S. Tulsi Mock Trial Com-petition and the First Edition had already established a high bar. With the support of Mr. K.T.S. Tulsi, SymFiesta’15 took on this venture with the hopes of making it bigger and better this time.

The idea is to create a simulator that puts the participants in the shoes of a trial advocate where they examine the witnesses and frame arguments to present their case. This year’s Mock Trial Problem was a case of murder and attempt to murder where one accused and one witness had to be examined.

When Prof. Ahmed Ali handed over the first draft of the problem, the organising team was mesmerised by the manner in which such a simple idea of facts was put forth as an interesting story. (Even the judges and participants remarked on how well drafted and balanced the problem was.) The problem boosted the excitement of the organisers and it was released the very next day!

Next up was registrations. Slow in the beginning, but picked up pace after a week or so. And once they started pouring in, every new registration just added on to the anxiety and excitement. There were teams registering from all over the country! GNLU, CNLU, ILS Pune, UPES, Punjab University and more!

After weeks of preparation, the day arrived. Folders were made, court rooms were set and witnesses were ready. After preliminary round draw of lots, the event kick started. Every court room had a marvel to watch. SymFiesta’15 is thankful all the judges for taking out time from their busy schedule and marvellously conducting and judging the trial. Each of them took great interest in every session and also gave their valued comments and feedback.

The awe inspiring teams of ILS, Pune and SLS, NOIDA made it to the finals. After one and a half hours of a heated session, ILS Pune came out as the winner. The most satisfying part of the event was when the winning team gave its compliments and said that it was a very well organised and managed event.

At the end of the event, everybody had learnt so many new things. But best of all, the participants connected with each other, the organisers personally got their feedbacks and discussed in detail how their experience was.

Organising the 2nd K.T.S. Tulsi Mock Trial Competition was a huge learning experience.

RESULTS

It is rightly said about the legal business that you don’t get what you deserve here, rather what you negotiate for. Being a law school, the aim was to instil the important skill of negotiation in the students and help them improve upon it by seizing this chance. The problem for negotiation was based on Personal laws and as interesting as it sounds, the problems were appreciated by all for their level of conciseness, creativity and the level of difficulty embodied in the simple language used.

Next in the line of tasks was registration. Keeping in mind, the remarkable turnover seen last year, the Cap was in-creased from 16 teams to 24. And though slow in the beginning, it picked up pace and soon after the number of par-ticipants was a desired one. There were teams registering from all over the country! GNLU, CNLU, ILS Pune, Punjab University, JGLS and more! Everyone wanted to be a part of SymFiesta’15. And Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA was ready to give them a wonderful experience.

After weeks of preparation, the day arrived. Everything was set. Folders were made, court rooms were set and partici-pants were finally there. After preliminary round draw of lots, the event kick started. Every court room had a marvel to watch. SymFiesta’15 is thankful to all the judges for taking out time from their busy schedule and splendidly conducting and judging the competition. Each of them took great interest in every session and also gave their valued comments and feedback.

The first day of the event had the prelims and the quarters scheduled and the second day witnessed the semis and the final rounds. In the final round, both the finalists were from Amity Law School, Delhi and perhaps this made the finals even more out of the ordinary to watch. The team comprising of Garima and Charitarth was declared as the winner.

All said and done, this journey was truly an enriching one. It was good experience to interact with all the participants, who in turn were very happy and impressed by the way the event was successfully completed. SymFiesta is looking forward to take the next edition of A.K. Singh Negotiation Competition a step higher!

COLOSSAL GAMING

The Quiz Society in association with Walnut Knowledge Solutions organised its first business quiz on February 21, 2015 with some stiff competition from other institutes who had organised a quiz on the same day. A total amount of Rs. 30,000/- was up for grabs thanks to the associ-ate sponsors, Mylaw.net and iLawGlobal, who were kind enough to chip in that kind of money.

Since there was a tough competition from IIT-Delhi and another institute from Dwarka, finding participants was a tough task. Participants were confused as to which quiz they shall attend as the prize money was lucrative at all the 3 locations.

‎Requests started pouring in from corporate houses to postpone the quiz but were refused as it was a big gamble.

Finally the day of the quiz arrived and 44 participants showed up for the grand event which brought much joy to the faces of the organisers as a lot of questions were being raised on their capabilities.

It was known that if there is a good turnout the show will

be a grand success as Mr. Sachin Ravi, an SLS - Pune alum-nus, was invited to host the quiz. Mr. Ravi was an avid quizzer himself during his days at Law School and fol-lowing his passion he left his job at icici bank to startup his own company, Walnut Knowledge Solutions with his batchmate Mr. Raghav Chakravarthy.

Mr. Ravi was an instant hit when he entered the room with Coke Studio playing in the background. He introduced himself and started off with the prelims wherein ‎3 cor-porate and 3 college teams were supposed to qualify for the finals. After a tight battle for about 2 hours, the win-ners were declared who won by 5 points. The top 3 teams turned out to be:

1. Shreshth Shah (Amity) & Mukund Marodia (St. Ste-phens)

2. MS Kiran (FMS Delhi) and MVR Murty (Nestle)

3. Gursheel Singh & Ajay Parasuraman (FMS Delhi)

The Gaming Event involved three TV’s and three gaming consoles (One Xbox 360 and Two PS3’s), all running a copy of FIFA 15. The event spread through all the three days. It basically comprised of a FIFA 15 knockout competition. The winner got INR 6000 and runners up got INR 3000.

DAY 1 (FEBRUARY 20, 2015)Till 12 noon on this day, all the TVs and consoles were set up and the Gaming Room was prepared in one of the classrooms. Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA believes that fashion is a statement, not a style. It is not to be worn casually and it fits all people of all ages. Fashion is an art of personal self-expression, not an excuse to be pretty, popular and charismatic.

A law school student must definitely be pro at win-ning all the legal battles but this is not it. When it comes to being a student of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA, being pro at decking up to stand out of the crowd is an easy task. To judge the same in others, SYMVOGUE Glitz ‘n’ Glamour was organised in Sym-Fiesta’15. SymVogue took place with great pomp and show. The fact that the same event was successfully conducted in Symfiesta 2014 posed a big challenge to the organisers. However with great vigour and hard work at the same time, all the challenges were even-tually won.

The registrations for this hugely crowd puller event came in a massive number. It became difficult for the organisers to choose and to take a decision. However due to the pre decided cap, Symbiosis Law School NOIDA had to reject few applications. After all the hardships faced, the event turned out to be a true sensation.

NIGHTS

Music and partying are one of the few things that one can never resist. SymFiesta’15 - Humari Na-

zar se India had both of these. All three eve-nings of the fest had performances by

various bands and DJs.

With KRAKEN, THE UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE and PROJECT SHIVAMNSWAR

on board, SymFiesta’15 gave an awesome evening to the people. With a lot of dance and

head-banging, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA found itself drenched in enthusiasm.

No less fun was offered on Day 2. VH1 Supersonic had DJ MASH and THE PROGRESSIVE BROTHERS who made everyone hit the dance floor. From students to teachers, nobody could control

themselves from getting crazy.

And as it is said, “All is well that ends well”, SymFiesta’15 was concluded perfectly with performances brought

by MTV Bollyland. When you have DJ NYK with you, you cannot resist partying hard. It was fol-

lowed by some Bollywood party numbers by the sensational SONU KAKKAR.
