Why Higher KA-Rated Breakers? ● Current MBwD panel rating is 50 KAIC. However, its short-circuit

value defaults to the lowest-rated circuit breaker installed in the panel. Current sub-feed breaker offerings are rated at 22 KAIC and 25 KAIC.

● The new offerings include breakers rated for 35 and 50 KAIC.

● In order for the MBwD to achieve a rating of 35 or 50 KAIC, ALL sub-feed breakers must be 35 or 50 KAIC. The panel’s overall KA is limited to the lowest-rated breaker.

Additional Items Required ● Each “Q” number includes the breaker, aux switch and lugs. Labor is

NOT included.

● Separately priced breaker kits (one per breaker) and adapters (one for every two breakers) also available.

● The breaker kits and adapters are required

● Kits: PDT3B-KIT for T3; PDT5B-KIT for T5

● Adapters: PD3PADAPT3 for T3; PD3PADAPT5 for T5


Breaker Characteristics ● 80% or 100% rated breakers

● Same physical size as standard breakers, be it T3 or T5

● Thermo-magnetic trip type for 35 KAIC, electro-magnetic (LSI) for 50KAIC

● Not adjustable for 35 KAIC however, 50 KAIC has an adjustable trip down to a minimum of 40% of the breaker size. For Example: For a 400A breaker, (400A *.4) = 160A.

● 125A, 150A, 175A, 200A,225A, 300A, and 400A are the available amperages for 35 KAIC.

● Only 300A and 400A amperages are available for 50KAIC.


Additional Notes About 100% 400A Breakers

● Please be aware that the maximum cable size allowed in the MBwD is 500kCMIL.

● This means that the standard lugs for the T-5 breaker will not support cables for 400A at 100%.

● Thus, each 100% 400A breaker quote will come with parallel cable terminals, that will allow the use of up to 2 x 250kCMIL cables to support the 400A load.

● Provisions are required on the other end to support parallel cables.

● T3 or T5 adapters are required to mount breakers into the PX 250/500 distribution panel.

● Each adapter supports two breakers.

● These kits DO NOT contain adapters. WHY NOT? ● Each adapter supports two breakers. Each kit supports only one breaker.
